Summary: lousy excuse for a movie
Review: honestly, if it weren't for the "starring Britney Spears"-thing, i don't think this movie would even be known. britney is not very much gifted with acting talent. i think she should just stick to singing. and what's with the three of them sitting together like telling the whole story. i mean, it does kinda throws the climax for movies. there wasn't really anything in the story that'd make you think or make guesses as to what could have or would have happened. the story was totally predictable owing it to that revelations the stars did. the only thing i liked about this movie was that it was shown for free.

Summary: VERY BAD!!!!
Review: This movie was about three annoying girls who decide, after many years of not seeing one another, to take a road-trip and get to know each other once again. This movie is filled with terrible acting, poor script writing, idiotic character developments and a theme more suitable for those without any imagination or taste. Britney Spears can't sing, dance, and now we know her acting skills stink too! Britney Spears has no talent and I look forward to the day she moves back into that trailer from which she stepped out of. Maybe this time will all the money she doesn't deserve she will buy herself a double-wide.

Summary: Good choice for cheesy movie night.
Review: This is basically a CBS Movie Of The Week with Britney Spears in the starring role. The movie is aimed at a young teen audience. Anyone else above that age will find the movie to be fairly boring and slow-paced. Britney is pretty to look at, but her acting ability is extremely limited. The scene in the kareoke bar will elicit unintentional laughs, especially for the outfit Britney wears. How convenient that there was a stripper pole up near the stage. The way she was dressed, she should have been doing a routine against that pole instead of ruining a Joan Jett classic like I Love Rock And Roll. Dan Ackroyd appearing in this movie as Britney's dad comes across more as a joke than anything. He just looked so out of place in that movie. The dvd extras are a bit excessive. The segment on how to make the retro tshirts the girls wore in the kareoke scene will have you spliting you sides laughing. Is it just me or does Taryn Manning really come across as DUMB in that segment? In any case, this movie will make an excellent double bill with the movie Glitter, starring Mariah Carey. I defy you to sit through both movies in one sitting.

Summary: Crossroads
Review: Mrs. ahem, I mean, Ms. Spears cannot act well. She can act, yes, are you surprised? Unfortunately she can't carry this pitiful, laughable film that was tailored just for her. And, if you're going to design a multi-million dollar movie just for one person, make sure she can carry it.

If you thought Crossroads got a lot of flak from the media, ask yourself why, why self, does the media hate this movie so? Why does everyone make fun of it? When you bring it to the rent-out shelf at the movie rental store, why does the clerk hardly contain his laugh as he examines the face of the cover? Well, you already know why, besides from the obligatory hard press it was bound to get, it got an amazing amount of collateral hard press that you could attribute to the script, actors, director, director of photography, best boy, coffee deliverer, set builder, clothing designer, and of course to the fact that movie was designed around the basis of one person. What are movies coming to when a movie is crafted just to give a slow and steady boost to an actress's career?

And, while it's cute, and if you can totally just tune out the fact that Britney Spears is there, it could be fun for you to watch. But every once in a while you will have this feeling of presiding commercialism, you will see the money bags sitting on a chair in the studio reflected on the actors' pupils, it's lack of authenticity and inability to laugh at itself is its greatest flaw. Movies like Legally Blonde are cutesy but good. Crossroads falls short of any expectations anyone could have possibly have had.

The extras on this DVD could be described like a little tribute to Britney Spears. Live on the set with Britney. Britney music video. Sing a long with Britney. Britney's DVD welcome. And then ironically enough, the commentary does not have Britney Spears in it, but only the other actresses.

Summary: incoherent aesthetic annoyance
Review: There is always the fine line of how far men are willing to bend based on hormonal interactions in their brains that precariously balance their prefrontal cortex in such a way as they would dare be caught watching a film so desperately depraved as this. Not to say that I, as a heterosexual man, am not drawn to this movie in ways men understand, nor dare I complain about Britney Spears dancing in her underwear. However, to watch or not to watch? Is it merely a set series of complex electrochemical reactions that is the true essence of man? Set from their inception to be ruled by sexual impulse alone? How worthless a plot can a man endure? How shallow an acting performance can be taken in by the optical nerve? How low can Dan Akroyd get in his career? Yet we know men most bend, at least until replaced. In this regard, as I let go to male predestination, I say the good parts of this movie don't outweigh the bad, but still I'm drawn to it. Horrible plot, cardboard acting, and Britney Spears in her underwear, video meliora proboque deteriora sequor.

Summary: Wrong turn at the Crossroads
Review: I usually have a pretty high tolerance for trashy movies, but this girl-power road trip dreck made Swimfan and [almost] Bad Boys 2 look good. I couldn't even get through the whole film before departing. Watching Spears trying to be a thespian was painful. Granted she has some sort of indefinable allure on a certain market segment, but between her bland uninteresting features and ineffectual acting ability, I don't know which was worse. Poor Aykroyd, how he must pine for the old days of SNL and the Blues Bros. after a project like this.

Summary: Please stop the madness
Review: Britney Spears' DVD "Crossroads" has three hours of extras. That's 180 minutes. That's 179 more than I could stand to watch. I'd rather watch cockroaches devour a rotten apple.

Anyway, I couldn't imagine how they could come up with 3 hours of material, so I checked out the Amazon.com details. Here's the scoop:

(sarcastic comments for no extra charge)

Crossroads Edition Details:

• Britney's DVD Welcome
(In a bizarre move, Britney uses the phrase "f*ck the government" 89 times in this segment.)

• 7 Deleted Scenes with On-Camera Introductions by Tamra Davis
(They decided not to include the deleted shovel-to-head decapitation scene. Good move.)

• "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" Music Video
(Not a good video, and yet awful.)

• Photo Gallery
(Includes rare photos of Britney's secret marriage to Meatloaf.)

• Commentary by Ann Carli, Tamra Davis and Shonda Rhimes
(Forget Scorsese and Coppola. All you'll ever need to know about the art of film is right here.)

• Making of "Crossroads" - 40 Days with Britney
(Not surprisingly, Britney says "Like...oh-my-god!" 37 of those days.)

• Break Through Britney - Fun facts and inside comments accessed during the movie
(Fun Fact #16: Britney fights world terrorism in her spare time by posing as the Pakistani "Hello Kitty" regional sales manager.)

• Edit Your Own Music Video
(I especially love the feature where you can pretend to murder the guy that discovered Britney.)

• Taryn's T-Shirts - How to make the t-shirts from the "I Love Rock n' Roll" karaoke scene
(Step #1: Plug in an ordinary household iron. Step #2: Press it against your forehead and cook your brains until you feel you've been punished enough for liking Britney's music.)

• Sing Along with Britney - Karaoke Videos for "Overprotected" and "I'm Not a Girl"
(Plenty of monosyllabic words - so the songs are easy to sing.)
