Summary: Good movie - disappointing ending...
Review: I loved this movie. I'm not a historian, so I can't comment on the historical accuracy of this movie, but I kept thinking to myself that THIS is why JFK was shot. What a commotion!

The movie really was a suspensful thriller. My wife and I were engrossed in the details. It didn't appear to be a movie where the researchers just went to a few sources and put their literal research on film - they put heart into it.

If you're interested in historical movies, you should try this. Costner's accent is horrible, and the movie's end probably could have been articulated better, but it's still great.

Summary: 13 Days Film Budget Issues
Review: The actual movie was a drag and some times in the film if you watch the top part of the screen you could see the microphones and the accent that one guy had was annoying. It needed more action to grab my attention.

Summary: What real leadership is like.
Review: True, the film is long and the accents are annoying and phony, but truth (more or less) is more interesting than fiction.

Thirteen Days shows how important it is to have someone smart in the White House. Someone who is a student of history and has learned its lessons. Can you imagine George Jr. handling the Cuban missle crisis? Its unthinkable.

Summary: Tremendous in every way
Review: I cannot say enough about how well this movie is made, both the theatrical release and this amazing DVD. The extra features that are available are nothing short of extraordinary. I felt that I had experienced this actual crisis in person, it was that good and the interviews by many interested people from that era add an extra reality to the DVD. The acting is superb, especially by those who played the President and Bobby Kennedy. Its hard to believe how overlooked this film was by the Academy. I hope that people will view this film, since it is not only a great movie, but also a lesson on the virtues of restraint in this technological age. One of the best. I also liked Costner how knows a good story and did a great job acting and producing.

Summary: Gripping movie of an on--edge-of-your-seat real life event
Review: Some would argue that during those 13 days in October 1962, humanity faced its gravest challenge. In fact, the world was gripped at the edge of its seat, awaiting what seemed like a no-win situation. Virtually everyone thought that global nuclear exchange was imminent. Yet somehow, some way, cooler heads managed to prevail and the world was saved.

Thirteen Days is one of those underrated movies that managed to capture the terror and drama of those two weeks. You could feel the tension build up in the back rooms, and the movie makers used modern special effects just in the right amounts to show some of the military action at the time (mostly in the form of reconnaissance flights) to keep the film flowing and entertaining.

The DVD is very well made, being New Line's first Infinifilm Edition. New Line has always been known to produce outstanding titles on DVD, and this is just one step beyond even their already great track record. The extra features and commentaries, as well as historical data are all welcome on this DVD. Add to that a very crisp, anamorphic transfer plus a well-balanced full 5.1 soundtrack (with plenty of .1 LFE during the more action sequences), gritty, gripping music... all in all this makes for a great film, despite some of its historical inaccuracies (which were minor, and done more for flow than anything else).

This is a highly recommended DVD for any history buff or movie buff.

Summary: The world was on the brink of disaster...
Review: After finishing "Thirteen Days" all I could do was sit there and think to myself, "Oh Wow! Oh Wow! Oh Wow! We were in the middle of a conflict war that could easily have escallated into global nuclear war!" I don't know if I blinked all the way through the movie.

This movie is, without a doubt, the must-see, must-have video about the Cuban missle crisis. "Thirteen Days" took me back to my early childhood in New Orleans, LA. Though I do not remember the actual missle crisis myself, I do recall having missle drills in my elementary school during the mid-1960s, and I grew up amidst the attendant threat of nuclear war.

"Thirteen Days" is 5-star drama, based on actual historical events about real people facing real situations. And Kevin Costner and crew did an outstanding job portraying what was one of the defining moments in United States History. It did an excellent job of showing many of the conflicting opinions and actions surrounding the crisis. After the movie I thought to myself about how easy it would have been for JFK to act on the advice of his military advisors. Thank goodness he did what he did.

The movie uses a technique of shifting from color to B/W footage to underscore the timeframe and stark reality of situations being portrayed to great effect.

This top-flight movie will be enjoyed by any viewer -- history buff or not. I recommend this movie highly. Viewers should be aware that the reason for the PG-13 rating is the presence of sporadic, stress-triggered foul language (though it is not as foul as is found in most R-movies).

5-stars for the storyline, acting, and dramatic impact. Don't miss "Thirteen Days"! If you're wondering about whether to watch this movie, don't wonder -- watch it!!

Summary: A gripping movie and excellent acting...
Review: This is a factual movie at least for the most part and even though you realize that it turns out well in the end I found myself awestruck at how close we actually came to war with Russia.

The acting is excellent and it is interesting to see many people you still hear about today portrayed in the movie. The movie is one that grabs you and holds on to you until the very end. It is obviously predictable since it is based on real events but unless you know a lot about the Cuban Missile Crisis you will still find it a very interesting history lesson.

Summary: Brilliant political drama
Review: Thirteen Days captures a slice of history and lets us feel its tension, its fragility, and in the end, the triumph of steady, searching rationality over fear and aggression. We follow JFK as he negotiates his course through a perilious series of competing choices and opinions - subject to the greatest pressures, but with grim resolve, looking for a way to avoid the precipice. The film gives a sense of history having been forged, of greatness of character and analysis steering the world, by the finest margin, past disaster.

The cast is excellent and succeed in bringing to life the inner world of the Kennedy Whitehouse. The actor playing RFK is an amazing recreation - both in appearance and persona: aggressive, highly self confident, but in command a penetrating intellect and a youngful drive.

This film will very strongly appeal to those interested in realistic, but compelling drama, and in particular, the issues surrounding crisis management (this a text book example). Its high time this story has been this treatment: its impossible to imagine a better version of it ever being done.

Summary: If it wasn't for JFK, we wouldn't be here.
Review: As this film points out, JFK kept a leash on General Curtis "Bomb Them Out Of Existence" Lemay and went around the Washington power structure to keep the unthinkable from becoming reality. Lemay confirmed his idiot mentality of "shoot first, ask questions later" by thinking that the Russians wouldn't react if their soldiers(who manned the missile sites) were bombed in Cuba. Lemay became the model for General Jack D. Ripper in "Dr. Strangelove".

If Lemay had his way, most of us would have been vaporized or never born. Todays world would have been a radioactive waste dump with a handful of mutants dressed in decaying rags fighting over the scraps of civilization while encamped at the edges of radioactive craters that used to be Washington D.C., Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, etc.

JFK saved the world.

Summary: Great Historical Film!
Review: This movie runs very smooth for a "long movie" (over 2 hours in length). There are very few if any slow or dragging scenes. I thought it was well put together historical picture. The Historical Figures Biographcal Gallery of the leaders, advisors, military, diplomats and press was a good addition to this DVD. If you enjoy learning the turn of events that occur behind the scenes in historical events then this is a movie I highly recommend. One question haunts me about this picture...Where the heck was Vice Prersident Lyndon B. Johnson or did anybody else notice?????
