Rating: Summary: Very powerfull film, and unfortunately true to life Review: Ed Norton does a fabulous job in this movie. It is even safe to say that he does almost too good of a job. Only because he portrays his character with such emotion that he actually gets you believing that hate is okay. However, you do get to see that thru all the hatred that people feel it doesnt do a damn bit of good but cause more problems. This movie is very true to life, and should be watched by everyone.
Rating: Summary: The most underrated film of 98, if not the century Review: This is one of the most thought provoking movie I've seen in a long time. Everybody involved in this film deserves credit. Unlike other great films in the past this film deals with racism in the present state. It deals with racism amongst the younger generation. In a day when most of the energy is focused on the past, people forget that some of that energy should be focused on our youth. Even though this film has been widely acclaimed, it still has not receive the attention it deserves. As hard as I try I just cannot come up with the words to do this movie justice. So drop whatever you are doing and find a copy of this movie, and watch it.
Rating: Summary: POWERFUL & INTENSE! A MUST SEE! Review: "American History X" is one of those films that starts off strong and keeps the viewer on edge until its shattering conclusion. Do not rent this movie if you are in the mood for comedy or romance, because you won't find it here. This movie is as serious as a heart attack and will make you think once the final scene grabs you and never lets you go. Everyone should watch this film and see just how true to life this movie really is! A winner!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Incredible Review: I encourage all who read this review to see American History X. Truly, this movie demonstrates, with stunning images, just how terrible and twisted racism is. Peace is true beauty. We are all brothers
Rating: Summary: Most Powerful written movie since Schindler's List Review: I simply loved this movie. I watch tons of videos every week. I haven't been so moved by a movie in a long time. This truely shows what might happen to somebody in that postion. I come from a racist family and I know that it is a taught behavior. Although many people in my family can not accept how I am, I live the way I do because I don't believe that it is right to hate a person because of the color of their skin. There were parts of this movie that drove me to tears and i rejoiced at the changes that Derek made in his life. Aerican History X was so powerful and breathtaking that I have recommened it to as many people as I can. I will own this movie when I can get a copy if it. Edward Norton and Edward Furlong are great actors and they work well with each other. A five star movie through and through!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Best movie ever, everyone should see it. Review: This movie showed everything necessary for people to understand the veiws of Neo-Nazi skinheads. It also shows that black people can be as bad as white people. In the end it teaches people the hatred and racism aren't worhth what you have to put into them. And that people should stop hating each other. Everyone should watch this and take a lesson about hating people because they are a different color. And how that isn't a way to live. People should make note at this movies ending, and think of how more reprucussions would lead to even more death.
Rating: Summary: This movie is a winner Review: This is the best movie I've seen in the last 10 years. The best. I hated Norton in Rounders. He didn't fit the part. Here in AMerican History X he fits in perfect. I consider him now my favorite actor off all time. Screw Robert DeNiro. Hahahaha.
Rating: Summary: A very powerful, moving film Review: In short, this film contains the best acting talent (by far) of the last year, the best cinematography/camerawork of the last year, the best mix of colour and black and white in film since Schindler's List and Rumblefish and truly, this film was a great film in so many ways. The one point that critics, and indeed audiences have trouble with in the film is the redemption of the main character: to go from a bigoted white skinhead racist to a an upstanding person in modern society who cares for his family: particularly his sick mother and impressionable younger brother. I too found the redemption maybe not totally convincing, but this minor quibble aside, I would love for more studios to make films like this, films that move you to a different level, films that say something to you, films that have such an intelligent script and dialogue. It's just a pity because this film deserves a much wider audience than that which it will get. Edward Norton 's performance in this film has proved that he is head and shoulders over every other actor of his generation, a true successor to Brando, De Niro, Pacino, Day Lewis...I am not sure that any other actor could have been so convincing in the role. As for Tony Kaye, his prior work in directing spectacular adverts for multinational companies have translated fantastically well to the big screen. If his final cut of this film was even better than the one we have seen, then he a genius. I only hope he gets as good as script and such fantastic perfomances from his actors for his next film which I very much now look forward after seeing American History X. There are only a handful of films I have seen in the 90's where I have thought on exiting the cinema "I've just seen something really special, something that I have not seen before": the most 90's films of the 90's, they being Pulp Fiction, the Shawshank Redemption, Seven and now American History X. If you know anyone who truly understands and loves movies or indeed anyone that wants to see a truly great film, tell them to watch this film. I cannot truly recommend it highly enough. Thank God we still have filmmakers and studios that are willing to forge new areas in film and revelutionize the industry. Hopefully now Kaye can go on and be the true successor to Kubrick...Please go and see this film, it is truly life affirming and an example of revolutionary use of the medium.
Rating: Summary: Powerful, Eye opening, Emotional ride Review: "Wow", is what I told myself at the end of this film. I was not expecting the untamed, full disclousre of life as a white supremisist. This film takes us to a level of reality about society's problems rarely reached by film makers. The actors make this film come a live with emotion and passion. I've never hated a character as much as Derek at the begining and cared so much about him at the end. Truly a great performance. I'll be expecting a lot from him in the future, hope he can live up to the acting challange he opened up with this film. Hats off to director Tony Kaye, I don't know weather he walked a fine line with this film or threw all the political corretness out the window. The story is heart wrenching and the plot developed very intrestingly. I was so wrapped up in the plot I lost track of time. Supporting actors had no choice but to justly frame Edward Nortons shinning performance. Definate must see!
Rating: Summary: powerful, shockingly mesmerizing.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This film lands one hell of a punch to the head. Its very rare for a film about racism to show the pros & cons of that particular mindset.Usually all the white racists are incoherent boobs & all the black "racists" are intelligent, righteous victims, who have the right to "loot, burn, rob & kill because everything is owed to them anyway.Y'know fight the power,do the right thing etc. Nortons character while filled w/rage & hatred was intelligent & that is def more frightening than neanderthals like seths character. stacy keachs character is based on tom metzger & his W.hite A.ryan R.esistance. while mindless thugs are used for headbashing(like hitlers SA) its the educated racists that he is nurturing for political & civil postions that make this film a dark reality for america.....see this film....twice! & after its grim ending decide if vinyard was right or wrong!
