Summary: Another Masterpiece from Spielberg
Review: Man i love this movie. This movie is one of my favorite movie of 1998 and if you have seen it then you know why. First of all the battle scenes are very intense and realistic. The violence is plentiful but never so gross you can't watch it. Because of the violence this movie nearly got an NC-17 rating which would have killed this movie. Also possibly it's chances at the oscars. But since Steven Spielberg is so powerful he got his way. Now to the movie. What was so good about this movie is that it movies you from start to finish the script although may seem kinda simple you don't care about that because the performances are excellent espcially Tom Hanks which he once again gave another top notch performance. The cast includes Matt Damon is very good along with a bunch of newcomers. The imagery is very haunting from cinematogrepher Janusz Kiminski is excellent. What makes this one of his best films is the expert direction from Spielberg, music from John Williams which i love the track Hymn To the fallen and top notch performances. I saw this movie twice and i was so excited i had to see it again. Just like the first time at the end i was crying because it is so powerful i think that this was the best picture of last year not Shakespeare In Love.Bravo to Spielberg i can't wait for his next film also he should direct a 007 movie he i think would make a very cool 007 movie. Summary: Outstanding!! A "must see" for everyone!
Review: This is an outstanding depiction of war and combat combined with a heartwarming act of decency in an otherwise not so pleasant situation. The special effects are so real it actually FEELS like you're there. There's no holds barred for displaying the brutality of war either. The first 20 minutes should be required viewing for every high school history class to show our young people the horrors of war so they may try harder to prevent it.

Summary: Possibly one of the greatest war movies of all time.
Review: Being a Vietnam vet from Australia,this movie has made a very significant impact on me. I found the opening sequence both very moving and very disturbing. It is certainly one of Spielbergs finest works and I believe it deserves all the praise that has been heaped upon it. I feel that some people are missing the point about the content of the movie, some felt that once again the Americans won the war, but it IS about an American patrol. Tom Hanks was absolutely wonderful in his performance, his work just gets better with each role. Just remember it is a MOVIE and not meant to be the real thing. Well done all concerned.

Review: "Saving Private Ryan" is a true-to-life look at the physical and mental pains of World War Two. Outfitted with extensive speciall effects, an allstar cast, and excellent acting an plot, This my be ranked along with Schindler's List as one of the most incredible films of the twentieth century.

Summary: THE BEST CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE EVER
Review: THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST EVER MADE. I'm not just some stupid yahoo claiming its the best because its my favorite. All those who say this movie is terrible are probably just anti-Spielberg for their own reasons. The effect of this movie is considerably dwarfed on one's own television compared to seeing it in a theatre. Also, if you saw it on the day it was released, you got an extra bonus. The sound was cranked up to 90 decibels but was soon lowered to 70 because of complaints. When I saw this in the theatre I had no idea what I was in for. It was the movie experience of my life. If you liked this movie, I recommend Paths of Glory, All Quiet on the Western Front, A Walk in the Sun, The Thin Red Line, and Stalingrad.

