Rating: Summary: The Battle of Individual versus Society Review: As a teacher in a boys school, Mr Keating (Robin Williams) encourages his students to express themselves through poetry. They find liberation to varying degrees, and exhibit behavior that sometimes goes beyond accepted borders. Triumph and tragedy follow. The main message I got from the film is that society will punish nonconformity, yet the individual must take the risk in order to grow and find fulfillment. After watching DPS for the first time in 1990, I promised myself to watch it at least once a year for the rest of my life. It's that good. If your goal in life is to please everyone and not cause trouble, by all means don't watch it... or, maybe you should.
Rating: Summary: Keating's society Review: I can't understand how people would not like this film! It is definitely one of those few works of the cinema that can survive the ages as it's themes are timeless (which some may accuse as being overused). The presentation of the different issues and conflicts for each of the charchters in the film is impressive. Brilliant acting and storytelling, a must have on DVD or VHS.
Rating: Summary: DEAD POET SOCIETY Review: This story is that the teacher Mr.Keating comes to Welton. The students obey the teachers or their parents until they heard Mr.Keating.Because the way that he teaches is different from the way that other teacher teach. It doesn't proceed with the way that he teaches as mentioned in text book.I like the way that he teaches.Because that was uniqe and there is no formality. Dead Poet Society the students gradually find their own way .In case of Neil, he wants to be an actor, but his father opposes his dream. He chose suicide.Because he always insists on his father's opinion and not thought to say his thoughts completely.Mr.Nolan blames for what happens on Neil.Because he thinks Mr.Keating makes Neil organize Dead Poet Society.Mr.Nolan wants the students to sign.He feels responsibility with himself and is kicked out of school by their signature. In the end, they stand on the desk to show their feeling and respect and say to him"Oh,captain,my captain!!"As for me that scene was left in the impression most.If all are signing,I may do,too.Because I'm scared of being kicked out of school.I think that it isn't my opinion.I learned to say that it was important to introduce my true opinion from this film.
Rating: Summary: MY REVIEW FOR THIS MOVIE! Review: "DEAD POET SOCIETY" I like this movie, because I was moved by it. Perhaps, this movie tells us that you don't have to obey your parents and try to be honest to yourself and live anything you like!! In this film, all children obey their parents. The school the children go to is very strict. One day a teacher named Mr.Keating came to school. Mr Keating is a free-thinker. Because of his appearence, children's thinking is changing day by day. In this film, my favorite charactor is Mr Keating, because he always smiling and I like his way of thinking. The most impressive scene for me is when Mr.Keating leaves the school and students stand up on their desks and say, "Oh, Chaptain my chaptain" I couldn't control myself and moved into tears. At last, I think this film is worth seeing very much , please rent this film and watch it!!
Rating: Summary: Dead Poets Society Review: Dead Poets Society was very difficult story for me. This story is a conflict of opinion between Neil and his parents. And main situation is a preparatory school. It has a hard and hard rules. It is very formal story. And also, I think this film's contents are very common. It is boring. But I like a teacher, Mr.Keating, beacause he has a unconventional way of thinking. I feel sympathy with him. He always think of importance of freedom and "seize the day".
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Teaching Resource Review: I showed this movie before starting a unit on "The Catcher in the Rye" and the kids loved it. I know of teachers who have shown it before studying the poems that are read in the movie. I'll do that next time. It's a feel-good movie that students really enjoy because it deals with adolescent issues that everyone can identify with. I have to sit in the back of the room so my students don't see me cry! Whether you are a teacher or not, this is a great movie, and one that can be watched over and over again.
