Summary: An amazing movie!
Review: Wow, words can not describe how marvelous this film is. I was captivated from beggining to end. This movie quickly became one of my favorite films of all time! Directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman, two men who accept the Blakean view that no bird soars too high if he soars with his own two wings. In a rousing performance, Robin Williams stars as John Keating who in the fall of 1959 arrives at Welton Academy, a private boy's prep school, to teach English. Exemplifying his philosophy of strident individualism, this charismatic and unconventional teacher tells his students to seize the day and make their lives extraordinary. Keating's passion for poetry inspires some of his students to revive a secret club that he led when he was a student at the Academy. They gather in a cave to read poetry aloud and share their creative efforts. Among those who are most deeply influenced by Keating are Robert Sean Leonard as a boy who defies his father's orders and plays Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Ethan Hawke as a reclusive lad who learns to stand up for what he believes in, and Josh Charles as a love-sick student who uses poetry to woo a seemingly unattainable girl away from her football star boyfriend. Keating's ardent belief that words and ideas can change the world turns out to be true when a tragedy rocks the Academy and the conservative play-it-by-the-book administration make him into the scapegoat. His best students now become rebels with a cause. Dead Poets Society celebrates nonconformity and freethinking as an adventure worthy of emulation and as some of us know, that subject isn't one of your usual movie theme these days. The tale's dramatic finale will send you through an emotional rollercoaster ride. Definately an absolute must see!!!!

Summary: Carpe Diem
Review: This is by far Williams brilliant cinematic best. A gifted comedian found something within himself to shine in this endearing role. How many others felt like getting up on a table at the end of the film quoting "oh captain, my captain"? Great support cast aswell.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: ..."If a body catch a body coming through the rye"...
After Robin Williams couldn't get the movie rights to J.D. Salinger's classic "The Cather in the Rye," Williams took the story of Holden Caulfied to a new level. Williams' character is supposed to be a grown up version of Holden who is an English teacher and, coincendentally, is was the one class he never failed. The movie follows Williams as he deals with children that remind him of himself at that age, trying to help them from commit the some wrongs he did.

Review: Before you go using the word stupid repeatedly, you might want to check your own spelling, grammar, and diction....You obviously are not the sharpest tool in the shed, sweetie....Grow up and wise up!

This film is excellent. Anyone with a fair amount of intelligence(and a vocabulary beyond that of a first-grader)would probably agree.

Summary: Peter Weir Smile
Review: After watching "Mona Lisa smile" a couple of weeks ago, I decided to rent "Dead poets" to erase the bad impression Julia Roberts' movie left on my mind. "Dead poets" is one of the most sensitive and gripping movies in recent years.

Robin Williams is the new literature teacher in a most conservative and old-fashioned prep-school in the 50s. His unorthodox methods of teaching bring most of his students close to him, while the school board worries a bit more each day. In his classes, professor Keating makes the young boys not only understand and enjoy poetry, but also to understand how to make life worthwile, in society and as individuals (carpe diem).

I think there really is no central characters in the movie, since the exceptionally written script and subtle but eloquent directing by Peter Weir give life to many people, professor, students, fathers, deans, etc, each one with believable dialogues and motivations.

Seen now, 15 years after its original release date, somethings might seem stereotyped, even cheesy, but maybe this is just a "big picture" of a part of the american white high/middle-class society at the end of the fifties (I don't know, I wasn't there). Nonetheless, "Dead poets" will certainly always be emotive and touching, even to the least sensible person.

"Dead poets society" is one of those films that won't be forgotten easily, and in fact many years after I first watched it, I remembered certain specific lines and dialogues.

Grade 8.9/10

Summary: Weir --- a wonderful talent
Review: Peter Weir knows how to make a truly beautiful film -- this film's appeal is almost as simple as that.

Dead Poets Society tells the story of John Keating (Robin Williams), an English teacher at a private school in 1950s New England who encourages his students to seize the day --- carpe diem. I never did appreciate Williams much as a comic actor, but in his straight roles I have found him to be an exceptional actor, and Dead Poets is certainly among his finest. Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard are also outstanding as two of the vulnerable young students he inspires.

Weir films in his usual, mesmerizing way that seems to bring out the beauty in everything. The Delaware locations are the ideal backdrop for his characteristic juxtapositioning of human constraints and the childlike innocence of nature.

This is a film that really does challenge us to live, and move us to seize the moment. I can overlook the occasional brief lapse into sentimentality that seeps through into an otherwise convincing, inspiring and utterly unforgettable celebration of life.

Summary: Um this movie is the most made up, lame excuse for a movie
Review: ok the plot: a group of kids sneak out of their boarding school and read poetry. Now what realism is this. The kids risk the future of their lives, and risk getting caught and thrown out of school for what? To read useless items of peotry? What idiot kids what do this? My point exactly. NOONE. Its not to get food, or to try to steal money to get out of the school, its to read poetry. That is by far the most retarded plot ever made. I admit, some parts where funny, but the plot is ridilusly stupid, and so far-fetched, that watching makes you think how stupid the characters are. My advice to you, do not rent, by, or plain watch this film ever. Watch it if you wish to be bored out of your mind. If you want to talk to me about this movie, insant messege me on yahoo messenger at the name: ujio_last_samurai

Summary: Captivating
Review: Usually in school teachers show us videos that only they like. I thought this movie was going to be no exception. But, during the three days that we watched it, I could not keep my eyes off the tv screen. Robin Williams does a great job in this movie. Aside from being funny, it is very refreshing to see a serious side of him, and this movie really shows it. The plot and the setting of this movie were amazing. I really like the whole school atmosphere. This movie is not all serious. There were some moments in the movie that made me and others laugh. For example, "the phone call from god" to have girls at the academy was very clever. I would recommend this movie to anybody, especially teenagers. I believe they can really learn from this movie, about discipline and maybe life.

Summary: This One is On My Top Ten List!
Review: WOW! This movie is one of the best movies in my time. My English teacher, Mr.Gordon, had us watch this movie to understand what theme is. There are many themes such as love, friendship, seizing the day, courage, bravery, and some of them you will have to find out by watching the movie. There are quite a few dramatic events that happen throughout the movie. Make sure to have a couple tissues in the end, as there is some sadness to this movie. Thanks so much to Mr. gordon for showing this movie to our class!

Summary: Dull
Review: Letme begin by saying that I do like this movie. Everytime it's on TV I find myself watching it- Robin Williams parading about like the wacko he is. And the setting is beautiful. But other than that, this film is horribly drenched in cliches (just as Mona Lisa Smile). Let's do a movie about the importance of self-expression. Ok, let's set it in the 1950's at a time that no one can disagree with. Lets have Robin teach the obvious- to "sieze the day"- whoa that's deep. Then lets have an overbearing dad & overbearing headmaster with absolutely no subtlety to their characters dominate the lives of these young kids. And you know what? Robin Williams is the hero because he teaches them to stand on desks. "To gain perspective" was the point, but it was too forced. And also, lets quote every famous line to every famous poem we can think of, so that even the dumbest person who's never read a line of poetry can at least know Byron and "O Captain My Captain! (One of Whitman's worst poems I might add). This is the pits, but the scenery is nice to look at & there is some nice shots. The 1st thing people need to realize is that like does not mean good. Titanic won best picture & look how sappy & cheesy it is years later. These films don't hold up.