Summary: "Spielberg Masterpiece" is an oxymoron.
Review: I hate to write a negative review, but given the amount of "5-star" reviews I've seen for this movie, I couldn't resist... First, the positive. I think there were some well shot scenes in this movie. Obviously, the landing at Normandy was one of them...I even liked the scene where the soldiers were going through the dog tags in front of the other soldiers (as trite as that scene was, it worked well in the movie). Even overall, I'll admit, the film was "entertaining and emotional." But it was NOT one of the greatest war movies ever made. Now, to the negative. I already used the word, but "trite" is the best adjective to define the story, acting, and symbolism (what little there was). The story belongs in a Stallone or Lundgren movie (where have we seen the band of soldiers going into enemy territory to find the missing soldiers before? The only thing missing from this movie was Tom Hanks looking at the Germans and saying, "I'll be back."). It's difficult not to compare, but if you're looking for a "war movie," and not an action sitcom, you should really look at "The Thin Red Line." Those who reviewed SPR with "4 and 5-stars" will tell you that it's "boring," that they "just didn't get it," and (my favorite) "it had no story." But as a movie, Saving Private Ryan is no match for a true war movie. In the first 5 minutes of The Thin Red Line, there is more depth, substance, and thought provoking material than in the entire film of SPR. Also, while I'm comparing the two films, compare the number of "sitcom actors" in SPR (and Sorry folks, Tom Hanks is a "sitcom actor") with the number of "film" actors in The Thin Red Line. Not that sitcom acting is bad, but I think "film actors" are generally better actors than sitcom actors. But I digress... In sum,if you don't like to think when you watch movies, and if you want stories spoon fed to you, then Saving Private Ryan is "a true masterpiece." (On this point, I would also like to add that just because a movie makes you "feel good" does not mean that it's a great movie.) However, if by some chance that you demand something more, or are looking for a "great war movie," then you should really look elsewhere because this movie doesn't even come close...

Summary: One of the best films ever made.
Review: Steven Spielberg has truely outdone himself with this masterpiece.Tom hanks is terrific as the captain while Tom Sizemore brings in a great performance as the Sarge.The invasion of D-DAY is brilliantly filmed,with nobody being spared.This 24 minute battle is very intense,very violent and very sad.Soldiers are mowed down by relentless machine gun fire and mortar explosions as other soldiers are some how able to get pass the shower of bullets.Personally this brilliant marvel of a film incredibly deserved to win every oscar it was nominated for.This is the kind of movie that is best viewed on the big screen.You'll never look at war the same way again.EVERYBODY should own a copy of this film.The end battle gets very unstable towards the end.The german that they let go was a serious bastard.Two words sum up this movie:Brilliant & Unforgettable!

Review: I saw "Saving Private Ryan" last summer after I came back from Basic Training in the U.S. Army. It made me feel good about making the decision to surve my coutry. I know that Spelbirg wanted it to be realistic, and he did that. This movie is a testimate to the men who gave it their all in the face of horror and trimindious odds against them. The message of the sacrafice by these men was put on screen in a true format. In the end the movie leaves most people with a sence of gratitude and amazement. The men of D-Day, WWII, and all veterans decided to say I will serve;I willfightand possibly die for my country. That is the greatest thing a person can do for a country and his or her fellow countryman. "Saving Priavte Ryan" shows us the audience that we should never forget the sacrafices of our veterans. I know I will always remmember. I am proud to be a soldier and serve my country.

Summary: A glimpse of what had to be done
Review: Spielberg has unequivically done it again.His passion for all things 1940 had truly paid off like none other of his prior attempts (1941,empire of the sun,Schindlers List,Last Crusade).His flawless newsreelesque opus is captivating from the opening scenes to the parting shots.The D-Day invasion sequence is like nothing ever experienced in the theater before, it has a certain gritty tangability that brings ones racing heart into your throat.You can almost smell the sea air,the diesel from the Higgins boats, the vomit from the seasick and nervous soldiers awaiting their demise.The superb sound and cinemetography puts right there on Omaha beach.Spielberg was wise in keeping author Stephen Ambrose around for technical/historical accuracy.Ambrose's books which are all based on veterans first hand experiences pays off ten fold as the authors myriad of stories lends the film an everyman type quality.That everyman quality is what fighting WWII was really all about.The average joe putting down his tools,leaving family,to go off and fight a foreign war to defeat a true evil force-it was a job that had to be done.No matter how one looks at it WWII was complete 360 degree turning point for the ENTIRE world,the likes of which will never ever happen again the way that it did.Thank you Mr. Spielberg, youve done phenomonal job. By the way, if you liked SPR avoid Thin Red Line-it blows, icant believe it got the credit it recieved. also this is to the guy from Gaithersburg Md-LIGHTEN UP- its a GD movie from Hollywood,made in 1998.
