Review: Only one deserved hers.I think even Denzel was shocked by the face-slappingly obvious statement made by the Academy via this token gesture (ie. ""Racism?" Hahaha! That's a funny word. But we don't know what it means! Nuh-uh! Not us!"), since I think even he knew that he never slipped out of 1st gear in a role he could have sleepwalked through. So... you're implying that he was better in this than he was in "The Hurricane"? Don't make me laugh. Oh well, slap another zero on the end of his salary. The frustrating thing is, the movie itself isn't that bad. In a bloated genre, Training Day plays out like an above-average episode of NYPD Blue, until the eye-rollingly cheesy ending where the crooked cop gets his comeuppance (a combination of a bad spaghetti-western and a ripoff of the Sonny Corleone death scene), completely undermines any credibility the film desperately tried to establish and proceeds to urinate on the ashes. Ho hum. Next on the "Corruption is Naughty" Hollywood conveyer belt, please.

Review: This movie ranks up there, along with 'seven', 'fight club' and 'the shawhank redemption', as one of the best i have seen in a long time. Denzel washington plays a startling role as the 'bad guy' and plays it extremely well, very deserving of an oscar. The thought of him having a bad guy role intrigued me so much that i saw it in the theater and then bought it the first day it was on sale. Ethan Hawke also gives a strong performance in what i feel was a title character role stolen by the awesome presence of Washington. This dvd spends the most time in my player than any of my other movies. I strongly recomend this movie to any person whether you like cop drama movies or not.

Review: I never, ever expected to see Denzel in this light. He was to die for in this role. It is so not him, it's so shocking. Worth the oscar. I hope he keeps me guessing for a long time.

Review: It has every cliched "gang","bad cop","LA","Rookie caught between his partner and whats right" scene going. One of the worst films Ive ever seen - on a par with trashy alian/monster B movies from the 1970s. Why Denzel was nominated & got an Oscar for this is a mystery.
Why Amazon recomended it for my wish list is another!!!!
I gave it one star because LA has some good restaurants....

Summary: Denzel Washington is a wolf among wolves
Review: What may seem on paper as a run of the mill, crooked cop drama is brought to the screen almost brilliantly thanks to the unbelievably superb performances by Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. Hawke plays idealistic rookie cop Jake Hoyt, assigned to partner with veteran NARC Alonzo Harris (Washington) for his first training day in Los Angeles. As the day goes on, Hoyt watches in awe and horror as he learns an ultimate lesson he'll never forget: sometimes the best cops can go very, very bad. Washington is sincerely frightening in his role as the crooked cop Harris who believes he must do whatever he can to survive. Hawke is nearly as great in his role as well, but while the film does start out as a great character study, it has a more than predictable climax and ending that doesn't suit the rest of the film well. Director Antoine Fuqua, who helmed The Replacement Killers, seems to be finding his directorial niche and moves the film at a nice pace. Washington would receive his first (and more than overdue) Best Actor Academy Award while Hawke received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Scott Glenn, Tom Berenger, Harris Yullin, Cliff Curtis, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Macy Gray, and Peter Greene also have major and supporting roles in the film. All in all, Training Day is a hard hitting, gritty crime drama with superb performances that elevate it above many films of the same genre.

Review: Watch this movie, and you will KNOW why Denzel won the Oscar for Best Actor. I have NEVER seen Denzel like this before. I thought he was so powerful in Glory, but this takes the cake..

Summary: bang! big start, schlock finish....
Review: Very good movie, chilling psychopath detective, Denzel Washington shepherds Ethan Hawke through a "typical" training day in LA, on the young officer's first day in a top narcotics squad. Last 25 min damage the movie quite a bit, lost opportinity for the director to make a real LA epic. worth a watch though! I was hoping for the promised showdown in Macarthur park. What the movie degenerated into was worthy of early 80's network junk.

Review: Are you kidding!! Continuing the trend of showing how out of touch the Academy Awards is with quality cinema these days, they chose to give Denzel an Oscar for this laughable performance. The Academy Awards hasn't made a mistake this big since..well let's see, last year when they snubbed Ellen Burstyn for her exceptional performance in Requiem for a Dream, and gave the Oscar to actress/hack Julia Roberts.
Training Day is a terrible flick, filled with shallow performances, and a lackluster story. It was an arduous task to even sit through the whole movie. If you have any discernible taste at all, you'll avoid this picture like the plague. The only film worse than this last year was "Pearl Harbor". Don't get me started on that one.

Review: This "film" was a painful experience from start to merciful finish. This movie was Copland, Boyz in the Hood, and Colors rolled into one film of far lesser value. If you are looking for a well written and interesting "action/drama" skip this one and try "American Yakuza".
