Summary: More Than a movie
Review: I am a GP doctor & i rememer when i studied psychiatry reading alot info about schizophrenic patients & how they suffer from delusions & hallucinations that cannot be imagined by normal people & even doctors who treat these poor people ... this movie showed me for the first time in my life what kind of suffering such patients have ... the extraordinary performance by Russel Crow showed me exactly the delusions & how they resemble the truth which is exactly written in medical books.

This movie is a shock & it's a pity that Russel Crow lost the oscar for his genius performance ... i highly recommend this movie for anyone who want to see for real how the poor sick patients with schizophrenia suffer the psychotic symptoms ... I did't know about Professor Nash before ... but i know now ... I know the story of a great man who struggled aganist his sickness to reach the highest prize that any man can imagine ... The Nobel prize.

This movie is a MUST see ... usually i buy only DVD movies that i think from my point of view they are classics ... this movie is part of my collection now ... & as a collector i say :" This movie should be in the library of any movie collector, with movies like The Godfather, Indiana Jones Trilogy ... ect "

Summary: Best Picture? I don't think so...
Review: I'd read the book previous to seeing the movie, and like all books that are made into movies, a lot is changed. The story is still compelling and Russell Crowe is very good, but if you come to this movie expecting the insights revealed in the book, you'll be a bit disappointed. (By the way, if you watch this and then "Training Day," you'll see that Denzel Washington DID indeed deserve the best actor Oscar!) As someone who works on a daily basis with people with serious mental illnesses (they have the illness, they are NOT the illness!), including schizophrenia, this movie just doesn't quite ring "true." Crowe's performance seems forced and, having dealt with hundreds of mentally ill clients, let me tell you that schizophrenia tends to do much more damage to lives than it did to Crowe's. Maybe his strong support system of friends and a loving wife made the difference. Who knows? The movie is nice as Crowe struggles back to a functional lifestyle, but the 20 years he struggles to regain his life are condensed to about 10 minutes in the movie, and more should have been made of those years. After "Rain Man" set mental illness back about 20 years in the public's mind, it's good to have something at least semi-positive again. The book was very good. The movie was OK. If you're lazy, watch the movie. If you want more insight, read the book...

Summary: A Beautiful Mind
Review: Having spent the last 35 years working with schizophrenic patients and viewing/reading much of the information put out by the media, I think that this movie presented some important information in a positive manner. John Nash's life-long struggle with schizophrenia was realistically and carefully portrayed by Russell Crowe. So many movies and articles are very negative and/or distorted concerning mental illness. Schizophrenia is now considered a physical illness just as diabetes, high blood pressure and other chronic disorders. It is time for the public to learn more about what is possible especially in light of the new medications now available, and this movie was done with care and compassion. It is entertaining as well as thought provoking. Many people, without any medical background, have seen this movie more than once. Ron Howard did an excellent job communicating to the public the life of this brilliant man. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: One of the best movies I've ever seen
Review: A Beautiful Mind(winner of the 2001 Oscar for Best Picture) is an excellent movie in every way: acting, directing, cinematography, and the score.
A Beautiful Mind starts out with Russel Crowe as John Nash starting school at Princeton. He is struggling to invent an original idea in mathematics, because that is the only way that he ever sees himself mattering in his mind.
John succeeds, and five years later he is a professor at Princeton. There he meets a student, Alicia, that he falls in love with and marries.
At this point in the story, John's sickness progresses is diagnosed. Then things really get bad for Alicia and John.
Overall, A Beautiful Mind is a beautiful and perfect movie- in every way.

Summary: My Two Cents
Review: Many a source material have lent themselves quite admirably to the cinematic arts. Think of any successful page-to-screen translation (it'll come to you). Sadly, however, this adaptation of the book of the same name could only leave the viewer wanting rather than entertained or enthralled. Whether it was the leaden pace, the stilted, almost comical dialogue or the complete absence of any discernible direction I cannot say with any degree of certainty, having neither the desire nor the $3.50 to rent this movie. However, I can state with some assurance that as an individual who has experienced far more than his fair share of emotional, physical and financial disappointment that this film, like almost everything that has transpired in my life, would undoubtedly fall far short of even my meager, ever dwindling expections....

Summary: Love, Suspense, Action, and Economics - All in Once Place!
Review: This movie, the life story of s mathematical genius and nobel prize winner, is an acclaimed film featuring love, genius, action, and suspense. And that is just in the first few minutes! The movie starts out slowly, and the viewer actually sees how this man discovered a theory that shaped modern economics. The viewer gets to see him fall in love and then watch him grow as a person as he battles his mental illness.

I absolutely loved this movie and would recommend it to anybody. The movie is suspenseful, and the story line takes a drastic change midway through - it is not what you think. This movie is not a biography, nor is it a documentary. It is an excellent dramatic work portraying a man that overcomes his illness to rise to greatness.

This movie is well worth the purchase price, especially since the DVD version comes with a bonus disk. It will give you a sense of awe it is so good. And, it is one of the few movies that is just as good - if not better - the second time you see it.

Summary: A Masterpiece
Review: When I watched this movie in the theater, I couldn't help but cry as I had a slight insight as to what it is like being schizophrenic. Three of my friends from junior-high school were diagnosed with schizophrenia within a span of about three weeks of each other, both in very advanced stages. This movie was incredibly moving and I recommend it to anyone!

Summary: A Beautiful Mind
Review: I am not a fan of Russell Crowe, so when I decided to go see the film, I was a bit apprehensive. I went into the film, not expecting much- but I left the theatre mesmerized. The characterization was WONDERFUL. Russell Crowe sucks his audience into the plot. Jennifer Connelly is also wonderful, as is Ed Harris. Ron Howard's direction is also superb. Don't miss the opportunity of seeing this film, because it is amazing.
