Review: Meet Joe Black teaches you what love and death are. What would it be like if DEATH took a holiday? This film shows you what could happen. Death falls in love while sparing a 64-year old CEO his life for a few days before his big 65th birthday. This film is an emotional roller coaster ride which keeps you hanging and wondering what will happen next. It is one of the few films that is like reading a great novel. Critics shunned this film when it was released as they did with Wizard of Oz when it was first released in 1939 and unforunately,Meet Joe Black was a box-office failure and did not get nominated for any academy awards. 1998's best picture was Shakespeare In Love which was good but not best picture worthy to me. If you like films similar to Harold and Maude or Gone With the Wind please dont count out this one. To me this film should have won best picture of 1998 and beaten Titanic with 13 awards. Brad Pit is charming. Claire Forlaine is gorgeous. Anthony Hopkins is outstanding. Rent or buy this film today. You or your friends will not be disappointed.

Summary: Meet Joe Black
Review: I loved it. It made me feel all sort of emotions. You feel sorry for Death, that he cannot stay to love. You feel sorry for the father knowing he has to leave this world. You feel sorry for Susan knowing that this event will happen, loosing both father and love of her life. You enjoy watching the bad get their just deserts. You laugh at the idea that an adult is experiancing life for the first time. There is so much to say that I cannot get it all in but to say "See it yourself, and enjoy". You will also enjoy the music.

Summary: An amazing performance
Review: Being an atheist, I have to admit I had some doubts about this film. However, I found it hypnotic and compelling primarily due to the superb direction and the quite awe-inspiring performance by Brad Pitt who seemed to draw almost untapped depths from, especially, Hopkins and Forlani. For me, Brad Pitt (who I admire anyway) gave one of the finest screen performances I have ever seen.... and I'm somewhat ancient !I was astonished at the almost unbearablely slow pace of some scenes, especially the sequence of Death's first appearance (the duet with Hopkins and the following dinner party) : that pace should have lost audience attention and made the film collapse, quite the contrary : what tension it attained. Brilliant ! I had very little criticism until the end and was so sad that it fell into schmaltz and sentimentality. The ending surely should have been inevitable, either at the departure of Bill and Death across the bridge or, alternatively, Bill should have been discovered dead, perhaps in the house. Unfortunately, due to the ending, my credibility was lost in the last few minutes with the return of the Man in the Coffee Shop. It is the ending which prevented me from giving the film the full five stars !

Summary: AWESOME fantasy from beginning to end!
Review: Some people think this movie is a "chick flick", but the film will appeal to anyone who's ever been in love or fantasized about it and is willing to let their imagination run free. Those who expect the scenes to depict real people and need to have everything add up and make sense may have a problem with the movie. Imagine from Susan's perspective... you get up in the morning, look out at the Husdon, then join your super wealthy father in his helicopter leaving his fabulous country estate and fly off to Manhattan. On the way, your father tells you what to look for in a mate and that passion is the most important part of a relationship. You are told to keep an open mind and look for lightening to strike. Never mind the hot shot boy friend you have that is likely to assume the reigns of his company. Look for someone who'll love you like crazy. On your way to work as a doctor in a hospital you stop for coffee and meet an amazing, energetic, charming, young man who flatters you, asks for your opinion, and really listens to what you have to say. He indicates that he is looking for a girlfriend and that he's a faithful one-girl type of guy. He talks about his future dreams providing for a wife and family and wanting to get them whatever they need. The meeting ends with no exchange of names or telephone numbers, just regret that no follow up meeting is planned. That evening who should show up at Dad's Manhattan Penthouse palace for dinner but the stranger from the coffee shop. You find out he's there to help out your father but know little else about him except that his name is Joe. After dinner while swimming in the luxurious penthouse pool overlooking Central Park, Joe comes by with a spoonful of peanut butter and says he would like to be friends. He indicates that he's been so busy with his work that hasn't taken time for romance. Susan relates completely. Joe seems so innocent, vulnerable, and sensitive. He is articulate, intelligent, and has the awesome good looks of Brad Pitt at his best. Who cares that he's still a stranger? The next day he shows up at the hospital just to "visit" and watch her work. That night at dinner they "click". The following couple days the romance is underway and finally builds to where they have the most beautiful romantic interlude by the Penthouse pool. There is sensitivity, passion, tenderness, and a background score that reflects every emotion. Finally there is an exquisite party for dad's 65th birthday at his country estate. Susan is gorgeous as she arrives by limo dressed in a shimmering silver gray slinky gown that reveals her youthful beauty. She meets Joe who is nothing short of debonaire in his crisp black tuxedo. There's an enormous beautifully decorated cake and fireworks over the Hudson river. Everything is wonderful except that she still doesn't know much about Joe. He has previously revealed little except that he isn't married, has no girlfriend and isn't gay. Then you find that the fantasy may be ending because Joe has to be leaving that night. Again you don't know if you'll ever meet again... How could anyone pass up a story like this? A truly enjoyable film with a beautiful music score by Thomas Newman. This movie has so much to think about it will still be on your mind for weeks after seeing it.

