Rating: Summary: 4 out of 10 Review: What was the point! This is garbage. I am appalled the fact Denzel Washington won academy award for this film. I know there were other movies that he had a role, should have earned him at least two academy awards. I can't even figure out what was the story. I understand, by the perspective, Denzel is the corrupt one here, and Hawke is acting Serpico. Is Serpico good enough only to be shown? Guess not. I hated this film, not because of the story, but because the stupidity the movie represented. I couldn't even believe how too-hyped-up this film was. Denzel is the bad wolf, Hawke becomes the good wolf, the good wolf prevails, and I am lost....somewhere in this rubbish story....I don't know what the hell the movie was trying to say. One part in the film, with the Spanish gangsters, left me all confused and had me .. off that the confrontation lead to nowhere but one stupid, simple fact that Ethan got tipped off about the Russians. I mean, come on! This is a terrible film!
Rating: Summary: Nice Movie for a Rainy Day Review: I will admit that i did enjoy this movie, but I would not watch it again. The acting was great, they couldn't have chosen better actors. The plot was very weak and the movie picked up at a bad place. This movie was about a cop in training, the instructor Denzel Washington (Best Supporting Actor: Glory) takes this rookie and shows him a day on the job. As the day goes on the rookie starts to realize Densel Washington was just a Con with a Badge. Everyone that denzel knows is in fear that densel will put him away for life. Denzel has enough proof to put anyone away. The end is just a big shootout and rebellion agianst Denzel Washingtons authority, the ending was quite different then others because of a unique twist. This movie deserves a three because of it's lack of plot. So to sum it all up Action: 3 Plot: 2 Acting: 5 Setting: 3 1/2 This movie has very strong language, gore, violence and a scene of nudity, ... If you are inside on a drowsy day that is a great time to watch this film.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME MOVIE! 4 3/4 stars Review: I was really surprised at how good this movie was. Itz just a real gritty cop drama with a solid story line, great acting, suspense, and the feel of a gansta movie. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because about the last 20 minutes or so it getz kinda far fetched. Itz still a great ending but itz just that the rest of the movie seemed so real and this just kinda made it feel like a regular action film. But itz such a great movie other wise that it only gets a quarter of a star taken off. BUY THIS MOVIE!
Rating: Summary: It's not what you know... Review: It's what you can prove. My favorite motto from Denzel. In this movie, a curropted cop gets a rookie, and tries to get him mixed in with his problems. These are the main characters. Alanzo Harris:Denzel won his first best actor's award ever(He won best supporting actor in Glory), and I see why, good acting, with using a lot of good metaphors and stuff. He may seem like a good narcotics officer, but his actions will get him killed, unless he can pay off his debts. But before he does that, he needs a pawn in his game. Jake:Ethan Hawke played good in this movie too as a rookie cop. He gets his chance at being a narcotics officer, thanks to Alanzo. He has to show what he can prove in 24 hours, but a lot of bumps are up the road, and it prooves he's scared to find out the shocking truth. The movie got off to a great start, and had very good twists, but when it rolled towards the end, it started to fall apart, and I was a pretty dissapointed how the movie ended, but Denzel stayed true to his acting roots all throughout the movie. If you like to see Denzel at one of his finest, go pick this up, if you like a good ol' cop movie, then this will be interesting. And remember, It's not what you know, it's what you can prove.
Rating: Summary: A one Man mission Review: Washington is wonderful. He plays a thoughtful and intriguing narcotics office in Alonzo, who is the lead of an elite narcotics team. Ethan Hawke plays a newbie police officer in Hoyt, training to be a narcotics officer. He has one day to prove himself to Alonzo. Hoyt starts his day getting ready to make an impression but Alonzo is the one who is about to show Hoyt what it's all about. On his first trip with Alonzo, Hoyt doubts everything Alonzo throws at him realizing how wrong it is. But Alonzo finds a way to convince Hoyt how everything he does is for a reason and how different the streets really are. He teaches Hoyt and walks along the line of justice. But as things start to unfold Alonzo walks along that line and takes Hoyt with him. When Hoyt realizes what Alonzo is teaching him Is not justice but criminal. And as things start to get hot and heavy Hoyt realizes that what he has been through was less a test and more a set-up. This DVD is an action-packed movie with a brilliant cast and soundtrack.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: This is a movie that you can watch with friends over if they want to see it or if you feel like watching a real expensive fictoidic version of 'Crooked Cops'. Denzel Washington is one bad motha... and jus' look into those piercing eyes and you can tell that if 'you' stab him in the back you probably won't live when you try to take two steps. Ethan Hawke plays and excellent rookie cop learning the ropes and doing things that make you wanna say 'stooooooooooopid' but it's that type of curiosity he has that makes Denzel's character unravel his covering of his bad side. Anyways I think this movie is and excellent buy and I am probably gonna get burned owning this copy cause I smell a special edition or something coming on the horizon! Still worth the look though!
