Review: Training Day was as i expected a great film! Not only did this movie suprise me, it shocked me especially when i noticed that Denzel washington played a ruthless backstabing cop that would do anything to be on top! it's a great film with a great cast and the story was unbelievable especially when you start taking Denzel side after he give this speech about living in the real world. The only thing i have to say is A MOST HAVE!!!!

Review: I heard from numerous people that this movie was great. I was so excited when it finally arrived on DVD. Boy did I make a mistake. The acting was very good yes, but the story did not have an ounce of believability. The story about Denzel's character having to pay off the Russians, or whoever they were, was so dull and seemed like a mistake at the point of the film where it was introduced. Watchable but very uninspired.

Review: This is a very intense police drama that stares Denzel Washington, as the evil, very corrupt narc Alonzo Harris, and Ethan Hawke, as the "rookie", Jake Hoyt, who spends one day on the job with Alonzo. Little does he know that Alonzo is so hard nosed, and that he joins in the drug inducing along with the creeps he is trying to bring down.
Jake has quite a day with Alonzo. Washington's Alonzo is unnerving but brilliant!! He is one of the best actors and has my deepest admiration for going against the type of characters he usually plays. It was very brave of him to take on this role. I found myself shocked at some of the things the character said and did, especially since he is supposed to be a police officer, but I guess they aren't all so good, and Alonzo Harris is definitely one of the baddest cops to grace the big screen. Although, I was so amazingly entralled by this movie, I also found it difficult to watch, but couldn't stop watching because it was just so darn interesting and intense.
I found the acting all around was very good. Denzel is so excellent in this. He is such a talented actor, and I am glad he did this movie. It really shows that he is not afraid to try any role that he finds interesting no matter how immoral that character may be. I think it came at a good time. He was always seen as the good guy; this proves to me that Denzel is a real actor who cares about the craft of acting.
Ethan Hawke was also excellent in this. Before this movie, I had only seen him in "Reality Bites", which was a comedy.
Kudos to him for taking on this role! It was a great performance.
This movie is so worth watching because it of the strong performances by Washington and Hawke and it's capability to keep the viewer glued to the screen. I didn't want to take my eyes away from the screen nor get up for any reason.

Summary: The Best Peformance In A FIlm Goes To Denzel Washington
Review: Training Day is the best cop film and one of the best motion pictures created. This the tale of one rookie cop who teams up for his "training day" with a unstable cop played by Denzel Washington who knows the streets like back of his hand. What is supposed to be a simple training for a rookie cop turns into a battle on the streets. The performances in this films are amazing. Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke deserve Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. I recommend this film to everyone. It is one of the best films of 2001.

