Summary: Bound to Please
Review: This movie is a simple, yet a subtle feast for the eyes. I've been watching it since it first came out and have worn out one tape and now have the DVD. Only one warning for you viewers...GET THE UNRATED VERSION!!! The daring and tantalizing bedroom scene is not to be missed. I don't think I've ever viewed a more breathtaking end to a sensual lesbian love scene than in this movie.

Summary: Visually appealing
Review: The exceptional performances by Gershon, Tilly, and Joe Pantolano are not the only reason to like this film. It is beautifully shot and in fact had some of the most interesting cinematography of any film of the year. In fact, what I liked most about the movie wasn't the story or the acting, both of which were excellent. It was the occasionally interesting and unusual camera shot--the drink being poured into a tumbler from so close up you couldn't tell for a moment what it was, and the scene with all the money hanging from clothespins in the apartment, both of which were done with an eye for the poetic and even surrealistic. The director obviously put a lot of thought into shooting some of these scenes, and on a technical note I'd be curious to know what kind of movie-camera lens they were using on that close-up shot of the bottom of the whiskey glass--motion picture camera lenses tend to be wide-angles--and they would need to go to a shorter focus lens for such a shot. (Also, you wouldn't believe a typical large movie camera lens costs. I have been told they can run into the hundred of thousands of dollars). Anyway, overall this was a visually very appealing and well done movie. I hope we see more of them from this director (who, if I remember right, went on to do the movie, Matrix).

Summary: Hidden gem from pre-Matrix Wachowskis
Review: This is a slick, cool, extra-ordinarily directed "noir" thriller with erotic charge equal (or better) than Basic Instinct or Wild Things. Plot in a sentence: two lesbians try to con the mob out of two million bucks. What reads like a "C" grade movie looks like an "A" Hollywood production, and is much better than most Hollywood products. Attention screenwriters! This is how you write a low-budget movie (the whole movie happens inside two flats and a hallway of an apartment building)! Riveting stuff that announced the greater things to come from Wachowski Brothers... Favourite line: "It's all part of the business..."

Summary: True love at first sight
Review: Two "bad" girls fall passionately in love, but their trust for one another is tried against greed and frenzy in this cerebral and highly recommended thriller. One is left with enough doubt about the intent of each character to make the story unpredictable. This, combined with a series of tense circumstances, ensures that suspense is kept up at a comfortably intense level throughout. With a thatrical script - free of car chases and fillers - BOUND borders on five stars.

Summary: Innovative filmmaking behind a new school gangster classic
Review: Bound is a tense thriller which answers the question, "What happens when a mafia mistress has an affair with an ex-con bruiser girl, then the two of them decide to steal the psycho mobster's money?" I have asked myself this question several times, and was glad the Wachowski brothers (Matrix) answered it for me, because I was stumped.
A great ensemble cast dance around each other, trying to second-guess everyone's next move. Joe Pantoliano gives a superb performance as a man at his wit's end. However, this is definately Gina Gershon's and Jennifer Tilly's movie. Each actress shows their character's motivations and reservations.
Creative camera work captures the taunt mood. Matrix fans will recognize characteristic camera angles and scene transistions. Bound is a suspenseful masterpiece. Even Alfred Hitchcock couldn't have filmed this movie better.

Summary: OH, YOU CAN GET A MAN WITH A GUN..........maybe
Review: GINA GERSHON - briefly spectacular even her Jockeys ... and Ms. JENNIFER TILLY? Same thing except in high heels and then some. Yes, it's a somewhat odd couple and stranger bedfellows, longing for the uncomplicated good life and quite prepared to do what they have to do to get there without breaking a nail [well, almost!]. This is a delightful quirky little thriller about these two gals pulling a fast one on 'dumb lug' Joe Pantoliano [also excellent and very underrated]. The brothers Wachowski acquit themselves admirably, and this little caper is well worth having in your collection of greats - big and small. Superb art direction and elegant couture too plus a tattoo or two for good measure....

Summary: Film Noir and Lesbian Make For An Exciting Thriller
Review: Before they braved the cybernetic waters of THE MATRIX, the Wachowski Brothers wrote and directed, a marvelous little undiscovered gem of a film noir thriller about two lesbians double crossing the mob ... and getting away with it BIG TIME! Excellent performances, with a twist of humor, from all involved: Jennifer Tilly, Gina Gershon, and (especially) Joe Pantoliano.

Review: Three words: Oh. My. God. This movie is just incredible. It's not that often that you come across a film that can pull you straight into it, hold you there and leave you breathless at the end, but this one does. Okay, let's start at the beginning. Corky (Gina Gershon) is a lesbian ex-con who has just got out of prison. She moves into an apartment next door to Ceasar (Joe Pantoliano), a money launderer for the mob, and his girlfriend Violet (Jennifer Tilly). Violet, who is perhaps not quite as heterosexual as Ceasar would like her to be, soon embarks on a fiery relationship with Corky. Gershon and Tilly have chemistry to burn; they play the sex scenes in a wonderful tongue-in-cheek manner, going for the 'fun' aspect of it. This is all out of the way fairly quickly. We've established that they're a secret couple, and now the fun begins. Ceasar has $2 million dollars in his apartment which is being picked up the following day. Violet wants out and the money, and to get it she needs Corky's help. They hatch a plan and get a-thinking, but as always something goes wrong. This time? Ceasar is more intelligent than they gave him credit for. Not only is the twisting plot ingenius and witty, but the whole movie is beautifully shot. Recognise Corky's gun? If the ending doesn't leave you with a huge smile on your face, nothing will. And in the end, how could anyone not love a lesbian-themed movie with the song "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)" on the soundtrack?

Review: Now that's what I like about this movie. The women figure out how to outsmart the bad guys. How many movies can you say that about? Fast paced. Tilly just purrs and Gershon has the best smirk in town. Enjoyable all the way around.

Review: ... I give it high marks for suspense, and for very nice plot twists. It's a film that draws you in and keeps you involved from beginning to end. The script, acting, cinematography and direction are all solid, much more so than one would usually expect from a relatively unknown cast and crew.
