Summary: The element and etymology of Hope. . .
Review: Although Shawshank Redemption is an outstanding, almost mystical tale of desperation tuned redemption, it is necessary to understand the etymology of Hope as it derived from the original story "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption." As it is, Stephen King published a book "Different Seasons," containing four novellas, each one representing a different season of the year. "The Body" (later made into the film Stand By Me) was subtitled "fall from innocence," where the novella "Apt Pupil" (also made into a movie of the same name) was subtitled "summer of corruption." The important issue here is that "Rita Heyworth," was subtitled "hope springs eternal." This subtitle is one of the most important themes in the book, and it carries well into the movie; however, it is necessary to understand that Hope IS the theme to this story. So, no matter how much is said concerning historical accuracy, larger than life characters, et cetera, it doesn't matter. This is not a work belonging to the school Realism, but of a work that lives on as a way of life, a legend, or a map to the redemptive nature of the soul of man. Nietzche spoke of his torment and torture as spiritually rewarding, molding him into a better man; perhaps his review of "Shawshank" would be similar: the human soul, although fragile, finds redemptive power in Hope.

Summary: Perfection...
Review: It's hard to imagine the film that exceeds this one in quality. If I were a member of the Academy, I would have voted this film Best Picture over "Forrest Gump" in 1994. The story is original, engrossing, and ranges from funny to tragic, as it takes us through the trials and tribulations of an innocent man sent to Shawshank Prison. The acting is superb and the film ends magnificently. A must buy for fans of excellent dramas.

Review: The Shawshank Redemption is an underrated hit that will have you caring and feeling for these men behind bars. This story revolves around a group of men living behind the walls of Shawshank Prison. Andy(Tim Robbins) convicted of murdering his wife and Redd(Morgan Freeman) lead a small group of prisioners in there daily routines. A dishonest warden and a merciless guard give them enough troubles just getting through the day. Through work details and private endevours, these men live for hope. Only hope can get them through Shawshank. In the words of Andy and Redd, "get busy living, or get busy dying." A excellent film, masterfully told, but with some adult themes and language children won't enjoy.

Summary: A Classic
Review: I saw this movie when it was first released and have watched it at least a dozen times since then. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman give amazing performances. I read that Robbins really had to fight to get the role of Andy but when you watch the movie, you can't imagine anyone else playing the role. There is a scene about halfway through the movie where Freeman and Robbins are talking in the prison yard. Once you see that scene you'll see why Robbins got the part. You will know that there is no one else who could have done that scene better. It's my favorite part of the movie. Yeah, the movie itself might be a bit too long, but every scene adds to the film's greatness. The ending is well worth the wait.This movie is based on the novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" from the book Different Seasons by Stephen King. I read the book before I saw the movie and I can tell you that there is nothing left out of the movie. However, if you haven't seen the movie first, watch it and then read the book so that the ending isn't spoiled. But make sure that you eventually read the book as it is among King's best.

Summary: THE MOST ENJOYABLE FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN
Review: This is my favourite film of all time(and I have seen a lot offilms).If I were to draw out my top 100 of all time movies it would beinclude a mix of all styles of cinema over the last fifty or sixtyyears some would be be foreign films and independently made films that many people would not have heard of.The reason why this is my all time favourite is because of the way it makes me feel after I have watched it- completely and utterly uplifted. Having a high regard for Stephen King's stories which are non-horror since viewing Rob Reiner's moving 'Stand by me'(based on a Stephen King short story called 'The body')I rented this film reluctantly since I had seen all the films available to me at that time eg. 'Pulp Fiction' and decided to rent this on the strength of all the rave reviews that it had accumulated. Before the film had even finished I realised that this was the most interesting and compelling film I'd ever seen and the end sequences contain some of the most moving scenes (without cliche)in movie history. Morgan Freeman,like Anthony Hopkins, has enormous screen presence and the film is easily Tim Robbins' finest achievement.I await with baited breath for Frank Darabont's next venture.

Review: This film was the best film I have seen for a long time, it showed prison life from a real persons view. The acting was top class and the ending was amazing, I would recommend it to anyone.

Review: This is undoubtably one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time. It is beautifully written and inspiring. I am not a big movie watcher, yet I never tire of seeing this movie. Each actor is outstanding, and perfect at their part. I will probably still be singing its praises 10 years from now.

Summary: A breathtaking triumph.
Review: I saw this masterpiece for the first time a few months ago. My first reaction was unparalleled elation: I felt like crying of happiness because a true masterpiece had unfolded before my eyes. I couldn't wait to see it again. My second reaction was outrage: I couldn't understand how this outstanding work of art had been ignored by the Oscars. Then I saw that it came out the same year as Forrest Gump, and then I realized that it had been a battle between two titans and the academy voters preferred Gump. Not to take anything from Forrest Gump, but Shawshank is a superior film. One of my favorites. When The Green Mile comes out, I'll be the first in line.

Summary: Wonderful Movie that just gets better each time you watch it
Review: This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. A lot of the reviews from people who didn't like it say it's predictable (what movie today isn't), and that predictability allows you to sit back and enjoy the conversations that Andy and Red and the rest of the characters are having. The Movie is not about somebody trying to get out of prison. It's about a man overcoming the greatest obstacle in his life and never giving up. I think most people who found it boring have an attention span about as long as goldfish. If you didn't like it the first time, I suggest you rent it again and watch it with an open mind and enjoy a true work or Art in Story telling.

Review: William Goldman was talking hogwash when he said the 90s were a poor decade for film. In fact, the endless stream of blockbsters has created a massive increase in the number of screens showing movies and has given filmmakers an unparalleled scope to make films peole will actually see. Home video then enables people to buy and rewatch their favorites. you only need to look to see the sheer number of magnificent films the 90s has produced. For example: LA Confidential, Fargo, the Big Lebowski, Braveheart, Schindler's List, Swingers, The Sixth Sense, Reservoir Dogs, The Usual Suspects, The Truman Show, Gattaca, eXistenZ, The Shawshank Redemption, Quiz Show, The English Patient, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Toy Story, Groundhog Day, Casino, The People vs Larry Flynt, JFK, Saving Private Ryan, Mouse Hunt, Analyse This, Wag the Dog, Once Were Warriors, Life Is Beautiful, Scarfies, Interview With the Vampire, Wild At Heart, The Full Monty, Titanic, There's Something About Mary, Dark City... Big films, small films, seious films, hilarious films, intelligent films and stupid films but all GOOD films. The 90s are clearly, hugely better than the 80s and on a par with the 2 best decades for film, the 40s and 70s.
