Rating: Summary: Funny, entertaining and heartwarming Review: No one could have done as good of a job as Tom Hanks. If you were a teenager in the 60's you will enjoy the memories of the events of the decade, It's amusing how they were able to have Forest Gump be part of most every major event of the 60's. Then again it also shows how even the less fortunate can make an impact on society. Great story, leaves you feeling good and sad at the same time
Rating: Summary: Very funny, great special effects, sure to be a classic Review: This movie is great. It ties in many of the major events of American history and "Americana" to the life of a simple, but caring and understanding, boy/man played by Tom Hanks. Hanks takes you on a journey through his life, and therefore, through American history, as seen through the eyes of a mildly mentally retarded man. The story is constantly changing and really can suprise you with funny antecdotes that somehow were part of Gumps simple existance. Truely a great movie. I think this will become a classic. Sould be on the shelf of any movie buff
Rating: Summary: Forrest "Dump" is more appropriate Review: Good, but in a very average way; given the hype it should have been a lot better. Hanks is ok, even if the act does get a bit old after awhile. Sinise, however, is excellent as the embittered Capt. Dan
Rating: Summary: Creative movie, overrated Review: Forrest Gump was a creative movie, and was well directed. It was held together by Tom hanks. It is the story of an autistic person who goes through life and sees it from a different perspective. A lot of the movie is very imaginative and thoughtful. However, having said that I must say that it is an overrated movie. I could not believe that it won the best picture. For an intelligent person this movie was a travesty with the way they connect all the events together. They connected the storyline with patriotism to win over the minds of the people. Oh, what a tangled web we weave. The movie has all the great American values, patriotism, romance etc. But when it comes down to the bottomline, there was no great screenplay, or character roleplay except for one person. The storyline was a fantasy, which is OK in a movie, but I rate the quality of a movie by how many times I can watch it over. I cannot see this movie multiple times, it is not that interesting.Granted Tom Hanks is an outstanding actor, probably one of the best, but given that "Shawshank Redemption" came that year and won nothing, I cannot understand the minds of the academy. As intelligent acting and storyline goes that movie outshines this one anyday, though it is unrealistic. I felt that Morgan Freeman deserved the Oscar that year. My prediction is that this movie will gradually disappear from people's minds except for the diehards. It does not have the class of a movie that stands the test of time. To people who have not seen the movie, I suggest renting it before buying it.
Rating: Summary: The best Review: Tom Hanks at his best. A very intelligent comedy and one of the best reviews of 20th century America in a very light hearted way. Fully deservant of the shower of Oscars it received. Must have!
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies ever made.... Review: A truly brilliant, groundbreaking movie, this is one of my all time favourites.
Hugely popular, and winner of many deserved Oscars, that is rightly so.
Much has been written about this movie, so I will just add my little extras:
a/ Superb jokes, some overt, some very subtle
b/ Wonderful use of digital photography/ computers etc to insert " Forrest " into historical television footage.
c/ Beautiful settings, I especially love at the end of the movie where Forrest is describing his many places that he has been, ie running through the desert, the night sky in Vietnam, the evening on his Shrimp boat.
d/ Great casting, Gary Senise is brilliant as Leiutenant Dan, Sally Field is wonderful as Forrests mum. All the actors and actresses were great!
e/Some of best acting ever seen in any movie by Tom Hanks
f/ One of the most brilliant collections of 60s and 70s music used on a movie soundtrack.
I could go on and on, but really you should see this for yourself if you haven't seen it yet.
And if you have seen it, hey watch it again, you know you will enjoy it!
Really one of the best movies of all time
Thanks for reading
Rating: Summary: 99% of Life Is just Showing up ... Review: Or words to that effect; I think it was Woody Allen who said that. and Forrest Gump embodies the "Just turn up" principle; that is pretty much the only "point" to this film.
There does not seem to be any statement in this film that Forrest has a purpose. He just follows his nose, and things happen. Maybe if more people did this, they might enjoy what they have in life, and get more out of the precious moments we have in life.
Without a doubt, this film is superbly entertaining. If you have a good script, and a Great cast, then all you need is a Zemeckis to create visually good material, and masterful special effects to back it all up.
The end result is that a very moving, dramatic, funny, and ultimately emotional film will result.
if you find something deep and meaningful in this film, then good for you, and if you find something else in this film, I would question why you would watch a film; at its heart, this film is superbly crafted. It cannot but be with the people who created this work.
The imposed meanings that some reviewers assert tell more about the reviewers than they do about the film.
Highly recommended as great entertainment.
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate feel-good movie. Review: Forrest Gump is a boy who is a little bit slower than other boys. Yet he grows into a man who achieves an amazing amount in his life. Is this because he was bullied as a child, because of the way he was brought up, because of his friend Jenny or is it just who he is? I was left pondering this after the movie.
This story gives us hope. If Forrest Gump achieved so much then why can't we achieve our own dreams, whatever they may be. There is a lot of tradegy throughout the film but you still leave the cinema feeling good. Although the story is totally unbelievable, you still find yourself connecting with Forrest at different points in the story. The film ends by leaving Forrest with his greatest challenge yet. To be a good father to his son.
