Summary: Think about possibilities...
Review: This film is all about metaphysics..."as I think, so it shall be." If you are an open-minded individual and love to think, viewing this film is time well-spent. It may open windows, or even Doors...

Summary: Better than Sex!!!!
Review: Okay, so maybe not... but at least I got your attention. I see that a couple recent reviewers thought this movie took itself too seriously and one actually recommended buying a second, backup copy of Titanic. These reviewers are obviously not too hip or informed when it comes to movies that dare to tread beyond mainstream. THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!! And if Titanic IS your favorite movie of all-time, I highly recommend you avoid this film. It's not for you. It's for those folks who have the intellectual capacity to understand art--and humor--on a more subtle (if not sometimes schizophrenic) level. This movie is one of the funniest, scariest, craziest movies I've seen in a long time. If you saw David Lynch's _Eraserhead_ and were able to appreciate the art and humor in that film, then I guarantee you will appreciate Pi. Woe unto those unfortunate cretins who can't read between the lines, step out of their box, or expand the circle of their own intellect. And joy to those that can. In joy, I say, ENjoy...

Summary: Overly ambitious, but interesting
Review: Pi reminded me of Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, minus Eco's seven years of research and spellbinding detective-story style. Overall, the film's pretty good if you're interested in numerological mysticism, but is at times self-important and overreaching. Gives you interesting stuff to think about, though.

Summary: It's very simple....
Review: You'll either hate this film or love it, there's no in between. If you don't keep in mind while watching this that it is a work of fiction and that it was made by a film-maker and not a mathematician, then don't bother watching this. It's fiction. It's an independent film. "Pi" is wonderfully directed and the muscial score that accompanies the film shoots in a dose of andrenalin (that without, this film could be very dull). This is bizarre. It's artsy. Some just won't get it. Heck, I didn't get "Titanic".

Summary: Pi R Sucked - That's the formula for this film.
Review: Patterns in chaos? Sure, this film stinks every Pi r2 time I think about it. Some films shock you, some make you sick from their sacarine sweet plot. Others insult your intellect and while others leave you genuinly uplifted. This film took 85 minutes of my life, I saw it 3.14 days ago and I am still kicking myself every 133.51375 minutes. Save your money and buy a backup copy of Titanic.

It is safe to say, "there will not be a Pi-2".

Summary: Really Really FUNNY!!
Review: I roared with laughter at this thing. Anyone who knows a little bit about mathematics knows that Math is just a metaphor for reality. It is not reality! The main character was portrayed as some sort of tormented genius who was supposedly a legitimate mathematician. Nope. This dope was just another garden variety monomaniac. The movie takes itself WAY WAY too seriously.

A fine line between genius and madness? Baloney. This guy was just a screwball. There's lots of them around.

Summary: Last great movie of the millenium
Review: This review board is not equally representive of the viewing audience. Mostly the fans of this movie are likely to make the effort to read more about it or reveiw it. Anybody who doesnt like Movie are likely too blinded by their own intelectualism to see past the math loophole, or surreal hallucinations. This story is not so much about math, and more about the battles fought inside the mind, and how what your looking for is usually hidden in plain veiw. Sublime camera work captures the twists and turn of the human psyche as well as any film I can recall. it also has elements of greed, religios agendas, and natural world phenomena that slowly become entertwined as the film progresses.

Summary: Intellectual and superb, but not for everyone
Review: It seems that most here agree this was a great movie. I wonder if those who hated it, simply did so because they could not understand it. One such person mentioned the spirals. This is a reference to chaos theory. What these reviewers are overlooking or ignoring is a recurring theme: Mathematics is the language of nature and the universe. The antagonists seem so extreme because we're given a biased viewpoint, namely that of a paranoid genius who is borderline insane.

The movie also utilizes the classic interplay between science (especially mathematics) and religion, including attempts to use one to justify the other. Similarly, it embodies the war between those who favor pure research and those who believe research is only as good as its applications and consequently want to exploit such uses.

As a side note, the fact that the number is 216 digits is irrelevant. In mathematics, there are certain numbers (for example pi, e, and i) that occur very quite frequently in nature and help to explain the universe. Max, being a number theorist, stumbles across another such number that happens to be 216 digits long. It could just as easily have been 3 digits long or 3,000,000,000,000,000 digits long. 216 is an arbitrary choice in relation to the story.

If you see this movie, be prepared to think. If you don't, you won't understand it and probably will not like it. This is what I expect to be the case with the handful of reviewers who gave it one star.

Summary: pi through my eyes
Review: PI is the best movie i've ever seen. No other film has dared to dive into the human mind the way PI has. In an era cluttered with 200 million-dollar budget, overly-hyped movies, PI holds its ground in a way that too many consumers overlook. It dares to awaken thoughts that are basic human nature i.e. 'who are we, where are we headed in this life?'. PI re-connected me with those thoughts, painfully, just as Max's thoughts killed him in a way. PI reinforced the painful fact of life that genius is rarely understood by the masses, and when it is, it is exploited. five stars. i hope more more films that bring this point to attention get the same reception.

Summary: Fashion over substance
Review: This is what happens when film students make a movie about math, science, and computers without really understanding the first thing about math, science, and computers.
