Review: If you think racism isn't alive anymore it just went away think again. I never really thought about racism to much. Then when I was in NJ visiting family I saw this movie. This movie teaches you so much about racism more then any school could ever teach you. All of the actors in the movie were incredible and i really like the movie.

Summary: Classic Hollywood attempt at Shock Cinema.
Review: This is a very dissapointing movie. The theme makes sense, and it's style is basically what it should be, but watching as it plays out is boring and cliche; classic hollywood attempt to make money through shcok tactics. It become very predictable and sappy as the movie goes on. I won't say that neo-nazis have been done to death in movies, because in actuallity they haven't. most film makers seem to shy away from such a subject because of its controversy. i can understand why someone would feel the need to make this movie, but this is one they should have left alone. Edward Norton plays an ex-bonehead neo-nazi. He has just been released from prison to find that his younger brother, played by Edward Furlong, is following the same path he once went down: become a down and out hate monger. Throughout this movie, Nortan tries his best to come to terms with his past and the people he once called friends, all the while trying his best to keep his little bro away from the same crowd. This all sounds nice a good, but as the movie goes on it becomes rather boring. Every character is cliche, and we are offered no real insight to the problem of racism in America today. Although its very easy to believe that nazis are the ultimate evil, as almost every character except Nortan and Furlong are portrayed as, that seems like an easy answer to a difficult question: why do these people hate? I gained nothing from this movie, and i think it could have been done much better. Aside from Ed Nortan's performance, which was spectacular, there is really no need to watch this movie. if you really want a clear, un-biased look at the white power problem in this country, look for one of those HBO documentaries...those are usually pretty good.

If you are racist and think that it is right, this movie will change you! Scenes from this movie will be imprinted in your mind forever. It also shows the touching story of brotherly and family love. This movie will prove you wrong! It is the absolute truth!

Summary: A FIERCE PUNCH IN YOUR GUT
Review: If you believe racism isn't real, DON'T SEE THIS FILM. If you believe there is no such force as Satan, DON'T SEE THIS FILM. If you think America is racially divided because of slavery or the Hollocaust and that since these horrors ended decades ago America should move on with life as if they never existed, DON'T SEE THIS FILM. Why am I advising this? Because American History X will virtually and without a doubt SHATTER any thought you have ever had about why racism is OR is not wrong! You will react to this film, you will be enraged by what you see, you will remember certain scenes for a very long time. Edward Norton is a scary yet powerful actor and because this story is so sadly on target for today's society, it will hurt you to watch it. But do it anyway, no matter how "right" you feel your thinking is. TEACHERS: An excellent film for high school students, provided they are warned about very disturbing violence and language. Parental permission advised.

Review: As if the sheer artistry of director, cinematographer and actor(s) is not enough, the message of the film cannot fail to stir the deepest viewer reaction. Simply the best anti-gang and anti-violence propaganda to be found. Schoolteachers: use this film.

Review: El cruel mundo del odio del que no somos responsables sino herederos, es reflejado en la pantalla con una brillante lección de fotografía e iluminación. La violencia es retratada no sólo en la historia sino en cada fotograma intentando mediante la composición hacer una relectura plástica del conflicto. Un joven escribe un ensayo (género literario cada vez más adecuado para hacer filosofía desde la literatura), lo escribe desde la muerte y el descenso inesperado hacia el infierno no lo realiza el difunto sino el espectador que debe revisar sus principios o la falta de ellos para reconstruir su mirada. El espectador es confrontado con la pregunta labrada por la historia: ¿Tienen algún sentido los odios seculares promovidos y reforzados por generaciones anteriores frágiles e ignorantes? Ojalá pudiéramos hacer una cinta como ésta, sobre la triste realidad colombiana.

Review: This film is a gripping account of racism in modern America. The character of Derek is brilliantly written and developed. Edward Norton was amazing. Furlong also turns a magnificent performance. A definite must see, but not for the faint of heart.

Review: Where as most films portray the racists as being thick scum bullying nice people, this film protrays them as intelligent scum bullying nasty people. It's brutaly honest. Thats what sets it apart from other films that try to make this message. Through the first half of the film it could be seen to be promoting racism but that's not the case, it's just showing the facts and then end message is that racism isn't worth it. Watch this film.

Summary: mesmerizing performance by Norton
Review: Edward Norton is brilliant.What else to you expect from him? Pros: *An extraordinarily brilliant performance by Norton(I say extraordinarily,because the performance was stunning,and not because Edward is usually mediocre,of course).Personally,I think he's the best young actor out there. *Daring and brave direction. Cons: *The movie,as a whole,is so-so. The bottomline:Edward's performance is reason enough to buy it.Unfortunately,he was snubbed at the Oscars.Edward:you don't need an Oscar to be great.Just look at Martin Scorsese.
