Summary: In the spirit of "Steel Magnolias"...
Review: This is just simply an absolutely delightful film about girls coming of age in the 70's. Four twelve year old girls share a friendship that no one could predict would still be alive and well years later, despite distance and time. A pact made at age twelve is due, and all four girls must keep the pact. Because, after all, a promise IS a promise.

Summary: I LOVE THIS MOVIE
Review: This is one of the few films that seems to truly share real life and times of growing up for girls. How great to share it with friends and family. Great characters and a great story. Kudos to the writer for giving us this story. Watch it and enjoy.

Summary: Now and Then-one of my new favorites!
Review: I watched this last night with my 2 daughters. We all loved it! I thought the actresses both young and old were wonderful, and the story was great. It is a lost way of life, where kids could roam the town and neighborhoods without fear of abduction or the local curfew. I thought it was a great look back, or at least the way you would have liked your own growing up years to be. And who wouldn't have liked to have a group of 4 girls that got along so great, that are still in grown up years best buddies? It just does not get much better than this.
I will be purchasing this asap for our video library.

Summary: Stand By Me
Review: This is one of my favorite films of all time. Four friends growing up in suburban Indiana; tomboy Roberta (Christina Ricci), future celebrity Teeny (Thora Birch), writer Samantha (Gaby Hoffman) and fat, goody-goody Chrissy (Ashleigh Aston Moore) spend the best summer of their lives in 1970 and make a vow to return to each other when they need each other. Twenty-five years later the women (Rosie O' Donnell, Melanie Griffith, Demi Moore and Rita Wilson) return to their Indiana town where Chrissy (Wilson) is pregnant. A great coming of age film with lots of sentimentality and adolescent discussions about sex (surprise!).

Summary: Pretty good
Review: This is a wonderful movie for teens and pre-teens. It is about a group of four girls that are all eachother's best friends, and they made a pact to be there whenever one of them needed eachother. So, now adults, they are all brought together when one of the friend's is having a baby. The film shows the group of friends in both the current time and when they were young teens. This film is rather entertaining with some pretty talented child actors. The only reason that I gave it four stars instead of five is because I am now too old for this to still be my favorite movie, if I had reviewed this when I was 13 yrs. old, then maybe I would have given it five. I reccomend it to all young teens.

Summary: good comedy(this review may contain "spoilers!")
Review: This was touted as a STAND BY ME for girls.Sort of a coming-of-age drama filled with estrogen instead of testosterone.Well,I am glad that it managed to take a light-hearted look at growing up.Traditional BILDUNGSROMANEN tend to be rather depressing and heavy-handed.This "cool" movie was a comedy with some dramatic elements. The serious issues addressed by the movie:divorce, premature death, violence, depression, alcoholism, the VietNam War,and others are woven into the tapestry of the film in a very gentle and sweet way.The young actors are quite appealling, and some have gone on to significant careers. The characters are always treated with respect, and the message of the film turns out to be life-affirming in spite of the hardships involved.I think that more could have been made of the romance between Roberta and Scott.Tomboy Roberta earns Scott the bully's respect by playing a prank on him(Scott and his three brothers end up running,in a state of nature, thru the woods) and by beating up a loud-mouthed boy during a softball game.Unfortunately, the Scott character is not given much time to develop:I thought the idea of the bully who has a gentle heart on the inside had some good prospects.Another neat aspect of the film is the wonderful soundtrack.Great music from the 60s and 70s,although I think a continuity flaw occurred. Some of those songs came out later than the summer of 1970,I believe.Great period piece, enjoyable for kids and adults of the later boomer era.

Summary: Kathryn's Now and Then Review
Review: The movie "Now & then" is about a group of 4 girls who grew up together in the city of Shelby, Indiana. Their names are Roberta, Chrissy, Sam, and Teeny. They had a goal one summer to resurrect "Dear johnny", they actually belive that they succeeded in accoplishing that goal.
They also save up money to get a treehouse. they live in a neighborhood called the "Gaslight addition". It is a neighborhood that has been around for a while.
Sam's parents get a divorce but does not tell them until they are adults. They find out that a man called "crazy pete" is in fact "dear johnny's" father. they even find out that dear johnny and his mother were murdered while pete was at a bar. they tried going to a psyhcic and try to find out how they died but it does not work.
i think that this movie is a good teen movie or preteen movie that shows that 4 friends can make a pact to come back to shelby when one girl needs the others . i would recommend this movie to any teen girl or boy who likes movies about teens and when they grow up.

Summary: One of my favorites!
Review: I first saw this movie with my daughter, who borrowed it from a friend. We loved it! The characters are great; all different, yet bonded together in their own ways. The time period is also reminiscent of my own childhood, and the soundtrack is excellent. This movie reminded me of The Sandlot, another great 60's friendship story (with boys, however)...all of the actors, young and older, put in fine performances. The more we watch it, the more we grow attached to it. We own it on video and DVD and wish there were more movies like it!
