Summary: A Cool, Refreshing, Indie Flick
Review: Don't judge a movie by its' cover or its' title. This is very appropriate for this movie. The girl on the front cover is not in the movie and the story isn't a stoner flick, although there is some drug and alcohol usage in the movie (the conversations and views after some consumption of whacky-tobacky and some beer is really funny in this movie, though). This movie was also titled "Freak Talks About Sex" and rightfully so.

For anyone who has recently graduated college (maybe even high school) and is a little lost in direction they want to take in life, can relate to this movie. This is a very laid back movie with funny stories, quotes, interactions with past students, and views about life after college.

Only down point about the movie is that there is some missing information in the plot and its' direction and the story ends sort-of ambiguously (but is this the way the director wanted to leave you feeling; like the main character?). But after all, this is an indie flick. Overall, a cool movie to watch anytime with anyone. The soundtrack for the movie is pretty cool too. Check it out, very worthwhile.

Summary: Pretty good!
Review: I was channel surfing a few nights ago, and the reason that I stopped on this movie was because I recognized the Carousel Center Mall in Syracuse. At first I couldn't believe anybody would ever do a movie in Syracuse, so I continued watching it. After a few minutes, however, I began to like the movie because of the plot. It's a good comedy, and yet has a good story line.

Summary: A Very Enjoyable Movie
Review: One of my favorite actors is Steve Zahn. So I was looking online to see if any movies from him were on television. I saw a movie called "Freak Talks About Sex" airing on HBO around 3:00 in the morning. I decided to watch it and i was blown away at how good this movie was. It just seemed very enjoyable and I could pretty much relate to everything that was going on which kept me interested through out the entire movie. It was a very funny yet touching film and i felt strong elements of that through out the movie. So if your in for a good time and a very down-to-earth movie that can make you laugh and also leave you questioning your life at the end of it then this is a perfect movie for you

Summary: this movie realy hits home
Review: owasco entertainment. you've got to love that. especially if you're an ex-owasco owl. i've never seen a movie that better captures the melancholy of growing up in a small town in cny better than this. this is the best transition from bitter-sweet teen movies into early twenties angst movies you could imagine!!

Summary: A Rare, Little-Known Gem!
Review: Previously released on Cinemax under the far superior title "Freak Talks About Sex," this film is funny, entertaining, and suprisingly moving. David Keenan (Josh Hamilton) represents many young American post-adolescents; trapped, empty, and searching for a meaningful life in the midst of small town suburban hell and a dead-end job at a shopping mall. Steve Zahn is absolutely hilarious as "Freak," and he delivers a performance with more real color and compassion than I've seen in any of his mainstream films. Keenan's journey--a summer in Syracuse, NY with Freak--is a very familiar one, as is the broken heart that prevents him from moving on with his life. Heather McComb is cute and charming as Nichole, the high school girl who has a crush on Keenan, but also shares his heartbreak. This film is not afraid to take time to explore the serious, introspective moments of genuine sadness that overwhelm us all at this unsure time in our lives. First-time director Paul Todisco manages to capture mood in an astoundingly effective way, and manages to squeeze laughs out of often painful moments. This movie is very funny, all the more so because it plays so authentically; none of it feels contrived. It is a real joy and surprise to experience something so true in an age where most movies don't even make the attempt. I encourage anyone to rent this movie, especially if you come from (or still live in) small town America.

Summary: Believe it, man!
Review: The cover of this video belies the exquisite sensitivity with which this film was shot, and the depth of the performances of its stars. Yes, this movie is hysterically funny and much of the humor comes from rampant drug use and sex talk; but the director's sensibility, and the sensitivity and awareness of the main characters is far more discerning and sophisticated than this genre's status quo. The main character wants and feels more than is comfortable in his given life; and it is that raw and difficult tension that adds dimension and subtlety to this film. I have never before seen the inner struggle for growth be the primary conflict explored in this genre. And here it is skillfully done, without ever losing the humor and fun inherent in its story.

Summary: A Wonderful Film That Will Make You Laugh And Think
Review: This film is a great little discovery. It mixes humor, alienation, drugs, introspection, love, pain, sex, and the meaning of life in a way that'll keep you talking with your friends for days afterwards. It's rare to find a movie that brings together light-heartedness and profundity with such seamlessnes, especially in a first-time director. Paul Todisco takes us inside the world of David Keenan, through his exploits, his failures and his joys...and by the time he's done, were better people because of it. A truly classic depiction of growing up in modern America, Blowin' Smoke (aka Freak Talks About Sex) excels at touching upon what's real in each of us. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Absolutely unbelievable movie.
Review: This is a movie I can watch over & over without ever getting bored. At first, I when I watched it, I found it enjoyable in something of a Mallrats sort of way, mainly because Steve Zahn just blows you away with his humor & stories.

But it is greater than that. The depression that Josh Hamilton is going through is very strong & very real. He is apathetic about most everything, and floats around with his post relationship depression, but does care strongly for his friends Nicole & Freak.

This movie is hypnotic. You find yourself thinking about it long after having seen it. The humor is amazing & it is brilliantly human.

Summary: Ceaselessly hilarious?
Review: Usually Steve Zahn is hilarious - an absolutely underrated gem of a comedic actor (and from Minnesota- yay!).

A few things: the photo of him on the back cover looks like someone's polaroid party shot (and seems to be the budget of the movie too), and the knockout blonde on the box is nowhere to be found in the show!? Nonetheless, I smirked a few times near the beginning hoping it would get better...but it got worse.

Not funny, shallow, like watching someone's home movies of a local loser. What a waste of time and a flop of a role for Steve, better next time I'm sure. I'd rate this down there with "My American Cousin" as one of the worst, aimless movies I've ever seen .
