Summary: One of the best films of 1998.
Review: Not without flaws, this little gem from the summer of 1998 inspired me to keep going no matter what, as I was about to make a nearly 400 mile trek to my college in Alabama. Bullock gives one of the best performances of her bolstering career as a woman whose husband proves to be anything but faithful. She and her young daughter head home to Texas where her mother lives, hoping to start over. At times this film touched home and made me think about my future and family. However, the script could use some polishing, as we wonder why Travis wears those cute costumes, what happens to Birdie's father after the funeral, and some things just looked out of place, but these little errs are easily overlooked and overshadowed by the film's dramatic emotional impact. Caleb Deschanel's photography never looked more natural or gorgeous, as it conveys the message of light and hope in times of dark peril and despair.

Summary: HOPE SINKS!!!
Review: This movie was so boring, I almost didn't finish it! It doesn't make you care about the characters and what happens to them. The story had potential but the movie just dragged. I was disappointed that Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr (a potentially great team) would do such a movie. Don't waste your money on this one!

Summary: Romance in the old way
Review: I was astonished to see that I reflected so much on this movie. It is very romantic and very well played. It was wonderful to see Gena Rowlands again acting as good as she always has done. But the great surprise for me was Sandra Bullock. She is certainly a girl with great classical style. I plan to see all her coming movies. The chemistry between her and Connick was very thrilling and I saw these scenes over and over again. The great disappointment was the very oldfashioned look at the role of a woman today. If Bullock didn't change after the end of the movie's story she would fall into the same type of problems as she had with Bill. I couldn't believe that a smart girl like Bullock didn't have any education. But I 50+ live in Europe. To-night I will enjoy Stolen hearts with Bullock.

Summary: one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.
Review: I have watched this movie at least 5 times, I love the romance that slowly happens between Bullock and Connick there must have been some real chemistry going on between them. I would love to see him in more movies. I only wish it ended with there getting married, but at least they were together. This was a movie I didn't want to come to an end. I will definitely buy it for the home collection.

Summary: A Hopeless, dull endless satire lack of chrisma
Review: Hope Floats is the most boringest movies of the decade. No good acting, confusing story and plot and all this was like writing a paper in a hurry. That's what Hope Floats. Dull Dumb, and really boring and stupid. *1/2 D

Summary: Good movie, great soundtrack
Review: If there was ever a movie that I really wanted to hate, this was it. A friend whose taste is usually horrible recommended it, and it co-starred a guy a chauffeur friend of mine told me was arrogant and obnoxious. The trailers made it clear that it was going to be hopelessly smarmy. I anxiously awaited its debut on HBO so I could tear it apart, but I really liked it -- Sandra Bullock and Connick have chemistry, and the performance of the boy who plays Travis is touching. There are some slow (boring) scenes scattered throughout, but there are also some real gems --one of the scenes with Birdee and her alzheimers-stricken father, and the chat between Travis and Justin (Connick) after a funeral. There were some others, but I don't want to spoil them. Smithville, Texas is a charming town (visit it sometime if you're in the area) and some of the photography in Hope Floats really captures that. I was disappointed with the role of Bullock's daughter (the way she treated her mother and worshipped her father made no sense), but overall I still enjoyed the movie. I also loved the soundtrack, which is saying a lot since it was mostly country and I generally hate country music.

Summary: Authentic, heartfelt film.
Review: I saw this movie first in the theater last summer and just got done watching it for the second time (on video). I have to say, I enjoyed it much more the second time (sans cynical boyfriend). Anyway, Bullock is just great, Connick adorable, and Bernice totally believable as a precocious, heartbroken little girl. The little boy who played Travis was terrific too. This film really struck close to home -- small towns are like this, people in the midwest are like this. I remember seeing Bullock doing press for this movie -- she seemed pleased as punch -- she deserves to be. This film is a gift to every homesick midwesterner (I'm from Nebraska) and anyone who has ever struggled to live life as an authentic, flawed, complicated, wonderful adventure -- Larry McMurtry meets Nora Ephron. My only complaint is the denoument -- I wish I'd had a little more story there, but I guess that's because I didn't want it to end. Good girls do finish toward the top sometimes -- as they say, hope floats. Thanks.

Summary: Hope Floats had me floating in my bucket of tears!!!!:-(
Review: This movie is a tear jerker. The film shows some of the unsecure emotions a person can go through when having to start over in a relationship. The only time I didn't cry was through the opening credits. I would watch it again and again. Bullock gets an A!!!

Summary: Hope Floats sinks hoplelessly...
Review: As an avid movie fan, I'll admit that there have been very few films that I HATE. This is one of them. The pathetic attempt at character development fails miserably. Worse yet, by the time you get a feel for the characters, you suddenly realize that they are actually 2 boring people in a very boring "romance". Hope Floats is to Romance flicks what Judge Dredd is to ...romance flicks. I wish I could tell you what the movie is about but nothing happens in it. Save yourself the couple of hours and stay clear of this lemon.
