Rating: Summary: Williams Acts Review: Robin Williams takes his 1st stab at a purely dramatic role with fairly positive results. Of course, even as an inspirational English teacher, he can't help but mug a little bit. The plot is mostly be yourself and buck the system cliched liberal propaganda but extremely well acted and intelligent and insightful. Since I'm a bit of a liberal, the film speaks to me.
Rating: Summary: Super!! Echt ganz toll!! Review: Robin Williams takes his 1st stap at a dramtic role with fairly positive results. It's an suggestion to one's inteligence to see these film. More over to see Robin Williams( Mr. Keating) like a doctor in English, when he teaches his class. He doesn't teach normaly. He makes his own thing. I think it is good what he make. This is a film that really does challenge us to live, and move us to seize the moment. The story and the setting of this movie are amazing. I like the atmosphere in the school. It is dark and mysterious like Harry Potter in the castle. The Film have a lot of features. A little bit of romance, action and mystery. Briefly said: very good film

Rating: Summary: Question life. Oppose mass-thinking. Carpe Diem Review: "Live life to the fullest. Leave your mark during the very short term you exist. There's so much to explore, and so much to be. Look at life from all aspects." I'm normally not a Robin Williams fan, but after having seen this movie, I feel almost obliged to rent/buy a few other movies starring him. Williams simply excels in this movie, along with Robert Sean Leonard (Swing Kids (Which, if you never saw it is a MUST-SEE)) and Ethan Hawk (Gattaca (See this one too!)). At a private boy's school, a new english teacher, John Keating (Williams) is introduced. His form of teaching completely opposes everything the high-class school stands for (ripping pages out of books, standing on desks, and developing one's own walk). Naturally, the school's administration is less-than-happy with it, but the students love it. They find out Keating was once part of a secret society: The Dead Poets Society". They quickly form their own, and learn to appreciate the great masters from there. English made from something boring into something great. Between the lines, the viewer is asked to think out of the box. Don't accept what you're being offered; question it. Why would you settle for anything less than you yourself desire? You hold the key. Unlock the world today...
Rating: Summary: An Inspirational Classic Review: DEAD POETS SOCIETY is a cinematic masterpiece that stands the test of time. Robin Williams is superb in his role as a highly creative English teacher, John Keating, at a conservative prep school in the 1950s. From the moment he first began teaching poetry by taking the class out of the room to listen to old photos in the main hall whispering, "Carpe Diem!" to the wildly amusing time in which he instructed his students to rip the entire first section out of their poetry books, Williams shines as one of the most brilliant examples of an inspirational teacher ever to appear in film.
The concept of the DEAD POETS SOCIETY is explained when Professor Keating tells his students about how he had once belonged to this secret group that would meet in the middle of the night in a cave off campus to read poetry with passion... and to find the true passion in life. It's a true joy to see Keating's students become ablaze with fresh enthusiasm for poetry, life and love... even when the price of following one's passion in such a conservative setting can be quite steep.
The setting, script, casting, acting, and directing for DEAD POETS SOCIETY are all exceptionally wonderful... leaving one feeling revitalized and inspired after viewing it. I give this film my highest recommendation!
Rating: Summary: Carpe Diem Review: I have no need to summarize this movie seeing as how most people tend to do that anyway so, therefore, any addition of such would simply be frivilous. However, I am somewhat disappointed to see how people tend to misinterprate this film by proclaiming that the movie's message of Carpe Diem is derailed by the fact that those who apply it end up losing. This could not be further from the truth. In the beginning, when the young men are first introduced to this idea of sucking the marrow out of life it is applied by the students when its results prove to be fun and joyous. The point really driven home by the movie though is to stand up for one's beliefs throughout all of life no matter how hard it may prove. Now, while the character of Neil, does try to do what he feels he must without regard to his father, in the end, he doesn't stand up at all, but simply accepts his father's authority. Some may not like it but his story serves to prove just how important it is to stand one's ground no matter how hard it may be. It's not only his character, but in fact every character in the film that does not fully understand Mr. Keating's message until the very end by finally doing what they feel is right now matter how much the opposing forces deny this basic truth.
I urge everyone to give this movie a chance and to see it for what it really is. It may just change your life.
Rating: Summary: Groundbreaker with big stars, not aging very well Review: This movie was intensely powerful to me when I first saw it in the theaters. I thought carpe diem was a novel thought, and I shared the triumphs and anguish of the young protagonists. But I don't think this once-moving drama has aged particularly well; maybe my own outlook is what has changed, but the rich, high-spirited boys seem less sympathetic to me now, and I find some of the dramatic moments to be absolutely cheesy. There's a little bit of Porky's and a little bit of School Ties in this one. But this will always be remembered as Williams' most acclaimed role, and is still a strong film-just not as strong as it was before it was joined by a large field of copycats (most recently, and perhaps most obviously, Mona Lisa Smile).
Rating: Summary: Very good film Review: We had to watch Dead Poets Society in our Cinema class and it was pretty good film. Robin Williams does a great performance as a teacher who's showing his students about being creative and Original yet a very smart and moving film I must say(I think that's what his role was in part of the film, I haven't seen this in awhile). I thought Dead Poets Society was a pretty good film with good actors, pretty good story and some pretty sad moment(mainly near the end of the film).
Good film...
