Rating: Summary: Loved this Biscuit! Review: One of the most inspirational and uplifting films in years. Without all the blood and violence of most current films, it manages to capture both your imagination and heart. And, it is a true story that has kept pretty faithful to the facts. Seeing this film makes you understand why this underrated horse (who was written off as a loser) enthralled millions of Americans during the Depression. Seabiscuit was the Prozac of his time, helping to make people feel good without the side effects. The actors are all outstanding and the music is typically great Randy Newman. This is one film you can watch over and over again when you need an emotional boost. It is a real winner!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Film Review: It took me awhile to get around to watching this, even though I had heard how great it was. I love horse racing and I had planned on seeing this movie sooner. The movie was really good and I concur with all the kudos it seems to be receiving. The story is well told and script is good. The acting is great and the movie scores as a big film even though it doesn't have the huge special effects or giant battle scenes so common in blockbuster type movies. It probably isn't the kind of film that would appeal to younger audiences, however, and even thought the violence is pretty mild and the sexual content is just mildly suggested, they story itself involves an understanding above the head of most preteens and maybe a good portion of younger teens as well. I mention this because it is a great family movie (with the appropriate ages) because at the heart of the film is a wonderful coming of age story. It is the story of a boy becoming a man, and because of the plethora of coming of age stories that are more like "Spider Man" than this film, it is a true treasure. I highly recommend it and while I haven't read the book and don't have an opinion on the quality of the translation or the historical accuracy of the film, I will enjoy watching this one again.
Rating: Summary: NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Review: This was the worst piece of you know what I have ever watched! 45 min into the film there was still no mention of "the" horse. It was extremely boring until the horse came into the picture and then it was only so-so. My family and I had a hard time keeping track of the characters due to the fact that the film jumped around so much. I would have turned it off after the first hour but felt obligated to watch it at least once since we shelled out the money. Don't waste your time!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie For Horse Lovers Review: This movie was really great. I myself have loved horses all my life and have been riding for about 3 years. I believe that even non-horse lovers will enjoy this movie. Unless you believe that racing horses is wrong, which some of these reviews imply. I belive it is not wrong, and you can see why just by watching this movie. The horse is bred to run and so it loves racing, its their instinct. The movie also inspired me to read the book, which (if you enjoy the movie) is something that will continue your love of the movie. After reading the book I believe they could have made the movie better by including more of the details. But all in all, the movie is a great summary of the events of Seabiscuit.
Rating: Summary: Great movie! Review: I bought this movie since we got a DVD player for Christmas, and we have 2 horses... even if you are not a horse lover, I think you will like it. I sat down to only plan watching 20 minutes of it, (going to sleep) and I couldn't stop watching! Great movie! I will watch again. Worth the purchase. People I know who don't even like horses, recommended this movie to me! Buy it today!
Rating: Summary: limp biscuit Review: Animal abuse is the least of this movie's problems. It's slow, boring, and overrated. Basically, it's another silly movie with "Oscar bait" written on its face. There's no substance. Tobey Maguire was awesome in "Spiderman," but he ain't working in this flick. Skip this self-important turkey and rent "Gigli" instead.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as it is said to be... Review: When I first heard about this movie, I thought that it would be the best movie I have ever seen. Then, when I finally watched it, I found that it was a little bit dragged out and wasn't really focused pn the horse, but more of the jokey and it's owner's lives. It was still a good movie, just not as good as they are advertising it to be.
Rating: Summary: Animal abuse was too disturbing to enjoy the film Review: This film is full of animal abuse, and some of it even seemed to be encouraged by the writers. Breeding horses for the sole purpose of making money from racing them is just plain wrong. The acceptable practice of "putting down" or killing a horse after it is wounded is disgusting. The only reason why I gave this movie 2 stars is because the acting was pretty good and it portrayed the story fairly accurately, from a historical perspective. But if you have any love for animals at all, you will not find this film very entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Great cinematography Review: This is an absolutely beautifully made film that captures the period and the excitement of horseracing in stunning fashion. Jeff Bridges, Toby McGuire and Chris Cooper all give fine performances. How they got the horses in this film to perform as they did is the real story. Absolutely magical for lovers of horseracing or horses in general. I thought the actors were good but the horses were wonderful. The movie is overly sentimental and at times a bit corny but overall it is a very good entertainment.
