Review: oh denzel! denzel, denzel, denzel! he is just great. mean as a snake and dangerous as hell. "we the cops, we can do the' [heck] we want." [heck] YES. i have never seen a cooler character than alonzo. ive never seen denzel act like such an [punk]. its wonderful. you know what though? i really think sean penn should have got the oscar. denzel was well deserved but sean penn was brilliant in I am Sam. i think denzel got the award because weve never seen him act in such a vulgar manner. and we liked it. they liked it so he got it.

Review: This is a must see movie! If you haven't seen this movie, you have to rent it as soon as possible! Denzel Washington does an amazing performance. This outstanding movie will blow you away. It's one of my favorite and also one of the best movies I have ever seen!

Summary: TOUR DE FORCE FOR DENZEL
Review: The film is pretty powerful stuff, thanks to Denzel Washington's first-rate performance as a thuggish, absolutely corrupt cop. The high point of the movie, however, involves Ethan Hawke and a room full of toughs who have been paid to murder Hawke. How Hawke gets out from under this death sentence is typical Hollywood logic-stretching, but the claustrophobic sequence still makes makes for some pretty unnerving viewing. The ending is a bit of letdown, but is compensated for by Washington's acting prowess in every scene that goes before.

Summary: See it for Denzel, if Nothing Else
Review: This is Denzel Washington's film. It is not his finest role, nor his most complex, but it is among his most fascinating. Washington plays aganist type as Detective Alonzo Harris, a roaving detective who leads his own squad of hard case/corrupt officers in a quest to clean up the streets a bit, and profit from it alot.The story takes place in one day in LA, as Washington ostensibly trains officer Jake Hoyt, played by Ethan Hawke, for duty on his squad. Hoyt wants the job, admires Harris, and wants to make a name for himself. As Harris takes him through the day, we see Hoyt tested again and again, and pushed to the breaking point by a commander who assures him that everything is just a test. Overall, the movie is very watchable. The cinematography and direction are excellent, and one gets a feel for the hard side of Los Angeles. There are inspired supporting turns, from Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, and Scott Glen. Sadly, the writing is not quite up to snuff, and it falls upon th relationship between Hawke and Washington to carry the film. Hawke is meerly a decent actor in a cliched "good cop" role. He is defined by the morality he apparently gre up with. His Oscar nomination was an insult to Gene Hackman's brilliant turn in "The Royal Tenenbaums". Washington, however, deserves all the praise he ahs recieved. He is at the same time vicious, sympathetic, and professional, and his good-natured badness drives the film, and keeps it from falling apart. I don't think Denzel deserved the oscar. Russell Crowe gave a much better performance in the otherwise dull "A Beautiful Mind", but his recieving it is no crime. He makes the movie work as well as he can. The movie loses it's way in the final act, with an ending telegraphed from early on, and the resolution to one storyline is such a Dues ex Machina that it pulled me out of the film for a bit. This is more of a renter than anything else, but it is worth seeing once, if just for Washington's performance.

Summary: Training Day-Denzel Delievers
Review: Training Day, starring Academy-Award winner Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke was a fine, mediocore film. The film had a reasonable plot, but was virtually pointless to what it condemned. It had strong performances from Denzel, specifically and a few from young, not quite adolescent, Ethan Hawke, who was quite nominated for his acting in this film, but sadly did not win. Anyway, Training Day is about a corrupt cop named Alonzo Harris, played by remarkable Denzel Washingon. He has been appointed a young rookie/novice played by Hawke. Harris tries and teaches Hawke's character the dangerous and precarious methods of how he handles his job. Of course in the incorrect and erroneous manner. He makes Hawke perform awful and unpleasant things, he teaches him the way of being a bad and evil cop, in other words, he teaches him how to be himself.
From here, Hawke learns of something that really effects his life, he learns of what Washington's true life is and why his life is at stake and what he trying to do in order to save his life. The situation is drastic and deadly for Hawke, he must risk everything to stop this cop from succeeding in his goals. The film is decent, definetly not sophisticated and worth watching. Director Antoine Fuqoa tries to impressive and inspiring but fails on all attempts. The film was decent, but the action was commemorable, especially from Washington's character. In fact, he won an oscar for his performance for Best Actor in this movie, which makes him a 2 time Academy-Award winning actor. He's a good actor, but this was not his best work.
This film is violent, brutal, profane and horrifc, but yet okay. Gosh, I only gave it 4 stars with the terrific acting, otherwise I would have given it 2. Anyways, see Training Day if you must! Rated R for Strong Brutal Violence, Pervasive Language, Drug Content and Brief Nudity. Now available to own on Video and DVD.

Review: There is everything a typical Hollywood movie has in this movie: violence, sex and an not-so-logical story. You are entertained with the cool acting by denzel washington, but as the story gets non-sense, especially in the ending, your expectation will be betrayed.

Review: This movie is a sucker in progress. It doesn't quite suck, but it's not great. Don't let any big scary people like the Academy award men tell you any different. The acting is good, but the movie is average. I like watching Ethan Hawke stoned, because while he's training now, he'll hopefully get physically stoned in his next movie.

Review: This is a horrible and depressing film despite Mr. Washington's superb acting abilities.The problem with black actors as always is that they have no idea that they are being used (or may be they dont want to know?). This film is not only racist and an affront to blacks and hispanics,but it is also very unfortunate that an accomplish actor like Denzel does not have the courage to turn down a script like this insulting piece of garbage.(He certainly doesn't need it). Black stars in hollywood should be seen as role models and should be making more films about strong and dignify characters rather than selling themselves short like they've been doing throughout the film industry's history.There is nothing wrong in playing bad guys in films but hollywood has made much too little films about black historical figures and way too much about buffoonery and a plethora of stepandfetchit movies. Nothing has changed. This is absolutely tragic!

Review: The movie is excellent. There is no doubt about it, you can get more information about the movie from the critics and other reviewers on this page. It is not Washington's best but is excellent nevertheless. What I really like about this DVD is the care which they had taken to create it. The picture is superb, the sound is unblievable. It is my current demo DVD whenever I want to demo my Home Theatre. Get it now. It is a joy to watch this movie.

Summary: Good Acting / Provocative Story
Review: The story of a young, "green" narcotics officer and a corrupt veteran officer, Training Day is definitely a movie to talk about. Ethan Hawke plays a young cop during his first day on the LAPD narcotics squad. He is to receive his training from Denzel Washington, the Sr. Officer in the same group. During his training, Washington challenges Hawke to cross the line between cop and criminal. Provoking ideas throughout the movie, like "what would you do if your life counted on it?" However the last 30 seconds are entirely predictable. Still, very much worth buying!
