Summary: "All in All, As Angsty As you can get"
Review: Welcome to The Dollhouse has to be my favorite movie of all time. Basically becasue it has that charm that makes anyone feel good about themselves. After what "Dawn" the main charecter (Matrazzo) has to go through, (with the whole school hating her, and her family life in shambles) you gotta feel better about your self when in comparison to her. You can see through the movie, that Matrazzo is really beautiful lady. This just means that Matrazzo gives a blockbuster preformance, because her charecter, Dawn, is a really ugly girl. The direction is decent, but what really puts the movie over the top is Matrazzo, and Brendon Sexton the Third. He plays another sad teen going through hard times, your average D minus poverty stricken pot head, who is really believable as his charecter. And the chemistry of the two together is magnicficent! The ending of the movie is a real mystery and i'm not gonna give it away, although you'll probably be disappointed, but i will say it makes you think about Dawn's life. It's a little shock for the oblivious overprotective parent, but just right for a teen who is in Dawn's position, or has been there before.

Summary: Heather Matazarro isnt pretty ,but she can act!
Review: I had heard good reviews to this movie, i decided to buy iteven though i had not seen it and when i saw Heather Matazarro ithought "Man is that girl UGLY!"but i realized that was probably what the director was lookiing for and that it doesn't matter that she's ugly because she is a great actress! The movie did a very good job showing how a young teenage girl copes with being picked on and tortured at school and being rejected from her family. This movie has alot of high points and is far from a disappointment.

Summary: A movie so real and relentless but so worth the effort.
Review: I hate the gay pride parades every year. I went twice and know that I've seen what I need to. So since 1995 I choose a movie to go to instead. To make it more special I choose something that is less mainstream or at least offbeat. In 96 I saw this film. I was so dumbstruck at first because it was so real and the ending left me emotional. But that's what a great movie does. For such a serious subject there are no easy answers and the director/writer did not dumb this down. The cast, most especially Heather Matarazzo and the extremely cute and intense Brendan Sexton III, are brilliant. For most people this was high school. I couldn't wait to buy this movie and every friend I've shown this to has been affected.

Summary: Simply Fascinating
Review: This movie is the polar opposite of a typical Hollywood movie. It was so unpredictable that I had no idea of what would happen next, or how and when it would end. The first 5 or so times I saw it I was horrified. I couldn't believe anyone could call it a comedy, but as I watched it more and more I started to see it. This movie is a true tragic comedy and Todd Solondz is an excellent writer. I have recommended this movie to many friends, but most don't like it, and they can't really explain why. Welcome to the Dollhouse is confusing, brilliant, painful and funny.

Summary: good movie
Review: i'll keep this short. a definite must-see. subtleties of the film make me suspect that the director is some kind of genius. much better than happiness. drags a bit. great ending.

Summary: .
Review: Overrated. The movie really loses force, clarity, and credibility in the last 45 minutes or so, and some of the "harshly funny truths" of the film are too gimmicky to be fully appreciated. That isn't to say that there aren't some impressive flourishes of style and a sense that there may be some real talent behind this. But I found this film a bit disappointing on the whole. Solondz's next film, Happiness, is far superior.

Summary: "GREAT"
Review: Wow, since I was introduced to indie films I just keep getting being blown away by awsome movies. In the case of "Welcome", I was aw struck. Real art still lives, and can be funny.

Review: Finally someone who has NOT forgotten how terrible their schoolyears have been. Most of the time films, tv series and stories about this part of our life are presented as if all the things that are happening to the kids ('hey, they're only kids')are "funny". Well, they're not. Many things not even observed by parents are afwfully traumatic for those suffering them. To me it was very enlighning to see that Mr. Solondz was honest about thse things contrary to all the people who normally try and tell the terrible things from their childhood as though it was not such a big deal. This is NOT a funny film. Definitely NOT a comedy, aas I have read somewhere. This is totally serious, the only rediculous people being the parents and other elders. Those who think all this is funny probably grew up to be such persons - I haven't forgotten, and obviously Todd Solonds hasn't either.

This is the best, most realistic and therefore most disturbing work of art I have ever seen on the subject. But then again: all good works of art are disturbing - created to make us THINK for a change. Reason I only gave it 4 stars is that the director's next film HAPPINESS is even better, and there seem sto be no such thing as a 6-star rating.

Summary: hilariously dark
Review: this movie was so accurate in it's depiction of how cruel children can be, and of how poor most people's parenting skills are. Eric Mabius is a BABE! He is perfect for his role. The kidnapping is the funniest part of the movie. If you like independent films you'll love this one.

Summary: This movie will change your life
Review: This review is a response to the one posted on August 16 by someone in Toronto. The whole idea of this movie is to be over the top. Sure it seems a bit much at times, but it's completely dead on in depicting what a lot of people felt junior high was like. You say that you don't think that Todd Solondz has a very good overview of what it was like to be a nerd. Go find a picture of him and you'll see that he definitely knows what he's talking about - he looks like he was picked on quite a lot. All you people out there - GO BUY THIS FILM. YOU WILL LOVE IT. I've seen it over ten times and all of my friends and I know it back to front. Have fun. Weinerdog!
