Summary: Private Ryan go to the back of the line
Review: A friend and I were sitting around channel surfing, when we stumbled on this gem only a couple minutes after it had started. Although not in the mood to watch anything serious or even the same channel for more than a few seconds, we sat in awe until it had finished. Most American films these days are aimed at 14-year-old girls because of their reputed buying power at the box office. This one isn't. Still, I can't imagine any intelligent 14-year-old girl (or person of any age/gender) not liking this. Today's filmmakers often fail to observe the distinction between art and mere entertainment; When Trumpets Fade provides compelling evidence of what can happen when someone does. Country music fans will appreciate the excellent performance by Dwight Yoakam (as an icy southern colonel). Five stars.

Summary: BETTER THAN PRIVATE RYAN
Review: This may very well be the best war film ever made; I believe it surpasses SPR which in itself was an excellent movie.

It is unrelenting in its depiction of the panic and fear often faced by green soldiers when first confronting battle against a seasoned enemy.

The plot is rightly simple: a reluctant private is given battlefield promotions up to and including that of a junior officer because of his ability to lead frightened men in combat.

No sentimentality here and very gew lighter moments (one involves a soldier "mooning" to get his colleagues to laugh).

Why this film was not reviewed by major critics eludes me.

Summary: One of the most realistic historical movies out there!
Review: I am a National Gaurdsman in the 28th ID, (like the men in this movie). It's a realistic movie, dipicting the realities of war. The scenes in this movie are well acted. Most movies today are fanticies, it is good to see historical movies like this one.

Summary: American Combat Soldier
Review: This is undoubtedly the best war film I have ever seen. It shows in detail the horrific and traumatic experiences of the American combat soldier in WWII. It is also a glimpse of the price the fighting men of this country have paid to keep us free.

Review: When Trumpets Fade was a pretty Historicaly acurate movie about the battle for the Hurtgen forest. This is a very good movie if you enjoy history of if you enjoy war movies. All the gore and action makes you feel as if you were part of this campaign. It is one of the best war movies I have ever seen it follows historical acounts and is a very well directed and coreographed movie. I rate it 60% History and 40% Hollywood. In Other words it was great......

Summary: LIKE "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN", A VERY MOVING FILM
Review: AN EXCELLENT MOVIE THAT SHOWS HOW SOLDIERS IN WW II HAD LEADERSHIP ROLES THRUST UPON THEM OUT OF NECESSITY. IT IS NOT A FEEL GOOD MOVIE. THE MOVIE SHOWS THE TRUE NATURE OF THE AMERICAN SOLDIER IN THE EUROPEAN THEATER IN 1944. IT WAS COLD, SCARY AND THE SOLDIERS DIDN'T ENJOY BEING THERE,AS SOME EARLIER WWII MOVIES PORTRAY, BUT THEY STILL DID WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. LIKE "SAVING PRIVATE RYAN" IT GIVES YOU A WHOLE NEW APPRECIATION OF THE MEN THAT FOUGHT IN WWII...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Movie
Review: This is another great movie that shows you battles that were forgotten. It shows you the struggle of the WW2 combat soldier with a day to day life in the feild. If you enjoy this movie buy A Midnight Clear, another excellent movie about WW2 !! Mike Dunn

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A realistically fresh view of WWII in Europe
Review: I felt this movie hit home for my father @ the age of 17 was part of the Keystone Regimate known as the bloody bucket and participated in this battle for the Hurgten forest. I compare this movie to the historical book "Follow me into hell and die" The movie depicts near real life scenes that may have occured during a battle that was of no strategic value to the war effort. Its an honor to those men on both sides. .

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Gritty and accurate...
Review: The realism and gore of actual battle is captured in this film. A cold shower for those who glorify the blood, horror and savagery of combat. Left me deeply sadden for the common soldier, shaken by what they went through and thankful that I have never had to experience such fear and death.
