Summary: Brilliant! Just absolutely and completely brilliant!
Review: I'm going to tell you why you must pick up this DVD! It is truly a classic! I love everything about it! This movie was so cool! I watched it over and over and now that I own the DVD format, I can flip to the even better parts! The sound and picture quality are outstanding, you really get into the DVD version. I enjoyed the Making-Of Featurette, and I thought that the Theatrical Trailer was neat because I wondered how they'd advertise an NC-17 rated movie on TV.

Former Jesse, on Saved By The Bell, I always had a thing for Elizabeth Berkley. She is such a great actress, and she is great and very believable in this movie! I thought it was funny that her co-workers on Saved By The Bell got to act with her throughout her teen years, and now they get to see the real Berkley! I must say the this movie was great, and it'll go down in history! See this movie! And at Amazon's great price, it's a win win deal!

"SHOWGIRLS", the best movie ever!

-Get this one on DVD! Do it for the sound, do it for the picture, just do it already!

Summary: The 'Valley of the Dolls' of the 1990's
Review: The fact that this movie won so many Razzies when it was released, as well as recognition for being the "Worst Film of the Decade", is reason enough for anyone to add it to their collection. This film, with its banal dialogue and acting (although Gina Gershon steals this movie), is absolutely destined to become a camp classic. The rape scene near the end of the film is gritty, violent, and gratuitous, and is the only part of the film I could really do without. Otherwise I look forward to 2010 or 2020 when this film gets the kind of recognition that 'Valley of the Dolls' has achieved. I'm so psyched it has been deemed worthy of being released on DVD!

Summary: Trash, Sure, But Fun Nonetheless
Review: First, I must say that I am, truly, a lover of bad movies. (In fact, I ordered "Showgirls" on DVD, the same day I ordered "Plan 9 From Outer Space". So, what does that tell you?) Although "Showgirls" has been shunned by the mainstream public, it has gained quite a bit of fame as a cult classic, such as "Plan 9". "Showgirls" became infamous after being slapped with the dreaded NC-17 rating, the scarlet "A", if you will, of the rating system. Does it deserve it? Sure. It is loaded with T&A for those who want it. But for lovers of cinematic cheese, there is plenty to enjoy, such as bad dialogue and mediocre acting.

Well, finally, "Showgirls" has found it's way to DVD, and it is a pretty good release. It makes up for picture quality and sound where it lacks in special features. (I really wanted an audio commentary, so the director could explain what the hell was going on in his mind when he made it. But, hey, maybe on an upcoming Criterion Version. :-]) But, for people, who enjoyed it for the movie it is, I would recommend it. And, for fans of ridiculous turkeys, I would really recommend it, because it is definitely fun.

Summary: SEXY AND ENTERTAINING, A GENRE OF ITS OWN
Review: This movie is in a genre of its own, more raunchy than regular releases, but not explicit enough to get the old x-rating, a sort of updated Busby Berkley dancing movie with 90's style soft porn and anti-hero(ine) characters. It's sexy, entertaining, has a big budget look and the DVD looks great. Certainly, it's is not Citizen Kane, Elizabeth Berkley is not Meryll Streep and the dancing is not Swan Lake. The acting and plot are OK, but not great. However, overall, the movie is vital, entertaining and erotic. I liked the dancing and wanted to see more of the stage shows the movie purports to present. This movie is not for every taste, the story is cynical and the Nomi character is too cold and unappetizing, a virtual psychopath to generate empathy. Only a mental health professional would sympathize with this girl. You might go to bed with her, but only once. Also, the plot lacks direction and the whole enterprise is too long. Still, on DVD you can skip what you don't like. It's unfortunate that the movie censorship rating system makes it difficult to make "in-between" e movies of this type. Are we really better off only with a choice between straight movies or utter sleaze? In the meantime, there is Showgirls and not much else.

Summary: Please Don't Compare in Any Way . . .
Review: Goldie Hawn (giving the new girl a chance to redeem herself... ) in "First Wives Club" along with her equally famousco-stars was boring as was the story. No sparkle as we usually get from Bette et al. "Showgirls", on the other hand (VHS edition) was a lot of fun, and had a surprisingly good soundtrack, especially when the "new girl" makes her entrance with camera following her and music getting louder and more up front as she goes on stage. Obviously, the people who turned their noses up at this film were trying to take it seriously. Come on now! I'm looking forward to checking out the DVD version to see the 2:35 aspect ratio and hoping that the soundtrack is just as good as the tape!

Summary: 3* FOR BERKLEY & GERSHON ; NONE FOR THE STORY
Review: COME ON PEOPLE ! NOBODY GAVE A CHANCE TO BERKLEY.... SHE WAS GOOD, VERY GOOD ! & SHE MUST HAVE A LOT OF GUTS TO START A MOVIE CAREER WITH A ROLE LIKE THIS ONE ; GIVE HER SOME CREDIT ! AS FOR GERSHON ; SHE IS JUST WONDERFUL IN THE B..... ROLE ! BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT VERHOEVEN DID NOT GIVE THEM A GOOD MATERIAL TO WORK WITH ! NOT GOOD AT ALL !

Summary: GARBAGE
Review: This movie is not pulp, camp or even a wildly over-the-top mess - it is simply a revolting and mean-spirited porn film with the backing of a few Hollywood heavyweights. The grotesque violence and human wasteland depicted here never begin to be titillating; instead, they turn your stomach. This might be the most repugnant movie ever made because it portends to carry a message, and fakes redemption. Don't be fooled. This movie, which doesn't only hate women and brutalize virtually anything sexual, is like angry bile, and if you get too close you will get sick.

Summary: Must Be Seen To Be Believed!
Review: A classic. Like an accident on the side of the road, you can't turn your eyes from the screen. I first saw this gem in a theater. I sat there with my mouth hanging open from the beginning to the end. Just when I thought it couldn't get any more garish... IT DID! I was first in line to buy the laser disc and now I can watch my DVD over and over and over again. Not for everybody... but then neither is Beyond the Valley of the Dolls!

Summary: so bad its fascinating
Review: There are bad movies and then there are bad movies which are sobad thier fascinating to watch over and over again.Who knew Verhovencould direct such a diabolical piece of trash? Who would have thoughtBerkley would ever play such a part(Im sure she was trying to distance herself from her Saved By The Bell image)? This movie is fascinating in that its portrayed as a serious drama but it all comes out in a very funny way.Terrible acting all around and a truly bad script. This is the Plan 9 From Outer Space of the nineties.
