Summary: Towanda Strikes Again
Review: On DVD that is. When I heard this movie was coming out on DVD, I was more than overwhelmed. I had so badly been wanting to own this movie, and now I do. Don't think once about buying this movie, it'll keep you wanting to watch again and again. It gives you a sense of comedy and drama without ever dropping either category.

Evelyn Couch (The always wonderful Kathy Bates) has a pretty routine life. Go to marriage counseling, make her husbands dinner, and go to bed. That is until she meets Ninny (Jessica Tandy) an elderly lady living in a rest home near her house. Evelyns curiosity is growing as Ninny tells a story about two women she knew in time. The story is about stubborn Idgie (Mary Stuart-Masterson) who has stayed away from home ever since her older brothers death. Her and Ruth (Mary Louise-Parker) a family friend come to visit for the summer start to hit it off, and son become the best of friends. While Idgie the bee charmer collects honey, Ruth gets out more and learns to have fun. As the two become even closer, they decided, why not start a business? In the sleepy town of Whistle Stop, Ruth and Idgies cafe shall add a little spice to the town, and even attract some out of town visitors. Whether welcome, or unwelcome, the customers will play a big role in the story. Through everything, abusive husbands, Ku Klux Klansman, Trains, and deaths, the two will stay close friends. Evelyn is soon also giving herself more self respect, and is coming back more and more to hear Niny's story, even becoming part of the story herself. Ninny and Evelyn soon become close friends too, and learn the valuable lesson to like things while they last.

Impeccable. Everything about this movie is flawless. With the directors commentary on the DVD, you find out new information about the film that interesting, and funny. You even get Sipseys recipes from the Whistle Stop Cafe itself. 5 stars for a movie to be cherished forever.

Summary: This film is wonderful, engaging, funny...a masterpiece!
Review: Here is a perfect movie. The actors (Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, and Jessica Tandy in particular) are credible, rounded, warm, funny, absolutely perfect. The plot is (in its way) epic, involving a long time span, with significant developments in both past and present. It is a total must-see!

This film too offers tons of memorable moments. It will also supply those quotes to use when one tires of the usual Gone With the Wind or Wizzard of Oz items. You will NOT forget "Towanda," or "The Secret's in the Sauce" in any near future.

This movie is a masterpiece, and a masterful presentation of some most significant lives, and of a way of life which should have survived.

Summary: One of the best movies ever.
Review: I have watched this movie countless times and it's just as good every single time. Anyone who hasn't seen this doesn't know what they're missing.

Summary: Fried Green Tomatoes- Review
Review: People always find friends in weird and mysterious ways. In this movie Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates) befriends Ninny Threadgood (Jessica Tandy) by a chance meeting in a nursing home. Ninny tells Kathy a story of love, friendship and mystery. She tells of Idgie Threadgood (Mary Stuart Masterson) and Ruth (Mary-Louise Parker). Threadgood helps Kathy understand the meaning of life and to live it to its fullest, never taking a day for granted. After talking with Ninny for a while and hearing her stories of how Idgie didn't let anyone push her around, Evelyn goes home to her husband Ed and tells him she wants them be more intimate. She starts working out, decorating the house and becomes more outgoing. Evelyn also learned that she shouldn't be afraid of sickness or dying. In the few short times that Evelyn really visited with Ninny, she learned more about how to love and accept herself. I don't think that anyone else had taught Evelyn what Ninny had. I really enjoyed watching this movie because it was an uplifting story that showed what true friendship and honesty really is. The ending of this movie really made me think because when Evelyn went to pick up Ninny at her house they talked for a while, then they walked by Ruth's grave. Evelyn picked up a freshly written card placed on the grave that was written from the "bee charmer" (Idgie) and looked at Ninny finally understanding who she was, Idgie Threadgood. It was a surprising ending to me because I didn't expect that Ninny was really Idgie. I would really recommend this movie to anyone who likes movies about true friends who come help each other through anything.

If you want to see a good movie for the whole family, "Fried Green Tomatoes" is the movie for you. It shows friendship, compassion, humor, laughter, and real life encounters.

The setting takes place in the late 1980's and takes you back in time a half century to the town of Whistle Stop, Alabama.

