Summary: Shawshank Redemption
Review: I feel that this was the very best movie of it"s type that I have ever seen and that with the situations as they are today, perhaps some of the things that occured in this great movie, should be applied to our prisons today. It used to be that "Getting away with Murder" was just a phrase, now days in our CIVILIZATION (I use the term loosely) it is "A Fact of Life" as so many of our truly convicted prisoners are doing just that and no one has the Intestinal Fortitude to put an end to it, and it puts the lives of all good, honest, faithful people in danger by not having the Death Penalty applied to them. We have to spend billions upon billions of dollars keeping them "Safe" in the prisons, so that they, one day, will be "let out and be free" to do the same things that they were convicted of. Let;s put some of the tactics from Shawshank Redemption into our "so called JUSTICE SYSTEM"

Review: this is such a good movie. the whole idea is good. and the actors are good too. this is really beautiful. buy this. also get Life. its like this, only its funny. the only part i dont like about this movie are the rape scenes. thats just nasty.

Summary: Beautiful
Review: This is one of the most beautiful and uplifting films I've ever seen. The first part of the movie with the "sisters" was extremely brutal look at prison life that some viewers may not want to stomach. If you choose to keep watching you will be rewarded however. The movie is the story of an innocent man named Andy who was convicted of brutally murdering his wife and her lover. While in prison, he becomes friends with a man named Red who is the only guilty man in Shawshank and knows how to get things (including Rita Hayworth). Andy becomes a valuable man at the prison because of his skills as a banker (perhaps too valuable for his own good). The friendship between Red and Andy is the centerpiece of the movie. Andy keeps his hope in spite of everything that happens and he gives hope to others, especially Red who thinks he has been in prison too long to do anything else. A wonderful film

Summary: Freedom in the Pacific
Review: I have to agree with the movie summary on the jacket that "few movies capture the triumph of the human spiritas memorably as 'The Shawshank Redemption.'" The chemistry of Freeman and Robbins is spot on akin ot the universal friendship of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Dufresne and Red find each other in the institutional hopelessness that is Shawshank State Prison. With an air of dignity, falsely accused banker Dufresne triumphs over repeated physical, sexual and psychological abuse. Red is concerned about his friend Andy's breaking point - and he does have one. When he learns of the confession of the true killer from a fellow inmate (Gill Bellows)and the Warden turns a deaf ear and destroys Dufresne's only chance to vindicate himself, he finally breaks - breaks out, that is. A little discussed event in the movie that proves to be a catalyst is the death of Andy's fellow librarian. The librarian is released and finds he is ill prepared to deal with the outside world, having been institutionalized for the better part of his adult life. He takes his own life in a dramatic conclusion to that subplot. Enclosed between the bookends of hope and triumph of will is the flipside, dark and lonely world of hopelessness and despair. The move does not gloss over the issue by making a clear distinction between the two, rather the movie intertwines the two forces and the tension it produces. While the librarian succumbs to despair, Red is given a helping hand. The story flows and ends in the idyllic vastness of the pacific ocean. Can we award and Oscar after the fact?Miguel Llora

Summary: Not a fan of this type of movie
Review: However, I honestly cant say if Ive seen a better acted movie in my life. Even the secondary and tertiary characters are perfect. The passage of time is crucial to this film and thats why its long, and I dont mind a bit. It is a beautiful movie(saying a lot, since its about a prison)and the ending is amazing. I cannot believe that anyone who loves movies would call this movie 'overlong'. It is just about the best made movie that Ive see. Period.

Summary: One of the most incredible movies I have ever seen
Review: I have seen this movie about 30 times, mainly because TNT shows it every two weeks. Really good movie to buy, cause you will watch it over and over again. this is the plot summary - "Tim Robbins plays a banker named Andy who's sent to Shawshank Prison on a murder charge, but as he gets to know a life-term prisoner named Red (Morgan Freeman), we realize there's reason to believe the banker's crime was justifiable. We also realize that Andy's calm, quiet exterior hides a great reserve of patience and fortitude, and Red comes to admire this mild-mannered man who first struck him as weak and unfit for prison life." Overall I think this is one of the most entertaining movies of all time and has one of the best endings ever recorded on film. A+

Summary: An Emotional Suspense
Review: There aren't enough words in the english language to give this movie the justice it deserves. An absolutely captivating performance by both Robbins and Freeman. A story so simple in concept becomes an epic undescribable in words. No reason as to why this awe-inspiring classic didnt receive the recognition it is so deserving of.

Summary: Great Story, Great Characters -- Great Movie
Review: This is such a well-done movie I don't know where to start. The story is so carefully laid out that every turn first surprises you, then has you saying, "Of course!" The themes of hope, redemption and freedom are so well-explored that I still can't watch the nding without getting choked up. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman are absolutely superb, nowhere more than in the scene where Robbins as Andy Dufresne delivers the line that I really ought to get emblazoned somewhere where I'll see it every day -- "It comes down to a simple choice; you can get busy living, or get busy dying." The cinematography and editing of this film are absolutely terrific, as is the score, the production design, the lighting, and so on. It's as beautiful as film to watch as it is a beautiful story to experience. So I'm disappointed there aren't more extras on the DVD, because I would have liked to learn a bit more about the process of putting it all together. Maybe Darabont figured he had said all he needed to say in the book version of the screenplay, which I highly recommend. But the movie itself is so worth seeing I guess the omission of extras is forgivable.

Summary: Suffering reveals character
Review: Messages of living come through many different mediums - books, poetry, great teachers, films, theatre, song, not to mention the many people, strangers and friends (and the non-human ones) that pass our way in life. This movie is one of those messengers. The message of hope contained in one of the final scenes where Andy says to Red "that I guess it just gets down to one thing. You either get busy living, or get busy dying," is a reminder that no matter what life hands us, we and only we, are the ones that choose to keep growing, or to give up. This is the stuff of great character. It's an empowering message.

Review: What an extraordinary accomplishment this film is. Truly remarkable. Sure, they show it 20 times a month on TBS/TNT, but hell, it's more than worth a buy. Best movie... ever.
