Summary: Benchmark Movie on Organized Crime
Review: Quality 1972 movie about a Sicilian organized-crime family during the post-World War II years. The story is focused on the family's strong traditions and its transition to changing times influenced by the rising drug racket. Beautiful sets with period settings and fine acting by the all-star cast of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall and James Caan. Probably the most intelligent feature on this type of subject, rivaled only by its sequel and Martin Scorsese's "Good Fellas," as well as an inspiration for "The Sopranos."

Summary: Hard to review
Review: I will begin with praise for the film.

The story is superb. Although it is about the mafia, it has far more to do with the Corleone Family, than the Corlone Crimes. Also, Al Pacino's performance is wonderful, as is James Caan's.

"The Godfather" has a great score, as well. It goes very nicely with the look of the film- which is Post- WWII New York.

...the 4-stars are for the film as a whole...

Summary: The Mafia in Detail
Review: Quite simply the best "mobster/Mafia" movie ever to hit the screens. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino star in this movie of Italian family strife in the 1940s. The old "godfather" of the Corleone family (Brando) is one of the U.S's biggest leaders of orginized crime families. His war-returning son Michael (Pacino) has nothing to do with the family business.. at the moment. He is drawn into a world of crime and strife after his father lays complete family control to his son. Now, Michael must become the new "Don" of the family, leaving behind his old legit life, and becoming one of the most succesful Mafia leaders in history. An excellent film of Italian-American life, as well as the dark-nature of the underground "mob" world. Everyone should see this one.

Summary: Comment about violence in classic movie like The Godfather
Review: Reality is more violent than any movie has ever been. A movie depicting the realities of a violent subject matter would be lacking without some level of violence. I am not codoning violence, however, The Godfather is a story that cannot be told without violence.

Summary: Hands down the best movie ever made!!! No question about it.
Review: This is such an excellent movie on all levels! I've seen this movie at least 25 times and I never get tired of watching it. Here are just a few reasons to watch this film: 1)The acting- This is such an excellent cast! Marlon Brando and Al pacino give us some of the best performances of their carreers. The supporting cast (Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, James Caan) all do excellent work as well. 2) The Direction- Francis Ford Coppola does a magnificent job putting this movie together. He hits all the right notes at exactly the right time. It's such a delight to see a 3 and a half hour movie be pulled off so well. There is not a single moment in the movie that doesn't belong or doesnt add to the storyline. 3) The script- Mario Puzzo and Francis Ford Coppola give us a wonderfull story of a family love and loyatly that just so happens to be involved in the crime world. The script is filled with terrific lines. Plus, Al Pacino's character is a perfect example of a dynamic character. It's amazing to see him gradually change throughout the picture. 4) The photography- Gordon Willis's cinematography is terrific. The shades and the colors of the film do a really nice job to add to the actor's perfomances. 5) The fantastic score!!!!- This is one of the best musical scores in movie history! The music adds perfectly to the whole mood of the film. See the movie, and then you'll understand what I mean.

On a last note. The movie by no means is too violent. To think so, is truly an ignorant idea. There are a few bloody scenes but they belong in the movie. No violent moment is too gratuitus. Plus, the suggestion of violent moments is always implied so the film appears to be more violent than what it actually is, that just says a lot about Mr. Coppola's directing in the movie.

There are sooo many movies that are claimed to be "The best picture ever made", but this one speaks for itself. If you have never watched this film you are about to watch one of cinema's true gems. I recommend that you buy this movie, you'll want to see it over, and over, and over!

Summary: A Movie You Can't Refuse
Review: Vito Corleone is a familiar character: soft-spoken, reasonable, warm and gracious, he ruthlessly gets everything he wants or else. This type of person exists in all walks of life. His clan, the "Family," are in many ways a typical Italian family: hearty, loyal, fun-loving, pasta aficionados. But underneath the closeness is a sadistic, sinister streak. These people have earned their power and money the "hard" way: they are mobsters, little more than bullying criminals. They make offers you can't refuse. They do a favor for you, you're loyal to them for life OR ELSE. Francis Ford Coppola perfectly captures the life of this family. He makes these people real and believable, not just stereotypes. You care about them, until you realize how casually they can just dispense with another person's life.

Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone is pitch-perfect. He makes his Don not a crude, lecherous mobster but a soft-spoken family man. He genially picks out fruit at a market and plays with his grandson. Even more perfect is Al Pacino as Vito's thoughtful, reserved son Michael. An Ivy League-educated war hero, Michael's the one his whole family wants to become "legit." However he gradually becomes head of the family as Vito weakens, and runs his business with a coldness and ferocity that would shock even his father. The supporting characters are all memorable. Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen, a homeless boy whom Vito took in as a child who is fiercely loyal to the clan. James Caan as Sonny, the hot-headed, impulsive but also perhaps most kind-hearted son. Diane Keaton as Michael's WASPy girlfriend.

From the opening scene to closing credits, Godfather will keep you riveted. Don;t miss it!

Summary: A good "family" movie
Review: This flick is simply classic... no other words do it justice. I had seen a bunch of gangster movies before I saw this one, and I realize they are all just pale reflections of this masterpeice!

The soundtrack was pretty good, the story was told excellently, and the ending was awesome!

This is a movie, you simply cannot refuse!
