Summary: It was okay.
Review: This movie was great but had it's bad points. I thought the acting in the movie was actually really good. Nice and believable. The plot of the story kinda seems plotless at first. But actually had a nice twist on the end. I had a fun time making jokes in between silent scenes in this movie (there are alot of them) I made the theater crack up all night and it was great. The movie isn't bad but isn't great either. Wrong Turn or House of 1000 corpes was better but this movie had a nice plot and a great twist on the end. I would probably buy it depending on my mood. Who knows but it was great and bad at the same time. I guess you could say....it was alright. Wait for a rental.

Summary: Straight Jacket
Review: After having just seen "Gothika" my first reactions is HUH? Why did Halle Berry, Robert Downey and Penelope Cruz do this film? What did Director Mathieu Kassovitz (Amelie's main squeeze) see in this material that does not in any way manifest itself in the finished product?
"Gothika" is an unwitting throwback to the perhaps yes/perhaps no intentionally funny William Castle movies of the 50's and 60's: films like "The Creeper" and "The Tingler" (Castle supposedly had vibrating devices installed under all the theater seats!!). Unfortunately, this movie is in no way out for the laughs it inevitably gets; which is pretty sad in that there is so much good material floating around that begs to be filmed and yet this poor excuse for a film is foisted on us, probably because of Berry's marquee value.
I would think that Gothika will slink into that netherworld of the Midnight Movie with audience members dressing in insane asylum drag and shouting back the dialogue at the fading images of Berry, Cruz and Downey as they vainly try to pump some life into this still born mess of a movie.

Review: Let's see...Halle has down a political satire ("Bullworth"), a biopic ("Introducing Dorothy Dandridge"), a ghetto comedy (B.A.P.S.), a Spike Lee film ("Jungle Fever"), a sci-fi adventure ("The X-Men" duo), a Bond film ("Die Another Day") and an Oscar winner ("Monster's Ball"). So, it was about time that she tackled a psychological thriller.Well, at least, she can say she tried. This misguided attempt into "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others" territory just doesn't hold up. There are few thrills or suspense; the dialog is stilted; and it's too short for much development. As valiant as the actress attempts to bring something out of the limp script, the viewer keeps longing for more. Her supporting cast fares none the better, with parts assayed by Penelope Cruz, Charles S. Dutton, Robert Downey, Jr., and Bernard Hill not very filling. Only does John Carroll Lynch as the town sheriff get to flex his muscle, literally and figuratively. To add further insult to injury is the commentary supplied by director Kassovitz and director of photography Labitique. The pair talks as if they have made the next, great thriller, a la Hitchcock. Gentlemen, I know Hitchcock...and ya'll ain't Hitchcock.

Summary: Unsatisfying
Review: Gothika starts off well and seems to be establishing a truly unique story, then quickly spirals downhill into a boring and cliched ghost story. I was unfortunately expecting something great, especially with the incredible Halle Barry in the lead, but was utterly disappointed in the outcome. It's worth a watch, but ultimtately ends up as unmemorable and unsatisfying. The ending is especially ridiculous.

Summary: Well I liked it...
Review: Gothika may not be for everyone, but it is a good movie, and it is clear that the writers and director put a lot of effort into it. Halle Berry plays one of her best roles yet as Dr. Miranda Grey, who assumes a career at a mental hospital. On the way home from work, Grey encounters a strange girl standing in the middle of the road - and eventually winds up in the cell of the hospital she works at! Things turn from bad to worse when she learns that she has murdered her husband - and she is led on a wild goose chase to discover what really happened the night before, and what is the purpose of the strange images she is encountering. I don't really classify this as a horror movie, because I wasn't really scared at all when watching it - it's more of a dark sci-fi film, much like The Ring or The Others. I can't give Gothika 5 stars however, because it has little replay value. It's a refreshing experience, but is not to be seen too often. But if you're looking for a good rental, Gothika is perfect for you.

Summary: A Thriller
Review: Miss Halle plays a prison psychiatrist called Miranda. She is happily married. Her husband is played by Charles S. Dutton and he is the warden of the prison that she works in. Halle's character is treating the patient Chloe, played by Penelope Cruz, that sees strange things and beileves it is the work of the devil. One stormy night when she is on her way home from work, she looks up fom putting her cell phone down and suddenly sees a girl standing in the middle of the road. In order to avoid driving into her, she vears her car and drives into a tree. She tries to help the girl, but then the screen fades to black. She wakes up being a patient in her own prison and being acused for murdering her husband.
Miranda must try to remember what happened to her and how she eneded up as a patient in the very prison she use to work at. Accused of killing her husband. While incarcerated she will see the girl that she avoided hitting with her car many times again.
Seeing everything from Miranda's point of view. We start the movie seeing the Doctors point of view. And of course we shift to the view from the patient's. Is she sane and being framed...or did she murder her husband and is truly insane.
In this movie we see that Halle Berry does know how to act. Though a good thriller, it is not the horror picture the previews tried to make us think it was.

Review: Halle Berry a prison psychiatrist, Charles S. Dutton, Robert DowneyJr. plays her collegue, Penelope Cruz as an inmate at the prison and a patient of Halle's who plays a psychologist/pschiatrist. Overall a very good movie! This movie has many twists and turns Halle ends up an inmate at the very prision she works at. Her colleges all think she's went insane. An invisible force assults her against her jail cell wall, floor, and furnishings, they assume she is trying to commit suicide when they see this on their security cameras. Messages mysteriously appear written on a wall "in blood", stating "NOT ALONE!" Halle became injured during a routine shower with her fellow inmates. Her arm cut numerous times over which they assume she did to herself. Halle ends up escaping with the help of one true friend in an effort to unravel the mystery and clear her name.
If you are in to thrillers I recommend this one.

Summary: A good Thriller not Horror movie
Review: Miss Halle plays a prison psychiatrist called Miranda that is living a good live with her husband Charles S. Dutton that is the owner of the prison that she works in, Halle is treating the patient Chloe (Penelope Cruz) that sees strange things. Everything seems normal til one dark stormy night when she's driving home and suddenly sees a girl standing in the middle of the road, to avoid driving into her, she eventually drives into a tree and after that accident everything turns black. She wakes up being a patient in her own prison and being acused for murdering her own husband. While in the prison she must try to remember the truth and try to escape, but she will see the girl many times again and see will see Chloe's problems from a closer point of view that makes her impatient to find out if there could be a connection or what actually happened after her memory loss. While the movies runs, things are getting brighter and brighter. Can she escape, Is she Mad? what happened to her husband? Who is the girl? What happened to Chloe?
It's not that scary but exciting, a typical thriller. I don't know either why it's called Gothika, but the movie itself is far from as bad as some people said. I got it on DVD and did enjoy watching it, I have seen better but it's defenitely not bad and it makes you thinking while watching it how to put the peaces together. 3/5
