Summary: good intentions, but...
Review: it doesn't really work. i don't know exactly what it is about this film, but it's not great. it's alright, but it just doesn't go anywhere really special.
it's not bad, but it's not good either.
plus, it doesn't have the cool look of burton's other movies.

Summary: Maybe not for Die Hard fans
Review: This movie is absolutely great. The plot, the motifs, the characters. Everything is perfectly matched, and it is completely circular. If you still have your dad, run to watch it. And if you don't, run faster to watch it. It is about fantasy and it's power. Where do you want to live, in this world or in your world? You will see down here another review form a "top 1000" reviewer (kona74) that says she (he?)didn't like this movie. Well, what can you expect form a person that reads Mary Higgins' books? You can guess which movie deserves 5 stars, according to Kona74: "Die Hard". O.K., it is clear (you can see that if you enter Kona's "se more about me" section.)
If you watch die hard and feel like you deserve more, try this (Yippee cay-yay). It is an odyssey, a deep lesson and it is, by the way, ver funny. Bring your own tissue box.

Summary: One of the best movies I've seen
Review: This is by far one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Not only is the story incredible, with so many twists and suprises, but it's the kind of movie you can watch over and over and never get bored with. Ewen McGregor gives a stunning performance as Edward Bloom and the watcher is drawn in by his charisma. You'll laugh, you'll cry, but you'll always be hopeful. Tim Burton's Big Fish is definently a must-buy.

Summary: WOW!
Review: Take The Wizard of Oz and mix it up with Forrest Gump and you have Big Fish. Tim Burton has made yet another film classic. Take all his previous films (Batman, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands) and turn them all upside down. This film had almost no dark scary places, and hardly no dark colors. This Tim Burton film was like a burst of all the colors of the rainbow. The effects, the acting, the score, and the cinematography were all superb. Alongside Ewan McGreggor, Jessica Lange, Albert Finney, and Billy Crudup, stand an awesome supporting cast including: Allison Lohman, Steve Bushemi, Helena Bonham Carter, and the always awesome Danny Devito. This film is for everyone to see. Go be taken away by Big Fish.

Summary: This was a good movie.
Review: I found this film to be very good. It had humor, great characters, and a mysteriously fun story. It involves an old man's tall tales that he supposedly went through, and his son doesn't believe him. So the son goes and actually researches the stories to find out what his dad really went through. He expects to find that his father's tall tales aren't so tall, but...

...I can't give away what really happens. But it's a satisfying story that I could watch again and again. Can't wait to own it on DVD!

Great movie.

Summary: BIG FISH: An Extra's Extraneous P.O.V.
Review: Yours truly appears an extra in more than one scene of BIG FISH, so my perspective is somewhat skewed or different, but the professionliasm of everyone involved with the on-location effort was impressive. I thought the resulting release was a sweet story, somewhat like a whimsical, extended episode of THE TWILIGHT ZONE. It's considered the most, er, down-to-earth thing Tim Burton's ever done, and for that reason along, longtime Burton fans will either love BIG FISH or they won't like it at all; i.e., there probably won't be much "gray area" regarding this movie. Minor annoyances include pseudo-Southern accents from a couple of performers, but that's 'coz I'm from the Deep South myself...y'know whut ah mean, bubba?

Summary: This is an exceptional piece and one Tim should be proud of
Review: I'm a big fan of Tim Burton, so I walked into Big Fish with some trepidation. I was aware that this was Tim's big break - a genre movie that wasn't quite so "genre," just like Sam Raimi directing Spider-man. Would he be able to pull off something that's not quite so dark and wonderful but still retain that magical quality that makes Tim's movies so much fun?

Yes!

This is not to say that Big Fish is a happy-go-lucky film. The plot revolves around Will Bloom, a journalist, and his tenuous relationship with his tall-tale-telling father, Edward Bloom. You see, Edward doesn't just make up stories -- he transforms them into Homeric proportions as he spins each tale for his audiences. What Will found to be a wonderful trait as a boy turned to cynicism and frustration as a man. It's like finding out Santa Claus isn't really but still seeing him every day. What do you say to the man?

Nothing, in Will's case. He had long since stopped talking to his father. But then Edward falls ill and Will is called back home. Thus begins a journey through Edward's life, as told by Edward himself and played out for audience as if it were real.

What's compelling about Big Fish is that the events are played with enough seriousness to take them as truth. Yes, there's a witch with a glass eye, a goat-eating giant, the conjoined singing twins Ping and Jin, and a ghostly town named Spectre. But they are all presented with careful maturity. When one of Ed's young friends looks into the witch's eye, he sees his own death on a toilet bowl as a middle-aged man. You half expect his head to explode or something.

That theme, that Ed knows when he's going to die, is an undercurrent throughout the entire film because it crosses the line between fantasy and reality. If Ed's tales are actually false, if they're complete fabrications, why does a man on his deathbed believe in them so strongly? Is it just desperation? Or are they real, in some way?

The answer is both. Ultimately, Will keeps looking for answers that cannot be found - he wants to know his "real father," but in reality he can't accept who his real father is. It is Will who is the fabrication - he has constructed a form of "normalcy" that doesn't exist and that he judges his father by. In the end, it's not about the veracity of anyone's story...it's about listening. All Will ever wanted to do is have his father listen to him.

And at the end of the film and Edward's life, he finally does. This is an exceptional piece and one Tim should be proud of that still manages to stay true to his fantasy roots and yet takes a serious look at very real issues of death, immortality, and a father and son's affection.

Summary: BIG FISH is one of the BEST movies of 2003!
Review: This movie has it all! It has humor, fantasy, and an overall outstanding story! Ewan McGregor plays a fabulous Edward Bloom, an eccentric young man on a journey to find a "bigger pond." Tim Burton delivers a wonderful and touching story in this film about a dying man with a son who won't accept him as he is. The movie takes you on the twists and turns through Edward Bloom's life as his son tries to discover who his father is. Although mildly disappointing for some Burton fans, as it is not as weird as some of his other movies, you will not be dissapointed with this movie. The cast is great and the story is phenomenal creating an exceptional film!

Summary: reel this one in
Review: A truly exquisite masterpiece from the genius of Tim Burton. Beautifully crafted, superbly acted and leaviung an audience with tears of joy. Finney as always is perfect in the role of the older man. Ewan Mcgregor compliments the older actor with his interpretation of the younger man. Jessica Lange doesn't get enough screen time, but what she has she steals. With an array of great character actors in the supporting cast I defy anyone to watch this modern fable and not come away moved.

Summary: An absolute must-see
Review: This movie was amazing. It was absolutely beautiful. This is the reason that movies are made. I read Ebert's review and he said it was childish. But i think that is what Burton wanted to do with the movie. The reason it was so good, i think, was because of the simplicity of it all. Taking these old man's storys and turning them into real life. The way Burton mixed fact with fiction was amazing. Watching the way this son, who has a bad relationship with his father, react with the news that his father could be passing away very soon is amazing. The acting in this fim is awesome. The way the characters mature through this movie is outstanding. The fact that it was changed a lot from the book only adds to it, because it was like seeing 2 different awesome stories. This is an absolute must see for any fan of a good movie.
