Rating: Summary: It's a strong impact movie for anyone who watches it. Review: It does not matter if you are in the mood to watch a movie or not. The realism will attract you from the beginning and will force you to finish and find the outcome as much controversy.
Rating: Summary: A very thrilling and informative box office hit Review: I thought American History X was a strong and impressive movie. Some of the things just really stuck with me. The graphic scenes made me sit back and say "wow," did that stuff really happen. When Derek killed the black guy on the street, I think my heart stopped. That's how strong this movie was. Obviously, the jail time Derek served helped him in the end. He cleaned up his act, and no longer wanted to kill people. I don't know why his brother got shot at the end. He did nothing wrong. The family was messed up from the beginning. The kids were brought up in a very violent world. They went on to produce their own violence. The attack on the supermarket was uncalled for. The things they did were ridiculous. The way the acts were presented in the movie made it even more nerve-racking. The dinner scene at the table, showed that Derek had something seriously wrong in his mind at the time. He didn't care who he was disrespecting or anything. I liked the movie overall; it showed some things that could really happen. The characters were well played and I think the movie was presented in the right manner.
Rating: Summary: I felt the movie was inspirational. Review: I have to say that my initial response to the movie was amazement and motivation. The events in the movie were all suspenseful and unexpected. The movie was not the type of movie were the viewer knows what is going to happen next, but rather one of suspense and excitement. Watching Derek grow throughout the movie was inspirational. To see the character that he portrayed in the beginning of the movie and watch him grow into the person he became in the end of the movie was amazing. Also watching Daniel change into a better person was significant. Derek changed from a hateful person who was prejudice and arrogant, into an intelligent, responsible human being. Not only did he improve his own personal life and values but he used his power and influence to change the values which he had portrayed to his younger brother. Throughout Derek's growth, he was not only able to improve his own life but the life of his entire family. In the beginning of the movie, the entire family was filled with hate including the values of the father. The events that took place, mostly the events that happened to Derek during his time in prison, enabled the family to in fact become a family again. They were able to forget the terrible things that had happened to all of them in the past and move on towards a united family. The movie was inspirational and moving. It taught me that people can change and that despite what terrible things people do, they all deserve a second chance to show their true colors. Derek turned around his life because of the events that took place throughout his time in the gang, and the lessons that these events taught him. The lessons that he learned not only changed him, but changed the family as a whole.
Rating: Summary: American History X is an excellant movie. Review: American History X is an emotional movie that portrays the reality of life as a young, skinhead Neo-Nazi while still holding a dramatic story-line. It expresses the means by which experienced skinheads prey on impressionable kids, boys and girls, and how they use propaganda to reel these lost kids into their brainwashing cult. This movie is a descriptive, blunt, realistic view of Neo-Nazism, their thoughts, thier actions, and gives the inside track on how the cult gets organized and how it is run. I was personally able to feel a connection with the younger brother, Danny, as the impressionable younger brother of a skinhead. I have older siblings and I look up to them. Danny's older brother, Derek, is his idol. He praises Derek's power and influence over people and day by day Danny is becoming more and more like his brother. He would do anything Derek would tell him to do, say anything he told him to say. The movie in its entirety is an intense movie that exposes a realistic skinhead lifestyle. It reveals the extent of influence that older siblings have and it shows the damage this Neo-Nazi lifestyle can do to the rest of the family who do not think as they do.
Rating: Summary: This is a great movie Review: I watched American History X last week during my English class. I think it is the most powerful movie I have ever seen. It creatively depicts the lives of two brothers who deal with their own racism. Although it is not a true story, the movie opens the veiwers eyes to racism and hate crimes. It shows how people can be so naive and closed minded to the effects of racism in our society. Over all the movie was great. The best movie I have watched in a long time. It has a certian realism to it that really makes you think about what you're watching. It is a movie worth renting.
Rating: Summary: a thought provoking, yet informative movie Review: After watching american history x, many different thoughts were rushing through my head. I was not sure of waht to expect seeing everyone i talked to told me to prepare myself because it was very powerful, but a really good movie. I thought the movie was extreemyl well written and there are some scenes that i know i will not forget. i know there are many scenes in the movie that are very graphic. it was, but the graphic parts really added to the movie's intensity and made it so much better. For example, the part in the movie when Derek kills the black man eho broke into his car. It was a horrible vision and my teeth hurt every time i think about it. But i have ti say that this part of the movie was just to show how strong Derek's hate towards blacks really was. Another very strong part of the movie was at the dinner table, when Doris's boyfriend was there and they got into a dicussion about Rodney King. The things that derek said were so meaningful to him and it was very scary how much he believed that everyone else besides his "own kind" was evil and stupid. This part had to have been one of the biggest parts of the whole movie. This movie brought forth a very powerful message and really left me thinking. i think it was a very good movie and i strongly recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed the movie, but I wasn't interested in the violence Review: I really enjoyed "American History X" because I thought the movie had a really important message to get across. The message dealt with racism and equality. However, the movie was very violent and bloody. This movie made me understand what some people are going through in their everyday life. I can appreciate this movie because it brought racism to a whole new level.
Rating: Summary: Times may change but people never do Review: I think that this movie showed a great example of how much prejudice and violence exists in our world and how it always will. Although Edward Norton's character (Derek Vineyard) saw the error of his ways, he's still only one person and he cannot change everyone's views. It's revolting that there is so much prejudice and a shame that even when people seemed to have learned their lesson that there are things that were set in motion that could not be stopped such as the death of Derek's younger brother Danny. I hope that the people that saw "American History X" got something out of it and have been influenced to help change the prejudice that they live with everyday.
Rating: Summary: A Lesson Learned Review: Tony Kaye's movie, American History X, deals with the struggle between different racial groups. The main character, Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton), becomes one of the major leaders of a white supremacist organization. Along with his brother and my other men, Derek performs many disgusting and degrading acts of hatred. Derek's hatred towards other races is the reason that he ends up in jail. In prison, Derek learns many valuable lessons. He learns that his racist ideas are foolish. The most striking part about the movie is that Derek wants to teach the lessons that he learns to his little brother, Danny (Edward Furlong). Before Danny's life becomes filled with violent racial ideas, Derek wants to teach him that racism and hating blacks is extremely foolish. If it was not for his African American friend, Derek would have never survived in prison. He realizes that he owes his life to this one black man. Derek wants to save his family from the hatred of racism. He learns the lesson that racism is evil and he hopes he can help his family before it is too late. The movie is touching and taught me a wonderful lesson about loving your neighbors as you love yourself. The movie has a wonderful cast and the story is well written. One of the most interesting part of the movie is the use of color. All the flashbacks are in black and white, suggesting how Derek saw the world - black and white. However, the present day scenes are filled with vivid colors suggesting that Derek now believes everyone is equal and, that the world should not be filled with racial ideas.
Rating: Summary: A POWERFUL MOVIE Review: American History X was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. It had a very powerful impact on me. All the actors gave brilliant performances. Several aspects of the movie were very shocking to me. The characters of Seth and Cameron were very were appalling. The murder scene and the scence before and during the store riot were very disturbing. The movie did have some very positive aspects. For example Sweeney's character was very inspirational. He tried desperately to show Derek and Danny that a better life existed because hate leads nowhere. He never gave up in trying to help them. The friendship that developed between Derek and his black friend is jail was also very inspirational. It was uplifting to see the special freindship develop between them. Seeing this friendship and how Derek's character changed drastically was very encouraging. It makes you realize that there is hope after all that maybe someday we can all get along and overcome prejudice.
