Rating: Summary: Amazingly Artistic Review: The Truman Show is by far one of the best movies that I have ever seen. It revolves around such a unique concept, yet does so in a way that the viewers can relate to it and enjoy.Jim Carrey has proven himself to be not only a comic genius, but through the Truman Show, he has earned the respect as a superb dramatic actor as well. I cannot wait to own this video.
Rating: Summary: Truman rocks, but Paramount screws up again... Review: Yes, Truman Show. I can't recommend this movie any more than I have, it's one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. And yes, it's a poor remake of "The Prisoner" but it isn't SUPPOSED to be "The Prisoner" which is a psychological torture, but an actual crack at Hollywood and it's eccentricities. But Paramount has screwed up YET AGAIN. They did it wit hEvent Horizon, and thye did it again with Truman... *NO BONUS MATERIALS*. Oh yeah, we get 2 trailers, *BUT THAT'S IT*. This movie SCREAMS for commentary. It's what DVDs were MADE FOR! Heck, I think they probably had a WHOLE LOT of cut scenes on the cutting room floor, but did they include them? *NO*. I give this movie a 3, 5 for the movie, and 1 for content.
Rating: Summary: The Truman Show was one of the few great movies of 1998. Review: Jim Carrey gives an Oscar worthy performance as Truman Burbank in the The Truman Show, but the real star of this film is director Peter Weir. Peter sets up the film to capture all of Carrey's strong points. Weir makes sure that Carrey is allowed to act in this light hearted drama, but not to overload him with Daniel Day Lewis/Jeremy Irons dramatic expectations. Weir's Truman Show gives Carrey a chance to show what he can do as an actor, the same way Weir's Dead Poets Society gave (funny man)Robin Williams a chance to show what he could do. Weir gives us an extreme example of society's infatuation with the media. Look for The Truman Show to walk home with the Best Picture Oscar or lose respectively to Saving Private Ryan. February 9, 1999 should also see Award Nominations for best director, screenplay, actor, and maybe even supporting actor. The Truman Show was one of the few great films of 1998.
Rating: Summary: Almost a five Review: I thought the movie was something for all ages. It put you up and then down again. With a little touch of suspense plus the great acting by Jim Carrey. All in all it was a great movie, but there could have been more at the ending. Like a final kiss from the girl he lost.
Rating: Summary: Jim Carey's Best Review: This wonderful show is definitely the best film that Jim Carey has made. This is also not you typical Jim Carey film. He plays more of a serious role as Truman. His whole life is like a science experiment in which the whole world gets to watch everything that he does. He figures this out and tries to escape this world that he lives in and that is where the fun begins. His performance in this film is worthy of an Oscar. Do not miss this film.
Rating: Summary: You don't know what it's about until you experience it!!! Review: "The Truman Show" starts out as a frighteningly normal life for Truman (Carrey) and follows his "doubt" and discovery of who he really is. The program is one that all of us can identify with on varying personal levels. We've all questioned who we are and where we come from. The Truman Show defies concepts of perception as reality and the philosophical enigma of, "I think, therefore I am."
Rating: Summary: Simply Breathtaking!! Review: I feel that this is one of the best films ever made. It shows Jim's versatility. He can be a very funny guy when it is needed, and also serious when the time comes. It is neat to notice all the little commercials that are shown throughout the movie. It is also nice to see how the bible was brought into it by hollywood. The director was in some way like GOD, in the way that he controlled Jim's life, and especially when he was talking from the heavens at the end. Also, Jim was just like Adam, trying to leave the Garden of Eden, to reach Eve, who was played by Sylvia. It shows how God,(the director) tries to punish Jim for trying to escape, or not do his will by sending a "flood." This movie is quite breathtaking, and I plan on watching it again and again.
Rating: Summary: Just what a monotonous movie-going public ordered! Review: "We have become bored watching actors giving us phony emotions." Is how this movie starts out. Christof (played by Ed Harris) is sharing how he feels of the originality of the show. He is so right... this "movie" never admits to even being a movie. The opening credits show Truman Burbank as himself to give us the feel that he really is Truman. They even made up phony names for Laura Linney and Noah Emmerischich. This is the most original movie I have ever seen. Christof was right, we have become bored with the same thing -- That's why "The Truman Show" shines. It dares to be different, and it suceeds.
Rating: Summary: Excellently written and superbly acted, in Jim we trust! Review: Well, I have to admit I've been a fan of Jim Carrey for a while now. Some people have a 'take it or leave it approach' to the man, but after seeing him in 'The Truman Show' I was firmly convinced of his talent. Besides the film being so startlingly original (especially for Hollywood) I don't think I have seen such a well crafted movie(maybe besides the Shawshank Redemption, but hey, that's just me!). I would recommend this film to anyone, just be sure there aren't any hidden cameras nearby after you watch it, you just never know.
Rating: Summary: The Best Movie Ever Created! Review: 'The Truman Show,' is truly the best movie I have ever seen. I have only seen it twice, and cant wait to own it. (unfortunetly I need to wait 6 months or buy a DVD plyer). Anyway, no one would do justus to this film like Jim Carrey. He has acted in many movied before, but this is by far, his #1 best! If your in the mood for a great movie, rent the truman show today!
