Rating: Summary: Must have for a good home theater system Review: This is a great movie, but what impressed me is the quality of the Dolby 3.2 soundtrack. It is absolutely the best demonstration and test of what is great about home theater sound versus stereo. If you love classical music, this soundtrack will absolutely send you into ectasy.
Rating: Summary: "...The greatest composer known to me." Review: "Amadeus" is the most entertaining film I have ever seen! It has absolutely everything that a great movie should: fabulous acting (among other performances: F. Murray Abraham's incredible Academy Award® winning portrayal of Antonio Salieri; Tom Hulce in an equally tremendous performance as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and Elizabeth Berridge as Constanze Mozart); the best music ever composed (mostly Mozart - 'nuff said), brilliantly played by the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields; Peter Schaffer's Academy Award® winning screenplay; spectacular, Academy Award® winning sets and costumes; and a fascinating plot. "Amadeus" so completely fulfills my highest ideal of great cinematic entertainment that it reigns supreme at the top of my list of the greatest films ever produced!
Rating: Summary: beware amadeus Review: Be aware that while the picture quality & sound on Amadeus is exceptionally good - the disc is a 'flipper'. You'll have to turn the disc over 1/2 way through the movie. No reason for this except studio laziness since even Braveheart fits on one disc side. FYI, you also have to flip Riverdance too.
Rating: Summary: Favorite Movie of All Time! Review: We all have different tastes, and this movie happens to be my personal favorite. Mozart was a genius and his mind worked like no other composer. He was also quite difficult, as great minds sometimes are. Amadeus the movie combines humor, the amazing story of this brilliant composer, darkness, sorrow, and the life of Mozart creating a fantastic film. The music of course is so incredible, and the story behind it is something that you should not miss out on seeing. I highly recommend buying this movie if you love laughing, music, biographies, excellent acting, Mozart's era, or just about anything. It is for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Mozart on DVD- what a sound ! Review: Amadeus is best watched and heard on DVD. The sound is clearer so the miraculous music is heard PERFECTLY. The picture is more rich and colorful so you can enjoy every detail of the opulence in Vienna, the elegant costume and opera sceneries. The story is magnificent. Milos Forman's greatest work. We pity and feel terrified by Antonio Salieri. We laugh along with Mozart's famous laugh. Despite the darkness in Amadeus, there is humor. Frau Webber is comedic as Mozart's mother in law. Particularily funny is the scene when she is scolding Wolfgang and her increasingly annoying voice turns into the Queen of the Night's aria from The Magic Flute. The mock opera in the "common" theatre, the Vaudeville is very humorous as well. There are little things that make Amadeus a great film, not excluding the greater things. There is a beauty to the music, the showiness of the Emperor's palace, the opera houses with those blazing chandaliers. DVD makes Amadeus more cinematic and more enjoyable. Sure.. it's an old film.. a lot of people would'nt care for it. But still.. there is a greatness to the film of the fall of the world's greatest composer and the music ! "Music like has never been heard before" Sir Neville Marriner does a glorious work in the soundtrack. The Requiem focused in the end is a masterpiece. The scenes of Mozart's death is awe-inspiring. See it for yourself and enjoy a classic.
Rating: Summary: Must have it in your house Review: Amadeus is not just a movie for fans of his music, or for Academy Award collectors, it is a film for everyone. Children may not be easily included, since it has some adult language. But otherwise it is a masterpiece. Milos Forman has made this film not just a historic/biographical/comedic and dark film, it is an inner look into jealousy and mediocrity. The real star is not Mozart but Salieri, who is "looking from inside the bars of the cage of genius." Salieri is tortured and made insane because for years, his music goes into oblivion while Mozart's lives on for ages. It is sad, we sympathize with him and are horrified by him. This film is'nt entirely factual in some respects.. but it is in many. Mozart did have an affair with an opera singer, there are speculations about the Salieri incident and he was commisioned a Requiem by someone mysterious. It is entertaining. Hear the music.. laugh (it is funny ) Frau Webber is a riot as his mother in law. Wonder on poor Salieri's fate and be awed by the music of a legend. Get the soundtrack... Fantasy Records with the Great Sir Neville Marriner conducting.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest movies of all times... Review: I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed this film. While it is around 160 minutes long every second of that is used to it's fullest. The characters are developed and the audience comes to care for them and fear their enevidable hardships and downfalls. One finds themself angered along with Salieri with God, giddy and consumed with Mozart, and entranced with Stanzi, his childlike, yet shrewd bride. And who couldn't help but laugh when Mozart let loose his absurd giggle at the most inopportune moment? I must not forget to meantion the costume! It was utterly fantastic. The ornate dresses and hair of the women, the styled suits of the men. Haha, and pink and green wigs! While I am not a great fan of opera I was pulled into the beauty of the ones in the movie, the way the the music was described and the perfect choreography. When one heard how Mozart described the opening of "Figaro" they were pulled in and excited with him. One of the greatest lines was in that scene; "I apologize Your Majesty. I am a vulgar man--but I assure you, my music is not." Ahh! The passion! And as an added bonus it was funny as well. Everybody, go out and getit today! -Eli@
