Rating: Summary: ONE MISSISSIPPI, TWO MISSISSIPPI Review: A special movie. Not only entertaining, but intelligent and emotionally satisfying. I must be average because I thought it was heaven where Jodie Foster ended up. Loved the science vs religion thing, and for once I didn't automatically rule out religion as I usually do. But after reading Oxford Mississppi's comment, I think I will. Thanks
Rating: Summary: Best movie EVER Review: This movie really makes you think - about politics, religion, science and ethics.Carl Sagan was a brilliant man and it is a shame he did not see the final result of his work. A real tribute to him that should not be missed by Anyone
Rating: Summary: The worst movie ever to grace a movie screen Review: Contact is awful. I would give it negative five stars if possible. Matthew McConaughey's character is supposed to be a representative of Christianity, and what does he do? He sleeps with Jodie Foster one hour after meeting her. Of course, the person responsible for the destruction of the first ship that was supposed to get Jodie Foster to the source of the noise in the galaxy is portrayed as a religious extremist. The average person would think that this man is connected to Christianity in some way. I hated this movie from start to finish. Was that supposed to be heaven where Jodie Foster found herself after traveling through the worm hole? Or was that supposed to be where all dead people go according to the esteemed director? Whatever it was, this movie makes a mockery of Christianity and further tarnishes religion in the eyes of the world. I pray for those who had any part in the making of this movie that God would reveal Himself to them in a powerful way. Sometimes we aren't meant to understand certain things while we live on earth, and there are some things that we will never be able to discover or find. Heaven is indeed one of those things because it is the kingdom of God and not of mankind.
Rating: Summary: my favorite movie Review: i love this movie - the opening scene is beautiful and really shows just how insignificant humans are, yet at the same time, the movie shows just how precious life is. oh, and just for reference, carl sagan and his wife helped write the script. he *wanted* people to think about the issues between science and faith. yes, science is based on facts, but a lot of it is theory also. read the book, too - it answers a lot of questions/gives a new level of understanding to the movie. (like why didn't they send another person? because in the book it's explained that ellie went through a series of wormholes, and after her visit the aliens closed the "gate" to the wormholes so humanity could develop on its own with this new piece of hope offered.) all in all, a beautiful movie worthy of the tribute to sagan at the end.
Rating: Summary: Great movie, wonderful DVD Review: I enjoyed Contact when I first saw it, but the DVD really makes you appreciate the subtleties you might miss in the theater. The three commentary tracks each give you unique perspectives on the artistry of this film. These days it's a joy to see a movie that uses special effects seemlessly to enhance the story instead of being 90 minutes of mindless eye candy.
Rating: Summary: The best movie of the decade! Review: Contact is not only a movie, it's a masterpiece! It's a movie that really shows how people on Earth would behave if a message from other planet arrived to us. Finally a movie that takes this great human question: "Is there life outside Earth?" seriously!
Rating: Summary: Spiritually Moving and enlightening Review: Wonderful and mind opening and very Zen (from my perspective). I love the driven character of Ellie Arroway. Only Jodi Foster could have pulled off such a character with feeling and believability. The message should be taken to heart about how precious life is . We are a part of something greater. Whatever you concieve it to be. The effects were first rate and the addition of real news anchors helped with the belief of this scenerio. A fitting tribute to the late Dr. Carl Sagan and worthy of many viewings.
Rating: Summary: A perfect Balance Review: A great movie espically on DVD. The balance between past and present make you feel for the character and gives you a greater understanding of how a person can develop themselves over the years. Another thing worth noting is that it is not some wacked out SCI FI movie. No guns no weird stuff. Just people being thier characters. A sense or realism that is not atained by many SCI FI movies. Real conflicts and real issues emcompass this flick and it doesn't alieanate anybyody who isn't into SCI FI. The additional tracks at the end gives you a wow of what we are capable of producing in this day and tells you wow we can do such things to create such memorable movies such as this one. All in all one of the best or maybe the best flick I have ever watched.
Rating: Summary: One hell-of-a-great movie. Review: This was without a doubt one of the most exciting science-fiction movies of the last decade. It tells a gripping story, which is built-up with the right amount of suspense. Although at some points a bit too sentimental, all actors perform wonderfully and the special effects are top-of-the-line. The DVD also features a few great extras such as the-making-of's of some of the special effects sequences.
Rating: Summary: One of the most amazing , spectacular movie ever made ! Review: Finally , Hollywood has made a wonderful , five-stars movie : 'Contact' , a provoking movie that really leads you into deep thought about science , faith and religion. I especially like some of the line in the movie , like "What are we(human) doing here" , "Science is to pursue truth" and "It would be a awful waste of space"(If there is no other life form in universe). Compared to this movie , I am sorry to say , Star Wars is a brain-dead , thoughtless movie which is only for kid.
