Summary: Memorable Indeed
Review: Who would doubt the necessity of such societies nowadays? But on the other hand, don't forget the crushing force of tradition and authority. And such conflict will stay and persist practically everywhere.

The treatment here is poetic and it brings us right back to our school days, to our schoolmates and our respected teachers and those whom we hated. Yes, life is full of turns and twists and when looking back, the most bitter is now slightly sweet-- it's like a dream. Yes, all actors including the supporting actors are really good... Highly recommended.

Summary: Keeping The Faith
Review: Dead Poet's Society is a compelling tale of being true to your calling. The words Carpe Diem ring true as one must indeed seize the day.

Robin Williams is mildly amusing but extremely dramatic in his role as a prep school poetry professor. He emphasizes to his students to make the most of their opportunities. To speak out and be heard. Unfortunately the school he works for merely wants to prepare their students to get into the best college possibly without any regard to their feelings. The results turn tragic when Neil played by Robert Sean Leonard becomes trapped by his father's wishes to become a doctor as opposed to finding his own voice as an actor.

There is some good character development throughout this movie on the many students. You get a good feel of the pressure that each of them faces especially having to deal with a very unfeeling administration.

Anyway, the movie gives a good message to listen to your hopes and dreams. And that my friends is what life is all about.

Summary: Missing scenes?
Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time, which is why it still has four stars, but I was very disappointed by the DVD. I taped Dead Poets Society off TV several years ago, and that version includes quite a few scenes that weren't in the DVD. Knox's first meeting with Chris, the girl he falls madly in love with, is cut to about half a minute; there's no fork-in-the-left-hand spaghetti dinner, and Mr. Keating's music appreciation class is nowhere to be seen. I'll keep my more complete version, thanks, despite the commercials and tracking issues.

Summary: WOW: A movie I had to watch in school that was GOOD!!!!!!!!!
Review: I'm not really into drama movies, but I had to watch this in English class. Usually during school movies I'm daydreaming away, but this was one movie that really kept my eyes open! I'm not that big of a fan of Robin Williams, but he did a good job in this movie.

This movie DOES have its funny moments: The "phone call from God", haha, what a dumb prank!

Perhaps the most moving part of this movie was toward the end, when Neil killed himself cause his dad was pressuring him to become a doctor when he really wanted to be an actor. The part where everyone discovers that he's dead: I'll be serious, I am NOT very emotional toward movies AT ALL, but that scene almost brought me to tears!!! Yes, I'm a teenage guy, and teenage guys arent supposed to cry from movies, but this one, THATS A DIFFERENT STORY!

I really felt bad for Mr Keating: he really enjoyed teaching his way and showing the kids to be free and be yourself, and he got fired just cause of Neil's suicide!

Whatever kinds of movies you're into, comedy or horror or whatever, SEE THIS MOVIE: YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! ANY movie that has the power to bring tears to an 18-year-old guy whose favorite movies consist of Baseketball and Bio Dome is DEFINITLEY worth seeing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(Thanx Mr McGill!! :)

Summary: Do you remember your favorite teachers?
Review:

My favorite movie is "Dead poets society". This movie, a drama story about true feeling of student and teacher, was made in 1989, and take place was a notable school in the United States.

Mr. John Keating taught students a different method of seeing the world. At first, many students were suspicious, but they liked his teaching. And then the students changed their mind. However, their parents and school were very strict. One day, a student killed himself....

If you are student, what kind of teachers do you like? Do you like smart teachers? Do you like teachers who teach very well? This is very important but maybe many students will like kindhearted teachers, and teachers who understand our mind. I watched the movie a long time ago, and I wanted to meet a teacher like Mr. John Keating. I thought if I will be a teacher, I will be a teacher like Mr. John Keating because he taught students dreams and hope.

I remembered the last scene. While I watched the last sight, I was crying. It was very impressive. If you want to feel emotion, you have to watch this movie because your feeling will become full.

Summary: Wonder and Hope
Review: This was a great movie. The English teacher infused a spirit of joy in the boys, a desire to wonder at the world once more, a longing to seize the day. The subsequent courage of the boys was admirable and thrilling.

My only worry about the movie is the apparent disregard for tradition and discipline. Poetry and romantic thoughts are all good and well, but it must not be insinuated that tradition or order or that sort of thing hinders true joy. Many times binding rules and stifling systems unintentionally keep students down, depressed, and bored, but that is not the nature of tradition. True reverence for history, parents, and all that rot should be a source of wisdom and encouragement, an encouragement toward the life of excitement and exploration.

Having said all that, the movie is good to strike out against the boring sort of authority that doesn't recognize the possibility of excitement in life. But usually authority is not of that nature, and should be honored as such. So have fun honoring authority! Put a tack on the teacher's chair in deference to them. Receive your own phone call from God. Just don't turn innocent joking into joking intended to hurt.

Good movie, although I do have to rant. I'm an 18 year old guy seizing the day, but I want to seize it the right way.

Summary: A great movie for everyone
Review: One of the best movies of the year 1987 was "Death Poets Society" by Peter Weir. This movie combines many different genres: One might laugh because there are parts of a comedy. There are also parts of a romance and you might even cry because of the tragic parts. This movie is special because it shows ideas of the Borque like "Carpe diem" (seize the day) and "Memento mori" (remember that you have to die) in a modern time. Ít moreover teaches people to think for themselves and should become free thinkers. It is timeless because the ides are both old and modern at the same time. But not just a good idea makes a good film, the great actors did a awesome job. I can just recomment this movie to everybody, it might even change your perspective of life.

Summary: Best Movie I've Every Seen
Review: BR> This is the absolute best movie I've ever seen in my entire life! My english teacher showed it to us recently and I was absolutely stunned! This movie's message is really powerful. Take the opportunities you have to live your life to the fullest! (Also, listen to your children when they talk to you...) Robin Williams was amazing! This is his best performance ever! Robert Sean Leonard, Ethan Hawke, and the rest of the cast did not act; they were their characters. They were all very believable.
This movie is not for everyone. If you're a close minded person or a classical thinker, you might not think this movie is the best movie ever made, but to all my fellow romantics and poets, do yourself a favor. Watch this movie. It will change your life...Carpe Diem!

Summary: all's OK but the end
Review: I just want to say that I did not like the end of the story where Todd commits suicide, I thought it quite contrived and manipulative - just for the purpose of make a big tragic teary ending. I was really agast that they guy killed himself, what does it say about his character? What is it that he learned from the beloved English professor? That unless he's got full financial and moral support of his parents, he's not willing to follow his dream? Would it not be more logical if he left the house and got a job at some bar, working as a waiter, while pursuing his acting ambitions? Is that not what thousands of straggling actors-wanna-be did and do? Was that too hard for him? Much easier to just put a bullet through his head?.... unbeleivable... Aside from that, liked the movie very much...
PS: i've read a several reviews on this movie and noone seemed to have a problem with this part... did i miss something? what was the big deal about the father's authoritative and overbearing attitude? just dont understand WHY Todd thought that there was no other way out? WHY?????
