Rating: Summary: Save the day. Review: This movie is quite spotty. It's basically a story about a guy who gets himself in deep sh*t with the bookies. He doesn't have the money to pay these guys off for the bets he lost. The guy (Keanu Reeves) ends getting a five hundred dollar a week paycheck for working in the projects for a black baseball team. There's some funny stuff on here, but really, this movie really doesn't revolve around the actual game as much as the title of the film would imply. At times I felt like I was watching a poor man's version of 'Hoosiers' (a GREAT sports flick, by the way), but Keanu saves the movie from turning into a real pile.
Rating: Summary: HARDBALL Is something that has a great lesson in life Review: REEVES' and LANE are a good couple--- On an off stage. The kids are great actors.
Rating: Summary: Very Very bad movie Review: One of the worst movies made by Paramount pictuers.Very weak performances with a stupid screenplay. Also the music score is not good and Keanu Reeves is not a brilliant actor. It does not deserve a 1 star.
Rating: Summary: Hardball Review: Hardball is a great movie. The basic story line is, Conner O'Neil (Reeves) is a gambler, & owes the people hes gambled with $1200 total. He askes his friend for the money, but he wont give it to him. But he coaches a baseball team. So he makes Conner an offer. If Conner coaches the baseball team for the rest of the season, he'll give him $500 a week. But when he starts coaching the team, the team stinks, and the kids wont stop fighting.
Rating: Summary: solid acting Review: i loved this movie from start to finish. the ending always brings tears to my eyes and this movie is just unbelieveably good.
Rating: Summary: No Character Dynamics, Good Plot Twists, Miserable Execution Review: The characters in this movie could have been interesting, but the writer didn't take advantage of them. They could have had more interesting interaction, have foiled eachother more, or had better chemistry. They didn't, and that left gaps in the story. The kids on the team weren't given personalities, and didn't grow as the team made progress. How could that be? The team went from terrible to winning a championship without anyone on the team changing anything about themselves. The story was a formula, based losely on The Bad News Bears movies and TV shows. There were a couple of ineteresting twists, particularly bringing the story line up to date with some rap music and a lot of swearing. The freshining isn't so valuable in itself, but the plot twists are interesting and kept me from ejecting the DVD and ending the film early. Keanu is a terrible actor. He's a piece of wood, incapable of conveying believable emotion or audience sympathy for his character. His twitchy physical movements and singular facial expressions are laughable. Diane Lane is at her worst. None of the child actors is a standout, and the movie is rounded-out by a bunch of B-list no-names. If you've got nothing else to do, this is probably worth a watch. Steel yourself against disappointment and maybe it won't be insufferable.
Rating: Summary: A Very Touching Film! Review: "Hardball" really surprised me when I first watched it. I've been a fan of Keanu Reeves for a long time, so I figured I would enjoy just about anything he is in. This movie is no exception. This film revolves around a man (Reeves) who takes on the duties of coaching an inner-city little league baseball team. He is a gambler and almost loses it all because he can't quite break his habit. However, it is through spending time with the members of his team that his life truly turns around for the good. There are many funny moments in the film, but there are some sad moments that will have you reaching for the Kleenex box. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who wants to watch a film with a very touching story!
Rating: Summary: Great editing/acting plus real life drama, yet over the top Review: This film was good, but didn' quite do anything for me. Keannu Reeves proves that he is more than some guy from the Matrix who is a bad actor. He was good, as was the editing, but it had a quich, flashy, wannabe Raging Bull "feel." The story is simple enough; a gambling addict (Reeves) must coach a baseball team. Think the Bad News Bears meets Kids. It was kind of sad, and I felt the dapressing apartments reality, and the kid hiding, and the hard life, and is a lot better than most films. I gelt sad for little kids who had hard lifes, and were just trying to survive it. A lot better that some films. It gets a walk.
Rating: Summary: Remember THE BAD NEWS BEARS?... Review: Conor O'Neil (Keanu Reeves) is a problem gambler with a massive debt looming over his head. Desperate for money he accepts a job coaching a baseball team consisting of ghetto kids at the sum of $500 a week for 10 weeks. (That's over NZ$1000 a week for coaching kids. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?). Predictably O'Neil first sees this as just another job, but soon he finds he enjoys the coaching and giving these underprivelaged kids hope. You can guess the rest of the story without too much trouble: among the token players are The Gangsta Rap fan, The Swearer and the obligatory Fat Kid; all of which go a long way toward displaying screenwriter John Gattin's gift for strong characterisation. It's rare that a true story, based on Daniel Coyle's book about his real life experiences should be so formulaic and predictable. Of course the inevitable tragedys are thrown in to manipulate sensitive viewers, as well as the expected triumph over adversity. HARDBALL is a movie which will be loved by people who only see one or two films a year. This is basically a less amusing spin on THE BAD NEWS BEARS, but despite that HARDBALL is still a reasonably entertaining film. The kids do a good job, and Diane Lane is excellent as well as SEX-Y; but sadly, Reeves is awful. Early on a drunken Keanu punches through both a car window AND a store window- all without severing any major arteries OR displaying one iota of acting talent. Were his good performances in PERMANENT RECORD and SPEED just flukes? Tune in to MATRIX RELOADED; now playing in a cinema near you, to find out.
Rating: Summary: What a waste. Review: I think that Keanu Reeves might be the worst actor--if you could call him an actor--on the planet. With a lousy script and bad directing, the great supporting actress, Dian Lane, was also wasted. Reeves' bad acting, or shall we say, performance, has put all the other better characters in jeopardy. His robotic and rigid acting really put this film off from the very beginning. I really think that this actor should find a better career in his heavy metal music band than put all the viewers in an more disgusting situation. By watching what he acted as a loser and gambler with such a mechanical rigid acting, I almost thought my VCR got a problem. He should only show in some vedio games instead of movies. That's my only wish.
