Review: This will be the greatest movie ever made except for TITANIC (which lets face it was an excellent movie).It will be the biggest gangster movie of all time which unquestionably will beat road to perdition in the oscar race.SAm Mendes's first movie was American Beauty (not at all deserved best picture.Should've went to Green Mile.Gangs of New York will star Leonardo DiCaprio(Amsterdam Vallon).(dont make fun of him he's an excellent actor(make fun of Josh Hartnett(no talent there.Anyway it will be set in the 1860's during the civil war in a battle in the street Daniel-Day Lewis (Bill the Butcher) murders DicaprioS father(Liam Neeson) and seeks revenge with the help of CAmeron Diazes character.The film will open on CHRISTMAS DAY and will be a major hit and will hope fully become the 2002 BEST PICTURE. As for BEST ACTOR I hear they dont know if they want to give it to Dicaprio or DAy Lewis(HOPEFULLY DiCaprio) cause DAY Lewis already won it for a film called MY LEFT FOOT in the early 80s.Martin Scorsese will most likely win BEST DIRECTOR.I Gurantee that this will be an excellent film.GO Leo.

Review: Di Caprio and Diaz deserve each other. I saw this at a screening. Who gave them a license to act? Children,,,what they know about acting. TERRIBLE MOVIE. NO MERIT, NO SUBSTANCE and NO SOUL! 86 it, trash it, burn it. It has no value. All it did for me was think of these two-bit actors as looking for attention.

Review: Gangs of New York will be a triumph for many reasons. Marty is the greatest living film director. He is a perfectionist, and he has fought long and hard for Gangs Of New York to remain his 'vision'. He chose Leonardo DiCaprio to play the lead role -he did that, not only because he knows how talented the kid is, but without the kid's star "power", his vision would only be a dream instead of reality. The "kid" got him the financing and the backing he needed to finally make his dream movie.Daniel Day Lewis was not Scorsese's first choice to play the Butcher, but when DeNiro bowed out, DiCaprio AND Scorsese together were able to entice DDL out of retirement to take it on. DiCaprio has been 100% committted to Scorsese's dream movie since 1999. That's a long time. That's total committment. From every review I have read of the pre-screenings, DiCaprio AND DDL are both amazing in the movie. DDL will overpower us with an unforgettable Bill the Butcher, and DiCaprio will again wield his power on the audience so that when they walk away from the movie, he will "have them" in his back pocket. Why? Because he is being directed by the greatest director of all time and he is the best actor of his generation.

Summary: A Masterpiece of Epic Proportions
Review: I don't know about everyone else, but I've been coveting this movie for the past year and a half. Ever since I found out that it was going to be released this year, I slowly but surely grew more and more anxious to see this film. It was torture waiting for December to roll around,but let me tell you something...it was DEFINITELY worth the wait.
I was lucky enough to see 'Gangs of New York' on its opening day and I'm more than happy to say that I was one of the first people to get yet another Scorsese fix.:) Now..please allow me to voice my opinion. I personally loved this film..not because my favorite director in the entire universe, Martin Scorsese directed it, but because it's such a great story. It shows the audience a period in not just New York's history, but also in America's own history that very few people know about.It also aides America's identity by acknowledging the fact that it's a nation shared by its native blood and its foreign brethren. And because of that, 'Gangs of New York' is probably one of the most beautifully crafted and profoundly poignant films to ever grace cinema.
The back drop of the Civil War Draft Riots works wonderfully with the growing conflict between the various Irish gangs and the 'pure-blooded American' gangs that will eventually intertwine with the other as the film progresses.
The movie's soul centers around its three central characters: Amsterdam Vallon (Leo DiCaprio), Jenny Everdeane (Cameron Diaz) and Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day-Lewis). Each actor gave outstanding performances, but in my opinion, the best performance was given by Daniel Day-Lewis. His incarnation of Bill "the Butcher" Cutting is one that's influential, respected, feared, and yet, ironically compassionate. What Day-lewis delivered to the audience was nothing short than one of the best and most memorable performances ever.
I'm not going to go deeper into the plot-line because I don't want to ruin it for everyone. But please trust me when I say that it's an incredible movie, an unforgettable movie, a movie worth seeing.
I also recommened reading the book it was adapted from as well. It's a great read!

Summary: Who cares about Leo! He's not the point!
Review: Why is everyone on one side or the other about what they thing about Leonardo DiCaprio. Any hype that goes to this movie should be about either Martin Scorsese or Daniel Day-Lewis (who practically hasn't made a movie since "In the Name of the Father) making a comeback.
Leo, while he could also get a chance to prove his talent, can go blow himself in terms of garnering attention. It's ALL about Marty. How any of you can't see that is beyond me. If you think that this movie is more about Leo than it is about Martin Scorsese, than you either have very screwy priorities or you haven't seen Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, Cape Fear (1990,) or Casino. All of which are great films. So, if you haven't seen these, then do it and you may change your perspective. If you have seen these and still give Leo the attention he doesn't deserve, than you need a lesson in respect, my friend. That is all.

Review: Leonardo DiCaprio is the best actor in the world. After this movie I believe he will win many Academy Awards, if not then they dont know what they are doing. This movie seems worthwhle and I agree with Shadi. I believe this is his year. He will rule the box office this fall. Catch me if you can also will be a huge hit. Leonardo is really something. He not only is a good actor but really cares about the environment and that is a really good thing.

Summary: two stars for the effort
Review: Honestly, Leo-Obsessors, it's time you all smelled the air you yourselves project. I don't blame Dicaprio himself of course (though I had read before that he was once caught photographing himself in a photo-booth for an hour... use your own judgement here), but this rediculous idol-worshiping must end. Actors are performers. They love your applause and they accept your love. That's why they're actors. But this bloody Elvis-hunt must be realized at some point -- you all have lives. Maybe you don't believe it true -- maybe some of you live desk jobs, and maybe some of you live behind images and facades -- but life is not worth this. Death as an ally, we all must live realizing just how finite our own existances are. Why care for other peoples' facades so much that we forget we hide behind our own. Though I know little about this movie itself, as every one of you do, I believe, given the cast and the so-far mild presentation, this will be a movie worth seeing. However, knowing nothing about the plot itself, this space ought to be filled in less silly ways. Life is brilliant and wonderful if you allow it to be, and I say this from any perspective, any situation, any location. "Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man's abode." (Thoreau)