"Fried Green Tomatoes" is a movie for anyone. It can make the best of us laugh and cry through the entire movie. "Fried Green Tomatoes" is a movie that gives you two different stories within itself. One story takes you back to the 1930's. The other part of the story takes place in the 1980's between Ninny Threadgooda, telling the story of her past to help her new friend Evelyn get her life together.

The frienships made within the movie show that this woman do hold their friendships in very high regards. The friendship in the 1930's would help both women to get through some really tough times. The friendship in the 1980's between Ninny and Evelyn keep these two ladies on track.

I give this movie 5 stars because it is a movie for anyone. Also because it shows how good friends will help a loved one in need of there help at a drop of a hat. This movie is just a well rounded movie, filled with emotion.

Summary: Visit the Whistlestop Cafe
Review: If you haven't seen Fried Green Tomatoes, don't wait, here it is. One of the best films of the 90's, it's one of those films where everything seems to come together seamlessly. Featuring wonderful, underrated performances, particularily by Mary-Louise Parker (Grand Canyon), Mary Stuart Masterson (Some Kind of Wonderful), Jessica Tandy (nominated for an Oscar for this performance) and also noteworthy supporting performances by Gailard Sartain as Ed Couch, Stan Shaw as Big George, Richard Riehle as Reverend Scroggins, Nancy Moore Atchison as the youngest Idgie, Raynor Scheine as Curtis Smoote and Chris O"Donnell, in one of his first film performances, shines as Buddy Threadgoode. The film, based on the novel by Fanny Flagg (aka the actress Patricia Neal-remember her in Hud?) interweaves tales which illuminate the hopes, dreams, struggles, heartbreak and loves of several women; the stages of understanding women go through in consciousness raising; and four stages of a womans life: childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. Although it's definitely a chick flick, men are, or should be, interested in what makes women tick and here's a good start. Directed by Jon Avnet (Up Close & Personal), music by Thomas Newman, cinema photography by Geoffrey Simpson (Little Women) and co-written by Fanny Flagg and Carol Sobieski (Oscar nomination for best adaped screenplay).

Summary: An Interesting Movie!
Review: I never read the book this movie was based on but we rented Fried Green Tomatoes and it was an interesting movie with some fine acting performances from Kathy Bates, Jessica Tandy, Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker. It is a quirky movie that is set in the South and is about the friendship of a unhappy housewife played by Kathy Bates who befriends a woman in a senior citizens home played by Jessica Tandy who tells her about the life and adventures of two Depression era friends played by Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker and is a good movie that I found interesting.

Summary: Kathy Bates best
Review: This is a great movie. I think it is Kathy Bates best movie and I love Jessica Tandy in it. Is Jessica the older Mary Stuart Masterson? Tandy is telling Bates about her life when she was young and what was going on in her town when she was young. Wonderful movie.

Summary: On boy, oh boy, oh boy
Review: This movie gets high marks in every category for faithfulness to the original book by Fannie Flagg. Kathy Bates plays an ignored wife just trying desperately to get her husband's attention. She visits her mother-in-law at a nursing home, but the nasty old woman throws things at her and she retreats to the community room to eat candy from her purse - and there she meets a lonely old woman (Jessica Tandy, so you just KNOW how good this movie will be!) whose tale of a lifelong friendship between Izzy and Ruth (Mary Stuart Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker) begins to help Bates change her life.
The story of Izzy and Ruth is told in flashback, back to the days during the Depression when they ran The Whistlestop Café by the side of the train tracks in a No Place little town in Georgia. The relationship of the two women to each other, to Ruth's son and her abusive ex-husband, to the African-American figures who carry epic roles, and to the families involved on both sides of the color line. It's a story of triumph over huge odds, of love and friendship, of personal growth and ultimately of dignity.
And it's funny as all get-out. Highest, highest rating.

Summary: A wonderful movie, quite close to the book
Review: I love this movie. Being a southern belle myself, it would be a shame to say that I didn't like it. I recently finished the book and loved it. It was quite close to the book and even when it wasn't, it made up for it with some great humor. I'm from Alabama and have eaten at the cafe`. However, it's not called the "Whistle Stop Cafe." In fact, there isn't even a town called Whistle Stop. The town is really called Irondale and the cafe has the same name. But, everything else is pretty much true.