Rating: Summary: Great Denzel Washington! Review: Training Day is an uneven movie that is much better because of its performances. The movie details the story of a rookie cop(Ethan Hawke) who follows a veteran narcotics officer(Denzel Washington) around to learn the ropes of the business. It is a brutal, straight forward story that doesn't shy away from showing the brutality of the streets and the people on them. We see attempted rape, drugs, murder, and corruption in both gangbangers and the police. Washington gives probably his best performance ever as Alonzo Harris, a corrupt narcotics officer. He goes from angry to normal in seconds throughout as well as covering up a darker problem. It is a role full of emotion that was definitely written for him. Hawke is also very good as Jake Hoyt, the rookie cop, who balances out Washington's over the edge role. Also starring are Scott Glenn, Cliff Curtis, and Tom Berenger. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre even make brief appearances. The DVD is good although a little overpriced. There is a good widescreen presentation, theatrical trailer and teaser, music videos, alternate ending, commentary, documentary, and deleted scenes. Very good movie, but not for the faint of heart.
Rating: Summary: i saw it in theaters, and i was "okayed" Review: I saw this movie in theaters, it wasn't that great. i still don't say that i liked it even after the awards it won. The best scene is when denzel gets shot by the russian mafia. that scene is worth 3 stars.
Rating: Summary: Should've Won Best Comedy Review: I actually laughed out loud throughout most of this movie. I mean, c'mon, drinking, dope smoking, a trunk full of household appliances, burglary, assault and a residential shoot-out all before lunch. Then finish off the day with stealing millions, the murder of your ex-partner (and mentor) and everyones's on board with the cover-up. Better yet...all the politicians are on board too. And, oh yeah, use your illigitimate son as a human shield in your second shoot-out of the day which, incidently, is with your current partner. Sadly, many people probably think there's some reality in a movie like this. I guaranty you will figure out the ending within the first 15 minutes, completely predictable. In a way though, it does to some extent leave us hanging. We don't know the final outcome for Ethan Hawke's character. Maybe that's the set-up for "Traning Day II"...OH!..please God...NO! The only reason I gave this movie a star is because I was amused by the cartoon quality of Denzel Washington's character. In this case the Oscar is an undeserved scholarship. The only thing that this movie is missing is a skinny coyote with a lit ACME Rocket strapped to his back. Do youself a favor. Don't believe the hype. Don't buy it or rent it. Walk past it at the video store to "The French Connection", "The Seven-Ups" or even "Prince of the City".
Rating: Summary: An excellent, well thought-out film... Review: "Training Day" may very well be the smartest cop drama in recent history. Denzel Washington gives an Academy Award-winning performance as Alonzo, a hard-edged street cop whose specialty is narcotics. Ethan Hawke plays his rookie of the day who is fresh from training and is green in the field. The film, as the title implies, follows our characters for a day and we see Alonzo do some things we're not sure we want cops doing, such as drinking and driving, stealing money, and taking drugs. While the film's ending is highly predictable and even inevitable, it still leaves a strong impact on the audience. Denzel Washington is completely outstanding as the narcotics detective. This really is a hugely different role for him and he handles it effortlessly, putting him among other film tough-guys like DeNiro, Humphrey Bogart, Al Pacino, and Sean Connery. Washington glows on the screen, steals the show from an already-outstanding cast and flexes those acting muscles like he never has before. Some people questioned his getting the Oscar for this movie. I don't. This is the best performance so far in his career. Director Antoine Fuqua also does a splendid job in keeping the film fluid, fast, and furious. There are touches of humor mixed with scenes of violence. Very rarely does a director really flesh out the surroundings and setting the way Fuqua has done here. "Training Day" is one of the best films of 2001 and shouldn't be missed at all.