Review: Most reviewers have already discussed Denzel Washington's powerful performance as rogue cop Alonzo Harris, so I won't waste anyone's time by being redundant. What I will say is that "Training Day" is the film which made him my favorite screen actor, and by doing so, has made the film one of my all-time favorites itself. But it's a shame that a lot of people fail to mention Ethan Hawke, who contributed much to the intensity of the movie. Think about it. When Jake was forced to fend for himself at the hands of the Hillside trio, one look at his face and you actually feel for his character. When he's invited to sit down and play some cards, he's scared to death, but tries desperately to hide it. When he's pulled into the bathtub, you're on the edge of your seat aching for him to find a way out. His nervousness throughout the entire film is apparent, and some of "Training Day's" most intense moments would not have been pulled off so successfully had it not been for his bravura performance. I'm very glad he was nominated for best supporting actor. Music lovers will see three of the most popular music artists alive in the film. Macy Gray makes her film debut as a 'hood rat, and I must say she pulled it off quite impressively for a first-timer. Snoop Dogg appears as a paraplegic drug dealer, and while at times he goes a little overboard with over-acting, he did pretty well. As for Dr. Dre, he's almost as bad as Nas was in "Belly." Antoine Fuqua, who directed "the Replacement Killers" and the underrated "Bait" is becoming increasingly better with each movie he makes. Some of the visuals in "Training Day" are surrealistically stunning, especially the establishing shot of the "Jungle" area. You feel just as uncomfortable as Jake does, but Alonzo takes us for the ride regardless. The script is also pretty good and manages to dish out some really great dialogue. Case in point: Alonzo and Jake's conversation in the Monte Carlo after the "Roger incident." Truly, folks, this is one of the best cop thrillers to come out in a long time. To those who say that "Training Day" would be mediocre at best without the presence of Denzel Washington, I think they're wrong. While he does deliver one of the best performances I've ever seen, it can't be a bad movie when the only scene without him turns out to be the most powerful and nerve-wracking (the Hillside scene). The DVD is okay, but I wanted more. The "Making-Of" documentary is only 15 minutes and the alternate ending is nothing special, but the deleted scenes are great. I especially liked the scene where Alonzo talks to Jake about witnessing a man beating a dog. Antoine Fuqua's commentary gives you plenty of information about some of the hidden messages in "Training Day;" I was namely suprised to find out just exactly why Alonzo asked the rape victim where she was from. It's chilling. The DVD also features two music videos by Nelly and Pharaoh Monch. There's also of course the cast & crew filmographies. I've seen this movie twice in theaters and four more times on a bootleg VHS tape. When the DVD was released, it almost felt like Christmas for me. I really loved this movie. If you see it around, BUY IT, because it's become a hot seller here and is already sold out in every movie store I've been to. That speaks for itself.

Summary: great performance, so-so movie
Review: After watching Russell Crowe's excellent performance in "A Beautiful Mind", I was prepared to acknowledge that he was the obvious winner for the academy award this year. Now that I have seen "Training Day", I am not so sure. Denzel Washington, playing very out of character, puts in one of his best performances of his career, in my opinion, in a film which doesn't even come close to "Beautiful Mind" in terms of the over-all quality of the film. All the more credit to Denzel; which makes me think the award ought to go to him this year.

Summary: Great movie, very powerful performances by all
Review: I was expecting a decent movie and got what could be the best action/drama film to come along in quite sometime. This film had more twists and turns than a roller coaster ride. Just when you think you have this film figured out, here comes something completely out of the blue that changes everything. Pay attention to things that Denzel says and how they happen later in the movie. Everything that happens ties in perfectly with either past events or events yet to come. Perfect mesh of all aspects of the plot. No holes, no "why did that happen" filler parts. The basic story here is that Ethan Hawke is a new comer to the LAPD and he has the opportunity to join an elete team of narcotics agents headed up by Denzel Washington. All in hopes of the detective job a few years down the road. As the "training day" progresses Denzel shows Ethan that there is more to being a cop than just writting tickets and rescueing cats from trees. The job Denzel and his team are performing is a bloody and violent one. Usually the tactics employed are illegal and worse than the acts commited by the perps they are busting. To say much more could spoil parts of the movie, so I will leave it at this. Training Day is a fantastic movie. Snoop Dog and Dr Dre makes appearances as a wheel chair bound drug dealer and a member of Denzel's team. Great movie, great job by all actors and actresses involved here. Truely a special movie.

Summary: Washington Lights Up The Screen
Review: Training Day is at best a slight movie that is elevated to above average thanks entirely to Denzel Washington. The film is the familiar tale of a rookie cop with high ideals who is paired up with a veteran who looks at the job in a much different light. Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) wants to be a narcotics officer so he can help clean up the streets and make them safe. He gets teamed with Alonzo Harris (Mr. Washington) who is more crooked than the criminals themselves. Through the course of a day, Jake sees the dark side through Harris and you are taken along for the training session. Mr. Washington just eats up the screen playing against type. He sometimes goes a little overboard (spewing lines like "King Kong ain't got nothin' one me" is a bit much), but overall, he shows why he very well might be the best actor of his generation. Mr. Hawke is solid as Jake and, although he sometimes can't keep up with Mr. Washington, he acquits himself well. This film is worth seeing for Mr. Washington's performance alone.