Rating: Summary: Tragedy, but it was good! Review: This film is about a preparatory school named Welton. Welton academy is a pretty strict school for upper class family so students have obeyed their parents and teachers. One day, a teacher, played by Robin Williams, come to there, and changes the ways of thinking of his students. Mr.Keating (Robin Williams) wants their students to become free thinkers with the phrase gCarpe Diemh meaning seize the day. In case of one of the students, Neil (Robert Sean Leonard), is discouraged his dream by his parents ecause they really want Neil to be a doctor. But he really wants to be an actor, so decides to audition for a role in a theater play and succeed. That makes Mr. Perry, his father, get angry. Neil hides the fact and tells nothing to his father. At that night, Neil tells his passion for acting but his father neither hears nor tries to understand him. Because of binding from his father, Neil shoots himself in the side of head with a pistol. Mr.Keating is taken the blame for Neilfs suicide, and kicked out from Welton. I like this film very much. The scene that Ifm impressed the most is when Todd and Neil throw away the birthday present from his parents. By that time, I was so annoyed ecause students including Todd do nothing for themselves. They just obey and endure. Throwing away the present must be a trifling resistance against them. Also, I like the ending scene. Students stand upon their desks, and shout go captain my captainh. I think they want to show their feeling of respect and apologize to leaving teacher. Watching the changes in the boys was pretty exciting. I think the theme of this movie is gseize the dayh, just like you heard. Ifm sure that boys in this movie must be unhappy. Neil, he realized what is his dream and tried to make it come true, but was disturbed. Todd, he didnft know how to express his own feeling, but later, he come to be aware of his artistic side. Knox, he found a girl, Chris, who already had a boyfriend and fall in love with her. At last, Knox could go to the theater with Chris so he doesnft seem to be unfortunate. Everything seemed to be getting better in this movie. I thought so as well. But Neil died, and Mr.Keating was expelled from the academy. Could boys who left behave the same way even after they were gone? I think itfs no. Their lives after this film ended would be like their lives before this film started, I suppose. Boys tried hard to change their restricted lives, but couldnft. My heart was down when I saw the tragedy in ending of the film. I couldnft help keeping back my tears. Anyway this film is well made, I think. If you havenft ever watched this film yet, itfs good for you to try it!
Rating: Summary: This film was so good! Review: This film taught me about how to live in my life. I thought the members of Dead Poets Society grew up so much except Neil and Cameron. Neil couldn't tell his father about his passion to act and killed himself. It was the worst way! He had should choosen the different way to show his passion. Because he couldn't play a role if he was dead. Though I feel sympathy for him, I've never admit Cameron! Because he thought only how to save himself. He was also taught what is important in life by Mr.Keating. But, he had escaped only for saving himself. In comparison with them, the rest of members found the way to live. Todd was shy firstly. But, he was encouraged by Neil, Mr.Keating and the members. He had been confident through his life there. At last, he disobeyed Mr.Nolan and showed Mr.Keating his growth and feeling to respect his wonderful teacher. I was impressed by the scene. He who stood his desk up was prideful. Knox showed his love to Chris honestly even if he was hit by her boyfriend. He had never given up his love. I'd like to recommend this film to other people. I was taught "Seize the day" in this film. I enjoyed it and didn't be boring. If the film had a credit titiles in Japanese, I could enjoy it more! Perhaps, this film showed us to determine ourselves by ourselves. It was not to defy something. It was to determine what is the most important in our lives or what should we do from now. The film made me thought of myself. "Dead Poets Society" is good film for us.
Rating: Summary: Small life at the preparatory school. Review: The title of the film is "Dead Poet Society". The story of the U.S.A. This school is strict and there are four traditions, discipline, dedication, honour, and excellence. Main characters are an English teacher Mr.Keating and students in his class. All students have each personality. They found their own way through Mr.Keating's class. They stand on between adult and child. Various problems block their own way. Then they think about them selves and also helping each other. That problems are friendship, a course and love. They grow up through the problems. They influence Mr.Keating. The method of his teaching is freedom. So his class is beside off the point with scool traditions. They made "Dead Poet Society" and in the night, they have a meeting then reading and making poems. It's influenced by Mr.Keating. But the headmaster Mr.Nolan couldn't admit "Dead Poet Society" so they had to stop to have a meeting. And also Mr.Keating must leave this school. When I watched this film, I was excited. I could feel their feelings. So I had been sad and happy together.
