Summary: Edward Scissorhand is great !
Review: This is one of my favorite movies. Johnny Depp is great as Edward. The movie gets very funny at some times. Especialy when all the neighbors wanted Edward to give their dogs, haircuts. The end is creepy, exciting and a bit sad. I would highly recomend this movie.

Summary: Bittersweet and Lyrical...
Review: I could write forver about my feelings on this movie, my emotional reaction the first time I saw it or the thirtieth... to save time this is all I'll say... The word visionary so often preceeds the name Tim Burton, to the point that it's impact dims; this is unfortunate, because the man is so obviously a genius... To make an adult fairy tale believable, to encapsulate entirely split worlds and encompass "fantasy" and "reality" so smoothly... this film is a coup, and I don't use the word lightly. Johnny Depp is startlingly effective; a funny and heartbreaking performance in which he only has 38 lines, a large percentage of them almost monosyllabic... Dianne Weist and Alan Alda are perfect... Winona Ryder's sizeable range and perfect pitch are given less to do here, but she doesn't miss a single note playing Kim, a character who is very complex but slightly "against type" given Ryder's usual choices... Caroline Thompson's script (from the story by Burton) captures the essence of satire and heartbreak withour ever slipping into cliche, with the possible exception of the charactarization of Kim's boyfriend; even there it seems there were few other options as to how to write him (check out her amazing novel "First Born"). However, the film is boosted from great to near perfection by Danny Elfman's best score, which in every way reflects the darkness and light of this beautifully sad story. On a personal note - - for large portions of my teenage years I percieved myself (whether I actually was or not) as out of place, existing in a world where I didn't fit... From these feeling Burton, Thompson, and especially Depp have fashioned this tale... practically everyone who has ever felt themselves at odds with their surroundings (and who hasn't?) can find something to relate to in this story... the natures of innocence, intolerance, fear, conformity, violence, acceptance, misunderstanding, futility, but most importantly (yes) love are subtely yet dramatically realized. A modern classic, a film that almost saved my life and brings tears to my eyes again... if it doesn't move you nothing will...

Summary: .
Review: A colorful, unique blend of fairy-tale and scathing adolescent bitterness, which will serve as a kind of emotional pinnacle to anyone who has ever felt alienated and out-of-place (and who likes Tim Burton films, I suppose.) It's a movie that I can imagine numerous valid criticizms for, but to me it is a gem; I think if this movie doesn't at least inspire your pity, you should probably be dragged out into the street and shot.

Summary: JOHNNY DEPP PROVES TO EVERYONE THAT HE IS A SUPERB ACTOR!
Review: JOHNNY DEPP AND TIM BURTON(LEGENDARY DIRECTOR) SHOW THE WORLD WHAT THE WORD "IMAGINATON" MEANS. JOHNNY DEPP WAS THE PERFECT ACTOR TO PLAY THAT LOVABLE CHARACTER "EDWARD".

Summary: A Darkhorse movie
Review: Edward Scissorhand's displays wonderfully people's reactions to another's actions. We judge everyone and never really hold anyone in one specific place. However, Ryder's character analyzes and strives to learn about Edward, finally finding all his goodness and most importantly, her love for him. The scene where Ryder dances in the ice shavings was a brilliant addition to the movie; a perfect grace. I don't believe this movie has been recognized enough. Bar none, its one of the best movies of all time.

Summary: UTTERLY POIGNANT. A MASTERPIECE OF THE ECCENTRIC MIND.
Review: "Edward Scissorhands" is beautifully haunting allegory of suburbia. Depp and Price's performances are deeply impressive in that they effect such a believable father/son relationship. Edward's innocence and anguish over not being able to touch his embodiment of perfection (Wynona Rider) are tear-jerking. An excellent date movie and one to watch around Christmas time.

Summary: A beautiful modern classic, with one slight flaw
Review: Ever since I saw "Batman" as a six-year-old, I've been very interested in Tim Burton's work. With time, I've seen how "Edward Scissorhands" and "Ed Wood" (and if the trailers are any indication, "Sleepy Hollow")make his Batman films pale in comparison. So many elements come together well in Edward Scissorhands, from the production design, the costumes, the music, and an excellent performance from Depp, that we are left with a film like very few others today. Given how unique the film is, I was a little upset that Burton made Edward's foil a drunken teenager. I know that he was probably attempting to show the cold reality of life, but to make it so sudden was a little hurtful to the film. I thought that "Babe: Pig in the City" did a better job of showing a dark atmosphere as it did so throughout its running time. But enough with nitpicking. This wonderful film has to many positives to lose even one star from me. Diane Weist and Alan Arkin are both very amusing as Edward's surrogate parents, and Vincent Price, in his last theatrical appearance, makes true movie magic in his brief but very appropriate appearance here. Damn the people who keep the Dr. Phibes films from rerelease on video. I hope this film gets a DVD release soon, with a possible commentary from Burton. I would also like to see his 1982 short "Vincent" available somewhere, though this probably wouldn't be the place since it's a Disney cartoon, but hey, the House of Mouse wasn't thoughtful enough to include it on the DVD release of "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
