Rating: Summary: Beautiful, brutal, hilarious, heart-breaking... Review: My first viewing of this film left me gibbering for days afterwards. In Mozart and Salieri we see all facets of human nature - good, bad, love, hate, jealousy, worship, niavety, guilt. The film is a roller-coaster ride of emotions for the viewer - ranging from shock at Mozart's crass and obscene childishness to pity at Salieri's realisation of his own mediocraty. This film is a milestone in cinema. Staggering. Full marks to Hulce and Abraham.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining in all ways! Review: Amadeus is by far the best movie I've seen yet! If you like period pieces (let's face it, we all do) get this movie. Often, classical composers seem alien to us or like stuffy old men who wore powdered wigs. Well Mozart's was pink! It's extremely facinating to watch the unusual life of this genius. Amadeus made me appreciate Mozart's music so much more.
Rating: Summary: Amadeus should only be seen with DVD surround sound quality. Review: What an incredible film! From beginning to end director Milos Forman integrates the music of Amadeus perfectly with the story he tells. What tragic irony that Amadeus's music works so perfectly with a film that expresses the passion and destruction of his life. The sound that the DVD produces makes the film come to life in a in a way that video never did before. I found 4 tiny glitches in the disc, but I would trade those glitches any day to experience the film I just saw.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointed in the DVD - better to buy the Video Review: Amadeus is one of my all time favorites. Wonderful costumes, sets, and acting. I own the video but purchased the DVD for improved picture quality. What a mistake. There was no improvement in picture quality and the movie is cut in half, one half on each side of the disk. I can't recommend this DVD, buy the video instead.
Rating: Summary: Though Salieri's music was mediocre, this movie was not. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Its intensity and vigor only add to the story and its characters. Tom Hulce played a magnificent performance as Mozart. It was an absolute breathtaking experience to see and hear this movie. I have always loved classical music especially Mozart and through this movie, I have gained insight into the life of this magnificent and prodigious composer. This is my absolute favorite movie and I encourage everyone who loves music to see this movie!
Rating: Summary: Great movie except for one thing Review: It's too bad a movie of this caliber had to be a flipper. This is the type of movie that sets a mood and tone that shouldn't be disrupted. Beyond that, everything else was great. I loved how the music flowed on my home theater system. The actors were so believable and the story was downright interesting. I wished this movie could have been even longer than it already was because I wanted to see more.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Film Experience Review: This is one of the best translations of the story of the famous composer that I have ever seen. I loved it when it was first released and I love it more now.
Rating: Summary: This movie is a classic Review: I purchased the DVD because I never tire of watching this movie. The quality of the DVD is not up to par and it is on two sides. Beware of the return policy. Had I known you could not return the disc once it's been opened, I would not have purchased the movie.
Rating: Summary: Don't like opera? Think again... Review: I saw this title mainly because I've always liked Mozart's non-vocal music, but this title broadened my horizons. I'd recommend it to anyone who thinks that they *might* like classical music but never got over all the confusing details. The acting is superb, the setting is exceptional, and the story is well told by "Salieri". The director, Forman, also did "Cuckoo's Nest", and it's almost as good as that classic. You owe it toyourself to have this in you collection, even if you aren't a fan of classical music. One caveat: many copies appear to be flippers, but it's a small price to pay.
Rating: Summary: hilarious Review: aside from everything else that is wonderful about this film, what is truly memorable is the side-splitting, delightfully anachronistic performance of Jeffrey Jones as the emperor. like mozart's music, it hits all the right notes.
