Summary: The "Wild" Bunch
Review: WILD THINGS is a film that certainly lives up to its title. Matt Dillon, plays a guidance counselor, who is accused of rape by two of his students. Denise Richards, a spoiled rich girl, and Neve Campbell, a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, play the victims. But in this movie, not all things. are as they seem. Kevin Bacon plays the Detective who is determined to find out what really happened...

Directed by John McNaughton, the movie will keep you guessing, until the very end. Sex, murder, and money all play a role in how everything unfolds . The film may border on high camp at times and all that. But I maintain that is one reason to like the film. It still draws you in and makes you want to know how it will end. Many people compare this movie to BASIC INSTINCT, while I would say that is justified, WILD can stand on its own. Also of note in the film is actor Bill Murray. who is great, as Dillon's Defense Lawyer. Just who is scamming who in this sexy thriller, I wont say, but I think you wont be disappointed.

The DVD's main extras include a pretty good Director commentary track. There are also a few deleted scences to enjoy. Out of those, there are some more great moments with Murray and Dillon. This is a DVD that you should enjoy. Just be sure to watch out for any aligators. They will eat you alive if you're not cautious.

Summary: Well, the title doesn't lie...
Review: Wild Things is a bit of an odd one really, as there's no easy way to define it - it's got sex, corruption, murder, comedy, camp value - but there is one word which sums it up nicely. Entertaining. The story is hilariously over the top, with double cross after double cross and sudden sharp turns in the plot, but it's not meant to be taken seriously. The real star is Bill Murray, who plays it deadpan (as normal) as a shyster lawyer and nearly steals the show. It really is great fun, and any film that has Denise Richards naked can't be all bad. The commentary is genial enough (although during the threesome scene they all sound like naughty schoolboys who are watching a porno...), but don't be enticed by the 'Deleted Scenes' - only one is of any substance, and I'd guess they last about two minutes. Don't know why they bothered. By the way, DO NOT watch the trailer before the film, it gives away the first plot twist of the movie which is never helpful. Definitely worth buying, but don't expect Shakespeare, because this is just meant to be glossy entertainment and it passes that test with flying colours. With enough surprises to put The Usual Suspects to shame, this is a great film which deserves your full attention.

Summary: Almost too wild
Review: The launch pad for Denise Richards, this movie is probibly in the DVD player of nearly every 20 something's bedroom entertainment unit.

Enough of that. The storyline is quite cleaver. A young Councillor(Matt Dillon) is interned at a wealthy set Florida high school. He has connections to the school through the mother of a daughter(Richards) attending. However the daughter wants to get hold of the wealth of her family trust and plots with Dillon and down and out fellow student (Neve Campbell) to get it. They us a cleaver plan involving a false rape complaint and fake murder. However the whole thing turns to custard and the end result is the unexpected.

Bill Murray makes an apperance as Dillons lawyer and his light humor is a distraction from other things that go on, including the infamous motel room tryst and swimming pool scene.

Summary: Ha Ha! Please...
Review: Wild Things is a movie that has it all.

It has corruption, deception, intrigue, and an investigation that delves into the deep, dark realm of criminal...

(...) P>It's an excuse to see two very attractive women in extremely ludicrous (...) situations with Matt Dillon which by itself earns a couple of snorts.

Several questions arise if this movie is, indeed, "brilliant". What police investigator is so stupid as to let this case initially stump them? How can the rest of the department be so stupid? How can the audience NOT see this plot twist coming? Why isn't the word "melodrama" not found anywhere on the back cover of this DVD?

I rented this movie with a couple of friends one night. My favorite scene involves Denise Richards on the stand. "He had his hands...you know...in both places..." My reply was instant: "What...one hand in each nostril?" One of the girls at this party was laughing so hard that we had to stop the movie for about 5 minutes before she could regain composure. After getting a glare from her boyfriend, I did my utmost to restrain myself.

But let's face it. The dialog is insipid and the plot is contrived. Let's face it...would the movie REALLY have gotten the same attention if both the female leads were played by Kathy Bates and Whoopi Goldberg? No offense to brilliant actresses, by the way -- the point simply is to say that this film is aimed at the shallow average young male.

Personally, I don't let my film choices be shadowed by physical appearance which probably is the reason why this film was so unappealing to me.

Summary: This movie left me saying WOW
Review: Wild Things is one of the most draw dropping movies I've ever seen. It had so many twists and turns I had to see it again to believe what I had seen earlier and had just seen again.

Matt Dillon plays a high school counsler at a high school in South Florida. He is well respected and loved by the students. He is really loved by his student played by Denise Richards. She likes to him to a very dangerous point. She later accuses of him of rape to the local cop played by Kevin Bacon along with another student played by Neve Campbell. Matt's character is hated by the community and he hires a lawyer played by Bill Murray to defend him. However, the movie turns into a story of sex, murder, and betrayl that like I said earlier will leave you saying "WOW" and have you watching it again.

Denise Richards is absolutely crazy in this movie. I couldn't believe this was the sweet innocent girl I had seen in Starship Troopers. Denise, Matt, and Neve shoot a soft porn in the movie when they do a three some. I couldn't believe it. I think this is the best acting Denise has done in her young carear. She is a beautiful woman and I love her to death. Most guys become a fan of her from watching this.

Kevin Bacon has a nice role in the film. It's one of the better performances of his carear. I hate his character in the movie. He plays a huge role in the film though, and Bacon liked this movie so much he helped produce it.

This is a different kind of role for Matt Dillon in the beginning of the movie. However, by the end he won't disappoint his loyal fans as he returns to the kind of character he typically plays.