Summary: Nice Ending
Review: First time when I watch this movie in theatre I thought it's good. I like it, I thought. But after second times I watched it I even like it more. Only the accident scene that I thought it was roughtly made ( it not look like man hit by car , like a manikin ) but others is good. Many points to discuss. I love it when third time. Almost crying because I could percieved the love dad give to her daughter. I think you will like it too.

Summary: Uplifting and enlightening
Review: After reviewing all 206 reviews for this movie, I've come to the realization there is still a majority of intelligent people who watch movies, not just teenagers who want action and adventure. I admit that when my sister gave me this movie to watch, I almost gave it back to her without seeing it because I didn't think I would care for it. Was I wrong! I've seen it three times in a week and I can't believe it was three hours long -- it seemed to carry me away and I didn't want it to stop. I must admit that when the accident scene occurred after the coffee shop, I was so shocked that I thought I'd hate the rest of the movie. I almost turned it off, but I'm so grateful I didn't. By the end of the movie I felt such elation and satisfaction. By the second viewing, I wasn't so shocked by the accident so I was better able to absorb the emotions and interactions of the characters. Since I'm a recent widow (December '98) and then my mother died on my birthday in May of '99, I couldn't imagine ever watching another romantic movie. But the absorbing story just draws you in, and by the time Anthony Hopkins says, "it's hard to say good-bye, isn't it?" I knew exactly how Joe must have felt saying good-bye to Susan. This is a feel-good movie by the end and a roller coaster ride of emotions for three hours Don't listen to the dribble of teenagers who would rather watch movies such as Animal House or Something About Mary -- they probably watch all those stupid sit-coms, too.

Summary: Hard to get through but ended in awe
Review: As many of the other reviews stated, I fell asleep the first time I tried to watch this. I was captivated during the coffee shop scene, but by the time the peanut butter came out I was snoozing. I had heard that this was a wonderful movie, so I decided to give it another chance. This time I decided to watch the ending first. I was left in awe, with my mouth hanging open, that is after I got through all the tears. This was the kind of ending that really hits the heart. The ending makes the sometimes slow 3-hour journey worth it.

Summary: Lengthy, but very good movie about love and being loved
Review: I thought this movie was very good and it really touched my heart. It made me laugh and cry. You saw a bond between a father and his 2 daughters, and the bond between life and death. it is a tearjerker at parts because you can just imagine how you would feel if it was you in that position. I think that one thing that made it as good as it was, was the cast- you can't go wrong with Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins and the woman that played Susan. Yes, the it was a long movie but I thought it to be entertaining and touching. I recommend it to those who love dramas and who like to cry at the movies.

Review: This movie was one of the years best.It was very long but it didn't seem long at at!I loved the story and the actors were great! Brad Pitt as usual was awesome! Review: I really enjoyed Brad in this movie. I cried and laughed. Anthony Hopkins was superb! You never think about death coming to get you and fall in love at the same time. And at the end of the movie when the daughter realized what was happening was a crying moment. It is a movie for the whole family to see.
