Review: I really liked this movie when I saw it. I thought that it was a great movie with great acting. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were both great. I have yet to read Stephen King's version of it but I hope to soon. The movie was so good that you actually thought that the prisons are like that. It was great. I think that everyone should see it. It has a great amount of suspense. Some say that it goes on for too long. Perhaps it does, but it needs to be long for you to get the complete feel of what is going on. See this movie.

Review: I think it's safe to say that I'm not alone here when I say that writer-director Frank Darabont was completely and totally robbed at the Oscars, losing the Screenplay Oscar, as well as being completely neglected for even a nomination for Best Director. What was the Academy thinking? "The Shawshank Redemption" is one the best films ever made by the hand of man in all history, and I just thank god that it finally found it's audience. Better late than not at all. This is a film that should be viewed by EVERYONE! Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to go out right now and rent... no screw renting it. You're at Amazon! Place an order for it, you silly, deprived person! You'll get it in a couple days or so, and when that package comes in the mail, you rip it open and pop that puppy in the VCR and prepare to be mesmerized by a true masterpiece. "The Shawshank Redemption" touched me right down to my soul. It will touch you too. "Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies." I'll be hoping that this review finds you and finds you FAST!

Review: Why am I adding another review to 265 others? Just merely to justify that this - in my opinion - is the greatest film ever made. Until today I still think that The Shawshank Redemption is the most extraordinary, impressive and engrossing film I've ever seen. I watched this film 4 years ago; and only recently when I bought a DVD player I decided to purchase the dvd as my first investment. After seeing it for the second, there was so much more I didn't get in the first time. Throughout the movie, a constant message of hope transcends as its short but intelligent plot unfolds. This film is a rare accomplishment that will uplife and move you.

Review: Way back in 1994 first time director Frank Darabont adapted Stephen Kings short story about a mild mannered bank manager played by Tim Robbins is accused for murdering his wife and her lover there for he is sent to Shawshank prison. There he meets Red played by Morgan freeman were they develop a long time friendship. At first when red first sees him he thinks he is unfit for prison life but Robbins in a great role is clam and reserves his emotions and actions. At the end is when it is most drmatically effective. Frank darabont knows how to adapt works by Stephen King and in 1994 critics complained because it was a long 142 mins but you'll see why it needs this time at the end. Nominated for seven oscars it didn't win one. I think that Darabont is a first rate director and knowsa his stuff i could see Darabont thanking the acadamy someday in the future. The first time i saw it i thought that it was two disturbing but after i watched it enough i found out what i was missing. A great movie. Although this is better than The Green Mile another King adaptation by Darabont which is also great.

Summary: Leonard Maltin doesn't have a clue!
Review: If you read Leonard Maltin's review above quickly dis-regard it. This is one of the greatest movies of all time. I personally don't think a movie that is a little over 2 hours long is at all too long for a Oscar nominated work such as this. I never found a boring moment in this movie and the cast and directing was phenomenal. You won't be dissapointed if you buy this movie.

Review: Brilliant film, absolutely brilliant! I enjoyed it, I really did. The plot about the wife-killing banker is excellent. I really enjoyed this, and 'tis a must for everyone to watch!

Review: Get busy living or get busy dying. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies. These are the 2 lines that sum up the movie and also the attitude towards life. Extremely powerful film and definitely a must-see one too. Unforgettable performances both by Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins. Among my top 3 list. This is the kind of movie which will inspire you time and time again.

Review: I first read the short story by Stephen King titled "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" in his 1982 collection "Different Seasons." I thought it was excellent and that it was very different from most of King's work at the time. In 1995, I went to go see this film in the theatre the week before the Academy Awards. I was amazed. Better than or at least equal to the book, which is rare for a Stephen King story as King fans may know. I believe this is a classic because it has an optimistic, hopeful feel. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freemen turn in memorable performances, though it is the movie as a whole that is truly memorable. I don't think there are too many prison movies that compare to this film. I think it's a must have for anyone who collects movies and even for those who don't.

Review: The Shawshank Redemtion is a compelling and gripping movie.Though many critics are critical of its length it is hardly noticeable for anyone who has the emotional or mental capacity to truly enjoy the value of the film.If you want a film that is made for those who enjoy a deeper meaning in what they watch, not just big men running around shooting things or crazed serial killers that have come back from the dead to exact some revenge, I highly recommend seeing this film.I can honestly say it is the best motion picture my eyes have had the honor to see.
