Rating: Summary: Sandra's Best Review: Sandra Bullock gives her most critically-acclaimed performance in this touching and heartwarming story about following your heart and finding yourself. Birdee Pruitt (Bullock) has a life most people would envy. But when her cheating husband reveals his infidelity to her on a national TV talk show, her perfect life comes crashing down. Devastated, Birdee and her young daughter head home to the small town she left behind. As mother and daughter struggle to adjust to their new lives, Birdee slowly gains the strength to open her heart - and find hope again.
Rating: Summary: A Touching Movie Review: I went to see this movie in the theater, because I am a big fan of Harry Connick Jr. I was not disappointed by either him, or the movie. All of the characters seem wonderfully real. Others complain that the character of Bernice is whiny and mean, but I felt that the depiction was rather accurate. How are little girls supposed to act, when their father is gone, and their whole world has been suddenly changed? The evolution of Justin and Birdee's relationship is also touching. She doesn't automatically fall into his arms, it takes time, and alot of work on his part. He is a man who is willing to wait for her, and he understands that she still has alot of feelings for her husband, that she must explore. My favorite characters are that of the mother, and Travis (the little boy). This is an all around touching movie, that will not disappoint you. Most of all, it is a sweet, simple movie about love..........and hope.
Rating: Summary: Dull movie with a few good parts Review: It's not often that I find myself talking to myself in a movie theater, but this movie was one exception. I forgot what I was talking about but it was certainly more interesting than this thing.A by-the-numbers romance about a woman going through a divorce and the white trash guy that loves her, this movie has no surprises, and no interesting characters. Sandra Bullock is cute but that doesn't carry the movie. The only reason why I give this movie any stars is because Harry Connick jr. and Sandra Bullock together on screen are great, but those scenes are too far between. Instead we get the annoying mother, the whiny daughter and the creepy husband and you just hate these people, especially that daughter (she's almost Anna Paquin from the Piano but thankfully she's not THAT bad) I was hoping for something better from Forrest Whitaker who seems to be carving his directorial niche in chick movies (Waiting to Exhale was an excellent movie) but this movie was just a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: HOPE FLOATS Review: I have, to date, bought seven copies of this video. I am giving them to various friends and family members in need of some comfort and "hope". This film deals with dilemmas which we each have or will, at some time, face in our lives. The situations will not necessarily be the same but have loss and betrayal in common with the occurrences in the film. Sandra Bullocks's portrayal of Birdee was impeccable. I especially liked the fact that she surrounded herself with "things" that she associated with the people that she had lost. She kept Bill's shirt that she had found before leaving the house. It, evidently, still had his scent on it. She slept in it at her mother's. She wore her father's jacket the day that she walked through the rain to the school. She carried his lunch pail as a purse. After her mother's death, she wroe the mother's dress for the funeral. These are things that I have found myself doing after a loss. It gave a "realness" to that character that she would not have had otherwise. I had seen Harry Connick Jr. in other things, but he was outstanding in this movie. I have, since, gone back to have a second look at his other performances. He is, very quickly, becoming one of my very favorite singers and actors! Both of the children in the film were darling. I enjoyed Mae Whitman's efforts at driving "Justin" away from her mother! The skunk story is classic. Gena Rowlands was outstanding as the mother. She was always there for her family/daughter altho' she did not always "say" or "do" the right thing. She tried to "do well" by them. Most of Texas is not like Smithville. I live in Texas, and most towns are somewhat more sophisticated than that. There is still, happily, a lot of the "Western" mystique about the place tho'. I think that this is a great movie!
Rating: Summary: Touching! Review: I thought that this movie was so warm and true. It showed a young woman who was hurt and confused, and allowed her to grow throughout the movie. Sandra Bullock did an outstanding job in her role as Birdie, who finds out that her husband and best friend are having an affair. After she finds out, she moves back to the town where she grew up. This movie can be slow at many times, but the acting and genuineness of the performances is definitely not to be missed. There were so many scenes that stuck out throughout this movie, especially the bathroom scene, the job searching scene, and many others. Bullock gives a vulnerability to this role, as well as some strength. I thought that this movie was very touching, and is definitely something that should be shared with the entire family. It's about the strength people really do have, and the courage to face heartache and get through it!
Rating: Summary: A fine film! Review: This movie is very good. The chemistry between Bullock and Connick is excellent. Gena Rowlands is perfect as the mother. The movie is finely drawn, the acting perfect, and the actors divine. Rated: A+.
Rating: Summary: This was OK for the typical predictable love story! Review: Harry Connick's role was short and simple, he just hung around, didn't do much to "win" her love. Little Bernice did an outstanding scene and gut wrenching cry for her Daddy. It was so real, her pain of "just wanting to live with her Daddy" even though he didn't really have time for her.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: It was an outstanding movie, I loved it and most women would, it's very close to real life, except real life doesn't always turn out that great. Gena Rowlands was great, a really neat Mom to have.
Rating: Summary: an totally cool video Review: this video is one of the best movies i have ever seen. it has a very good plot and is a truely touching love story. i recomend it to anyone who wants to watch a good love story with a very good ending!
Rating: Summary: Harry Connick Good, everything else is stale Review: Maybe call it Sandra Bullock burn-out, but I'm starting to find her annoying. Perhaps the script or directing was to blame. For whatever reasons, the movie ends up a flop. The initial "hook" -- cheating husband revealed on TV -- was clever enough, and the trip home to an oddball mom starts out kinda interesting. But from there, it's as if the writers/directors quit, and they just went through the motions for the rest of the movie. A lot of wasted potential. Harry Connick is good, but again seemed hamstrung by either the script or directing. Overall, mediocre fare.
