Summary: Great Movie
Review: This movie is an excellent movie to watch. Even though I'm a boy I really enjoyed this movie. Some people say it explores the mother-daughter relationship, I do not believe that. I believe it focuses on the relationships that parents have with their offspring. Much of what Ann (Natalie Portman) goes through the movie I'm experience right now. It is a great movie to see, boys and girls should see this movie.

Summary: TEARS AND JOY EXPRESSED
Review: this has ought to be the mother/daughter movie of all times. being a daughter in a single parent household, susan sarandon's character reminded me of my mother who makes all the choices for me & is a wacky person in her own well-wanting way. this movie brings a bond between a mother/daughter relationship that is very special and will stay in your hearts forever

Summary: a good movie about a tough subject..
Review: When my mother first saw this movie, she never admited to me that it was a good movie. Infact she told me i should not see it, but of coarse she never gave me a reason. But I did see Anywhere But Here, and I did like it. And slowly, my mom did start to admit she liked this movie, but I think she was afraid to because she knows how much I really want to leave home and go to collage. Susuan Sarandon's character reminds me of my mother in some ways because my mom ALWAYS wants the best of me, and always makes my choices, even if i don't want them. But she's just trying to be a good mother, just like Susun Sarandon's character is trying to be. I enjoyed this movie a lot because it helped me understand my mom. It is a great movie because you laugh, cry, and manage to get caught up in the storyline somehow. I recommend this movie, especially to teenage girls. It really is a good movie for moms and daughters who might think they have a special relationship, but really they do.

Summary: Definitely worth watching
Review: I really liked this movie! The ending was better than the way it ended in the book, although you would get a lot more out of the movie if you read the book first. It's really more of a character study than anything else, and a very good one. The plot is kind of rambling and makes you wonder where it's going--there doesn't seem to be much of a point until the very end--but Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman have great chemistry and both do an excellent acting job. Mostly, this is a wonderful movie, if something of a "chick flick" :-) I recommend it!

Summary: The best mother and daughter movie yet
Review: I am a divorced mom with a 17 year old daughter and we saw this movie the weekend it came out and the way it captured our lives was uncanny. We were laughing outloud the first 10 min. our sides hurt it was so us. Thank you Mr Wang for making this movie and Susan Sarandon you were terrific. It was the first time I actually felt like writing a fan letter. Thank you again for a terrific movie. From driving in the car cross country to living in apartments to having the electricity turned off that was us. Thank goodness times are better---but soon we will be facing the college issue.

Summary: Lack of something
Review: I saw this movie on a flight - I enjoyed it, even laughed and cried... But this is not an unforgettable movie. Probably because the characters are not deep enough and because it is difficult to feel concerned about them, although it is well performed. It typically lacks the necessary spell and charm required to make a good movie, this "little something".

You'll like it, but only during the movie. Once it's finished, you'll forget it very soon.

Summary: Not that bad!
Review: From the director who brought us The Joy Luck Club (Wayne Wang) comes another film about a mother-daughter relationship. Anywhere But Here stars Susan Sarandon as Adele August and Natalie Portman (fresh from Star Wars The Phantom Menace) as the daughter Ann.

Adele is frustrated by the small town life in Bay City, Wisconsin and escapes to Beverly Hills, California, in a second-hand Mercedes accompanied by her very unwilling and pensive daughter. Ann does not want to leave her family and friends behind, and can barely stand her mother, who is flaky, irresponsible and crass, although she means well.

Both mother and daughter tries to start a new life in California - finding a place to stay, going to school, finding a job, getting involved with men (willingly and unwillingly). Along the way, they find themselves in a love-hate relationship with each other and gradually realise they need each other even though they find each other frustrating.

I think this film has a number of good points and well crafted scenes, but overall I found it a bit slow. Certainly it did not grab my attention and focus as The Joy Luck Club, but still this is worth watching.

Summary: Real Life film
Review: The movie can be slow in parts, but overall it is a very good movie because it shows that real life is not all sunshine and smiles.

The movie is about Adele and Anne August who leave there home in Wisconson and move to California. Over the four or five years the film depicts there are highs (not many) and more lows (such as Adeles nephew Benny dieing and her mother having a stroke) and alot of attitude for Anne about how much she does not like her mom and how she wishes that she were anywhere than where she was.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Hidden Gem
Review: "And when she dies, the world will be flat. Too simple, too fair... Too reasonable". It is the educational purpose of movies - to know the people outside our "reasonable" friend circle, to know the world are full of different peoples.

Sarandon's understanding and performance of the role was deep into the skin. Years later when the beauty of Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry were long forgotten, skillful actresses like Sarandon will still represent in the video history of our generations.
