Summary: mafiosos have hearts too
Review: My father was one of the men working on Sonny's crew back in the seventies before everybody got hauled in. Now he's dead, but one of his last words were, "If you see agent Donnie, if he shows his face again, tell him that I love him and I forgive him." As the movie portrays, it was hard for everyone in the family to not like Donnie Brasco(Joe Pistone). He should've just came forward about his identity. Something could've been worked out.

Summary: FORGET ABOUT IT, ONE OF THE BEST
Review: An excellently told true story, based on the book by the real guy, Agent Joseph Pistone. As you watch Pistone (Depp) infiltrate the mafia through unsuspecting Lefty (Pacino), you get a glimpse into their world. The world of cash, scams, and murder, and an undercover agent is thrown into the middle of it all. In the end, he needs to get out. After all, this was just his day job, but it became his life. Incredible performances by Pacino, Depp, and supporting actor, Michael Madsen.

Summary: Typical Hollywood
Review: Anyone who likes this movie hasn't read the book! The scene when "Sonny Red" gets hit and Donnie Brasco is right there helping cut up the bodies is very amusing because it never happened. Also,if the real "Lefty" ever saw this movie he would want to kill Al Pacino for playing such a loser.

Summary: Good but different from the book!
Review: Now if I had not have read the book I would have said 5 stars but the film is hardly recognisable to the book. It portrays Pistone(Brasco) in a different way. However It's a good film that lets you see the mafia in another light. So good if you have read the book and great if you haven't.

Summary: A true keeper
Review: Overlooked at the time of its release, I really hope Donnie Brasco has found its audience on video and DVD. The depth of characterization so rare in most films is abundant here, and a lot of the credit goes to both Depp and Pacino. This is a really heartbreaking, gritty drama. Its also brightened by an astounding performance by Anne Heche that shatters preconceptions. As a film, there is little wrong with it, but as a DVD, there's a lot to be desired. Such a great film deserves extras, other than just languages and a trailer. Why don't any newer films ever get extras? Its seems that they just get rushed out to the stores without much preparation. The picture is great, but I would expect no less from a modern film. Watch it for the great movie, don't get your hopes up about anything else.

Summary: Forget about it...literally.
Review: What Special Agent Joe Pistone did in the late 70's - early 80's was extraordinary...he infiltrated the New York mob almost up to the point where he was "made" - An actual mobster.

What this movie does, unfortunately, isn't very extraordinary at all. In fact, for anyone who's even read a chapter of the book "Donnie Brasco" (which the movie is "based" upon), this movie is so disappointing that using the "Stop" button on your VCR gets very tempting.

Was I expecting such an excellent translation from book-to-movie? Not really. Six years is hard to condense into two hours of film. Instead, perhaps they should've made this into a mini-series on TV. That would have done the book justice.

However, what the viewer is left with is a highlight reel of the novel, glimpses into a mob world where no one trusts no one, no one wants to spend their own money, and everyone is looking for a break...either to get out or ahead.

This movie is forgettable. The scenes between Heche and Depp are nearly intolerable. They slice right into a picture that should have been devoted to portraying the sad, sorry face of mob life that most normal people never get to see - Lowly henchmen all eying each other, never quite knowing who will be next, and who it's going to come from.

Go to the library and read the book.

Summary: True-To-Life; Excellent Movie!
Review: Based on the life of a young FBI agent who infiltrates the underground world of the largest and most deadly mafia family in New York. You will enjoy this movie if you want something in the quality range of The Godfather but showing the mob from another perspective. Excellent. Don't rent it, buy it!

Summary: A good mob movie with lots of action/ forgwt about its, and
Review: It is a fun movie that is worth watching again and again

Summary: Depp, Pacino are Unsung Powerhouse in "Brasco"
Review: I love Johnny Depp. Truly. But besides my obvious bias (I own all his movies, including Brasco) Donniw Brasco is the best mobster movie I have seen in years. Pacino is always the star of his movies and Brasco is no exception, but Depp's performance is what really gave the film lift. I heartily recommend this film, but be warned: there are some gruesome scenes, and the language is strong.