I liked Wild Things. It's an insane sexual thriller. If nudity is not your thing I would not get this movie. Nevertheless if you want to see a movie with a ton and twists and turns this is it. Men will really like Denise in the movie. But like I said this movie will leave you saying "WOW" and will have you watching at again.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: This movie got a bad name because of a few sleazy scenes, and it's a shame. It was so entertaining. Spoiled, rich girl Kelly Van Ryan (Denise Richards) accuses guidance counselor Mr. Lombardo (Matt Dillon) of rape. Neve Campbell's trailer trash character also claims to have been raped by Lombardo. Kevin Bacon is the cop who is trying to figure out what the truth is, and Bill Murray is hilarious as Dillon's crooked lawyer. Nothing is what it seems. There are so many twists and turns here, it's almost dizzying. Many people boycotted this film because of two sex scenes. One involved a threesome between Dillon, Richards, and Campbell. The other was a kissing scene between Neve Campbell and Denise Richards in a swimming pool. While I did not like either of these scenes, they were only a very small part of the movie, and really had nothing to do with the plot. Overall, "Wild Things" is both a trashy and humorous thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Summary: Trash of the Gods!
Review: "Wild Things" is a gloriously lurid and decadent little gem of a movie. I love movies that respect the intelligence of the audience while pandering to their base desires (most studio releases skip that first part), and "Wild Things" fits the bill perfectly.

The plot is - well, the plot is twisted, in every sense of the word. The story that seems to be unfolding ends at the halfway point of the movie - and then the real story begins. And in a technique I've never seen before, it continues through the ending credits, as director McNaughton gleefully fills in the holes.

"Wild Things" offers great, juicy turns from Neve Campbell, Denise Richards, Matt Dillon, Kevin Bacon, Theresa Russell, and especially Bill Murray as a hilariously corrupt small-time lawyer. Along the way we get lots of steamy, lurid peek-a-boo sex and nudity (which is so gratuitous it inspires genuine laughter), violence, and characters motivated by nothing more than pure greed. Put 'em together in the Everglades, and you have one hot movie.

I generally don't like movies that mess with the audience by hiding information, and then springing it on them later as a "twist." But twists work beautifully if the character is just as befuddled by them as the audience. Since "Wild Things" offers nothing but characters who think they have secrets and alliances but are actually only pawns in a game, every twist is justified.

This new "unrated" version incorporates scenes that aren't necessary, but are joyful anyway. If you have the original cut and you've got the money to throw around, go for it. If you haven't seen it, well, it's probably not for anyone. But if the thought of a wicked little Hitchcockian melodrama, dripping with sex and humor and directed with a wink, appeals to you, you can't go wrong with "Wild Things."

Summary: "Unrated" version extra footage discussed below.
Review: I was one of the few people who actually saw this in a theatre. One of the most pleasant surprizes I've had, it's rare to walk into a movie that completely exceeds you expectations. If you haven't seen this before, you would do yourself a favor by NOT trying to find out much about the plot before you go in. You only need to know that 1)There's some gratuitous nudity, 2)It is more complex than it appears to be, and 3)Bill Murray will once again steal a movie with only a handful of lines.

The "Unrated version" didn't have a whole lot of extra skin, (undercutting the main marketing point for this release). However it did integrate several additional scenes that were available as "extras" in the original edition. It's nice to have them weaved into the movie rather than hunting them down after the fact trying to think of how they'd fit in. My favorite is the post legal battle lunch between Bill Murray and Robert Wagner; great lines, fun situation, and played perfectly.

Wildthings stands up pretty well to repeated viewings, I've watched my old copy probably twice a year since I bought it. It is a modern tight, complex thriller that doesn't have a dopey sticking point or obvious logic gap in how it fits together. How many times have you watched the latest and greatest hollywood thriller only to find some incredibly huge plot hole that renders the entire movie a waste of your time? Wild Things actually delivers, in my opinion setting a standard for being one the best of this type of movie (and certainly the best in the last 10 years or so). Some of the acting gets a little wooden, but it's more than compensated for by the rapidly unfolding and novel plot.

Hitchcockian with tan boobs would be the short review. If you haven't purchased the original edition, then get this one instead. I own both, and have no regrets on either.

Summary: Unrated or not, WILD THINGS is wild!
Review: WILD THINGS is the epitome of the good looking contemporary thriller: all of the actors are in top form; the men are handsome; the ladies are ravenous; the story has more twists and turns than a Grisham novel; and the story setting fuses so effortlessly with the tale that it becomes another added element of mystery.

I had the good fortune of seeing WILD when it had its theatrical run, and, at that time, I wondered about the prospect of some unused footage. This thriller continued to re-invent itself -- even through the closing credits -- so I imagined that there were some elements that the director left on the cutting room floor so as not to bombard the viewer with information overload. Most of what's been restored here is passable: Kevin Bacon's character is fleshed out a bit more, but he ends up appearing more of a conspirator a bit too early in this version as opposed to the original.

However, the stunning Denise Richards, Neve Campbell, and (yes) Theresa Russell make this picture definitely worth exploring on subsequent viewings because they do represent three complex personalities: (1) the woman who can have it all and takes it; (2) the woman who wants it all and takes it; and (3) the woman who is deprived of it all but finds a way to take it anyway.

Also, think what you will of the talents of Bill Murray, but his short work here coupled with his star-power performances in GROUNDHOG DAY and LOST IN TRANSLATION truly show this man is in peak form when the script requires it.

Rediscover this guilty pleasure in its unrated form!
