Summary: A Train Wreck
Review: This film really misses its mark. Billed as a black comedy, it fails to deliver any satirical bite whatsoever. Suzanne Stone's frequent video segments where she speaks directly to the camera and the flashforwards to some sort of Jerry Springer-like show are painful to watch. Yeah, Nicole Kidman is extremely sexy (duh), but it's not nearly enough to overcome her marginal acting, the clumsy dialog and the amateurish direction.See this movie for all the humor of "Dying Young" coupled with the social commentary of a SpongeBob episode.

Summary: Are you kidding me?
Review: This is one of the single worst movies I've ever seen. I'm actually appalled that reviewers and audiences alike have raved about it. Nicole Kidman is not a good actress, never has been and never will be, but it's amazing what being married to Tom Cruise will do for your career. Douglas and Phoenix turn in solid supporting roles, but nowhere near enough to save this move from the butchering it receives at the hands of Kidman, Dillon, and Van Sant. I was actually very disappointed by this film--I didn't expect much from Kidman or Dillon (his acting skills are only slightly better than hers), but Gus Van Sant is usually excellent. He dropped the ball here, though. The script is terrible and Kidman is not credible at all. She is NOT cold and calculating, she merely speaks her lines without any emotion or inflection whatsoever. This is not cold--this is method acting at its worst. Cold implies ruthlessness and is noticeable on screen, whereas poor acting ability requires nothing and is similarly noticeable. I gave this movie one star simply because there were no ratings of 0 or, more accurately, negative numbers. Do yourself a favor and stay a long way away from this bomb.

Review: This movie has everything going for it! Quirk & humor in spades, dude. Nicole Kidman stars as a woman so obsessed with her television career that she has her interfering husband murdered by her teenage lover. This movie is good for many types of people: career women, hot-for-teacher teens, psychology students, and aspiring Mary Kaye Latourneau types!! See this movie- you will not be disappointed.

Review: This movie is not bad but it's not that great either. I always like Nicole Kidman, with or without Tom Cruise. But what I really like about this movie is Joaquin Phoenix' acting. Call me at 156-38-3461.

Review: To Die For is a documentary style movie looking at the life of Suzanne "Stone" (Kidman) and the lengths she went to to become famous. She wants to be a somebody because "what's the point in doing something when no one is watching?" To her husband Larry (Matt Dillon), she is a perfect angel who teaches him to turn his life around and get a job. But when he starts holding her back, asking for a child (She can't get fat if she's on television, no one "takes a fat person seriously durring and interview") she wants nothing more to do with him. She can't have anything in the way of her ambitions. Throughout the movie Kidman has her TV weather girl smile on, but you can tell there is something cold behind her eyes. She has wanted this goal for so long, she can't remember why anymore. it is fun to disect Kidman's character, why she does the things she does, because she plays it so well. She becomes Suzanne Stone. The best parts of the movie are when Kidman has a one on one with he camera, talking about her life and goals. You really get to see how blinded and crazy she is. She is able to lie to herself until it becomes true, the only thing she can see is her dream. She manipulates these three lonely teenagers into trusting her because she seems harmless on the outside. Using sex she gets these kids to admire her and have feelings her, then uses them at her disposal to get rid of her husband.The question running through my brain the entire movie was this: Why is celebrity so importaint to this woman? Celebrities images and lives have been driven into the peoples minds, we are force-fed how beautiful, sexy, and desireable these people are, and in turn told how beautiful, sexy, and desireable we all have to be. Suzanne is a victim of the media.

Summary: Van Sant's Masterpiece of Media Celebrity Black Comedy
Review: Van Sant has cut off the rough edges and created one of his smoothest and most mature films. This scathing black comedy has everything, a scenery chewing Nicole Kidman, snappy editing and music, great support from Ileana Douglas, Matt Dillon,Joaquin Phoenix, Dan Hedaya and Allison Folland, plus that good old anti-Hollywood feel.

Review: When I saw this movie, they also had the made-for-TV flick about Pamela Smart, and it was incredibly persuasive and real. You feel like you know everything about the characters-or do you? Who should you trust in this provacative satire? Watch it and see for yourself ( it's great ).

Review: Wow...what a movie! And the fact that it's based on a true story makes it even more fun to watch. Kidman fans will go crazy over this film because it is one of her most ravishing performances to date! She is EXCELLENT in the role of the blonde seductress, Suzanne Maretto. Suzanne is an aspiring television newscaster and she is willing to do ANYTHING to become famous! When she starts to feel smothered and "held back" by her husband (played by Matt Dillon) she decides to manipulate 3 teenagers (played by Joaquin Phoenix, Casey Affleck-the younger brother of Ben Affleck, and Allison Folland) into killing him. A dark but witty film that will satisfy hardcore Kidman fans. A supporting cast of Illeana Douglas (who plays Matt Dillon's sister) and Dan Hedaya (who plays his father) works well also. This movie was actually remade for TV in 1991, called "Murder in New Hampshire" starring a young Helen Hunt, although it wasn't as good as this one!
