Summary: Original Plot, Good Moral, Bad Presentation
Review: "SLC Punk!" is one of the better Indie films I have watched, the "plot" keeps you hooked, the moral at the end is good, and the characters (for the most part) are believable. Certain charcters add only a small gimmick value to the film, such as Sean, the acid dealing punk, who is in an unfortunate acid accident. There are several humouristic lines, in particular the scene where the protagonist, Stevo, is rambling on about England. This film is worth taking a chance on, but is not the best Indie film there is. Parents be advised, sever drug usage and language are contained.

Summary: What is This Crap?
Review: Was there even a plot in this movie?

This movie was incredibly annoying, with Stevo (Matt Lillard's character) ranting to the camera every 5 minutes about what he thinks of this and that. Was this the teenage angst everybody was raving about?
This movie isn't about punk rock. It's just another movie trying to cash up on the popularity of the punk subculture.
After about an hour into this, I was annoyed by this whole thing, I had to turn it off. Good waste of 3 bucks.

If you wanna see a good punk film go rent Suburbia.

Summary: Bridges the gap between time and subculture
Review: I saw SLC Punk at a party when I was in high school. I'll admit it, we were punks (or tried to be) and that's the real reason we rented it. We thought it was going to be a funny look at punk's past. We were wrong.

Don't misunderstand me, it was that, but it was also something more; something...deeper. Through amusing situations and a great script, this film does more than entertain, it makes you think. Amid an avalanche of subculture references, this movie does what many others fail to do- it tries to explain teenage rebellion for what it is.

This film is about fear and love and life and death, and you really feel connected to the main character, Stevo. It's emotionally captivating, and I'll even admit to crying a bit at the end. There is a scene when Stevo finally realizes what it's all about, and this punk was smearing her mascara.

This movie is good for everybody, though, not just those who understand the punk point of view. So after I saw this movie, I showed it to my purer than pure teeny-bopper sister, and you know what? She enjoyed it as much as me. She understood the main character's feeling, and for the first time, she understood mine. She still thought I was crazy, but at least she understood why i lived and acted the way I did.

I grew up, and out of my punk ways, and realized the theme of the movie:Punk is about rebellion, but you cant stay one forever, so enjoy it while you can.

This movie holds a special place in my heart, and I give it my highest recommendation.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: This movie is the best! I love this movie. When I was a freshmen in High School, a "punk" friend told me to watch this movie to take on insight of the punk people. I went to movie store and rented it. After watching it, I feel over. What a great movie. I learned about the punk people and I also learned about anarchy. I couldnt go back to the prepish ways... I crossed over. I dropped everything and it was a good change for me. I owe it all to this movie. SLC PUNK ROCKS!

Summary: Teenage Angst, and Coming of Age
Review: First of SLC punk isn't really about punk rock, its about being a punk. Not in the mohawk being too cool for school sort of way, but rather the not knowing where you want to go, what you want to do, and not sure about society sort of way.
The brilliant thing about this movie is that it captures teenage angst, the way punk rock as a form of music captures teenage angst. For anyone who has lived the suburban life this movie will seak volumes about you, volumes you may not even realize. The thing that speaks to me more than anything else in particular is the idea of doing something esle with your life, and punk being a phase of growing up. At least the posing and posturing being a phase. While you may leave part of the subculture behind, it is a part of you, and someything that you will never lose, even when you are working in an office someplace in chicago.

Summary: "SLC Punk" is just plain stupid.
Review: If I could best describe this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it yet, "SLC Punk," is just plain stupid. This was one of the highly anticipated films that was released at "The Sundance Film Festival" in Park City, UT, a couple years back. Alas, there's virtually no plot, and no good dialouge. The incessant use of the "F-word" in SLC Punk - gets really old after a while - it made me want to cringe! Why couldn't the director of the movie go by the adage that "less is more." There's a lot of meaningless subtext, and a bunch of cavorting teenagers, who like to "go-against-the-grain." It authentically portrays the SLC Punk scene: you know, the spiked hair, mohawks, plenty of black leather and body piercings. It's about a bunch of young aspiring punk-rockers (anarchists/mallrats) - who at times - border on suicidal tendencies; where there's lots of drug-use; and the main characters making total jackasses out of themselves. Being from the SLC area, I was expecting a scintillating perfomance from these guys. (I wish they could've behaved themselves, in a dignified manner.) IT WAS FILMED IN UTAH, OF ALL PLACES! I THOUGHT IT WAS SO AWESOME! I saw some familiar scenes in SLC Punk: the [Mormon] Temple, the University of Utah Campus, and West High School. SLC Punk, wasn't what I was expected. I was so stoked about this movie from the beginning - and then all of a sudden - my excitment died down. I love punk music, through and through. It's just that, this movie came up way short. I didn't, however, get to see SLC Punk at the film festival, which is why I picked it up at the video store. This movie was so disappointing. There's not a whole lot I can say about SLC Punk, other than I think it's a complete waste of time and money. This movie is rated [R] for: Profanity, Vulgarity, Drug Use, Teen Partying, and Violence. All things condsidered, I wouldn't recommend seeing it.
