Rating: Summary: This was a great movie Review: I saw this movie tonight, Id heard it was good and I thought it was more than that. It got the message across perfectly. I thought It would just be about Neo-Nazis and things like that, but What I liked about it was that Both the Neo Nazis and The gangsters Were the bad guys, and good guys. It showed the hate from both sides. Im 14 and for the past year Ive been really into unity (which Ive been told is impossable) and this movie was awsome, because It showed how pointless hate is. This movie is a must see.

Its rediculess. The reason I give this Movie 2 stars is that it has good cinimatography and soud and you might like it but see it for your self first.
Rating: Summary: The most thought-provoking film of 1998 (maybe ever). Review: I knew it was violent and I paced the DVD aisle of my friendly local video rental for a good two minutes before I decided to give this movie a chance, but the fact that I did has impacted my life. I'm not over-stating emotion. I've never said that about a movie before. I'm only fifteen. I didn't live through the Civil Rights Movement. I've only seen scratchy video clips of the "I Have a Dream" speech. We've got some pretty ugly people at the school I go to, but I've always seen racism as a dead topic--everybody knows it's bad, the people who still think it's good are stupid hicks who'll never get anywhere anyway, why make it an issue? American History X was a real slap in the brain. The actors, both Edward Norton and Edward Furlong, really jump out and drag you forcefully by the throat into this portrait of how anger and frustration can lead even the most intelligent, most free-thinking people to hate. I think the best thing that American History X has going for it is that it makes you care about what happens to its characters, Neo-Nazi brothers Derek (played by Norton) and Danny (played by Furlong). A lesser script might have automatically painted them as the "bad guys" and channeled viewer hate in their direction so that, by the end of the film, the only idea stirred up was one most children are taught from the time they can first comprehend human communication--racists are bad people. The actors and screenwriters of American History X let you into the minds and pasts of these two brothers. You get to see why they do what they do. You cringe at the actions of Derek, but (and this is a big compliment to Edward Norton) you can see the emotions and, even if for only a moment, some threads of logical thought and credibility behind his philosophies. You care about him as he goes through prison (a consequence of his hate), and you root for him as he begins to question the violent principles he's been existing on. And you feel his pain when his jail time is up and he returns to a broken family--his little brother flirting with the same violent path that led him to prison. I can't say enough for this movie. Even the cinematography is striking (note the panoramic view of the beach shadowed by red clouds at the beginning, the flashbacks in black and white). The "family dinner" scene is a hell of a lot scarier than anything found in Scream 2 or I Know What You Did Last Summer or any of those other wastes of time and thought cells so agressively marketed to my generation. I saw American History X a week ago, and there hasn't been a day since that some theme or expression or circumstance inspired by it hasn't found its way into my mind. It almost makes me want to be an English teacher for a while so that I can make it required viewing for a growing class of angry, alienated American teens. Please, I'm begging you to see it.
Rating: Summary: MUST SEE FOR ALL Review: I have two sons that are bi-racial and just saw the movie and loved it.They have grown up not really understanding why some white people,or people of color, believe the way they do.After seeing this movie my oldest son who is 27 said,"now I see why some people act like they do". I believe every one should see this movie. There is a lot to be learned. It is a very moving movie!
Rating: Summary: 10 out of 10 No Doubt Review: Edward Norton delivers his best in this amazing film. Serious thought-provoking film---what makes a nazist make a 180 degree turnover on what he used to believe? The truth sometimes for someone is ridiculous. Use your true eyes to find out what "real" truth beneath it. Contaminating characters ,plot, performances.
Rating: Summary: The Truth is Frightening Review: I passed this film up on the new release wall at Blockbuster until there was no longer anything else I hadn't seen. Once I saw it, I was amazed at how wonderful it was! Ed Norton delivers a virtually flawless performance, and I am shocked he wasn't given the academy award. Whoever wrote this one really knows how to make the viewer care about the characters. In addition to being very entertaining, it delivers such a powerful message. This is a must see for any film buff, and I also recommend that parents show it to young adults who have lost their way in a hateful and challenging world. Take it from a harsh critic - American History X is one of the best movies I have ever seen!
Rating: Summary: A BRILLIANT HIGH SKY MOVIE. Review: I WAS SO MOVED BY NORTON'S PERFORMANCE THAT I ALMOST THINK ABOUT THIS MOVIE EVERY DAY. IT WAS CAPTIVATING .WHEN I SET OUT TO FIND AND REVIEW THE SCRIPT, I ACHEIVED IT. NORTON REALLY HAS A MAGICAL TALENT FOR HOS ACTING CAREER. I ALSO PRAISE D'ANGELO'S PERFORMANCE. SHE MADE THE TOP. IT MAKES YOU WONDER HOW SANE THIS WORLD REALLY IS AND HOW MUCH "HATE" BULL**** IS FLOATING AROUND INTO THE WORLD.
Rating: Summary: Definately makes you THINK.... Review: This was a great movie! It made you think about all of the racism and violence that is out there in this world. It shows you the hatred that some people feel for others just for the way they look, dress, or act. BUT, on the other hand, it shows you how people can change for the good, and, sadly, how still others don't give them a chance to show it. Truly a great movie, and for all the people who are racist and commit racist violence toward others (like in the movie)...these are the exact people who SHOULD watch this movie. Maybe they would get a wake up call on their life....
Rating: Summary: One of the best recent movies... Review: I rented this movie a while back and was spellbound. The message of the movie stong and the actores are great. Make sure you watch this one!
Rating: Summary: WOW! Talk about driving a message home! Review: This movie was a forceful, dramtic, and graphic depiction of the racism going on in our country right now. I could barely sit through the fist half because of the brutality and hate spewing forth from it and I kept telling my 19 year old son that there is another side. We are white and what I didn't know was that this is my son's favorite movie. He has watched it six times now. He says it helps him immensely to not get caught up in the racism prevalent in his school and everywhere he goes. We cried together and shared a renewed conviction of how wrong gangs and racism are. I am insulted by Amazon's review stating that this is a conservative view. I have been a conservative all my life and have never been a racist. I have always abhored the hatred and inhumanity of racism as most conservatives do. It is this kind of hatred that paves the way for complete government control which is a liberal philosophy. Anyway, I believe this movie would benefit anyone who watches it. We all can relate to having views and beliefs that were depicted in the movie and what it leads to.
