Summary: Powerful Performance by Kidman
Review: While many reviews are positive and a few of them negative in this section, I found it to be a fantastic tale about women and the Craft. Yes, Bullock could give a better performance, but I don't think it is about her or Kidman. Instead, I challenge all of the people who have written negative reviews to examine EVERY DAY LIFE and then watch the movie. I found this a heart-warming tale about the "magical" instances in our childhood. As a child, I was told of curses, boogey stories, voodoo, magic and it was left for me to decide what to believe. Depending on the viewer's BELIEFS, the story could or could not happen. The thing that I ultimately think made the movie was the special effects and the composition of the scenes. The director (Dunne) utilized them in a way that they did not stand out. Rather, the effects were blended seemlessly into the film. To those doubters, watch it first, then again, noting the effects. Only after the second time, decide wheather you like it or not. Overall, I found the movie (DVD) captivating. I will be buying this on DVD very soon.

Summary: A yawn-fest
Review: This ranks as one of my least favorite films of all time. I have to admit, I'm not much of a Sandra Bullock fan. While I was entertained by her in Speed and While You Were Sleeping, I have found her mannerisms and acting EXTREMELY annoying in every movie since then. In fact, I find it hard to go back and watch Speed and WYWS now that I've seen her too many times.

Normally I'm a big Aidan Quinn fan, but it appeared to me that Quinn just wasn't buying the plot and ended up mailing in his performance.

Nicole Kidman was actually pretty good, but her performance isn't reason enough to rent this turkey.

But along with Bullock's annoying performance are some incredibly stupid, embarrassingly contrived and excruciatingly boring scenes.

I can't give a movie that I couldn't WAIT for it to end more than 1 star.

Summary: The Most Magical Movie Yet!
Review: This was the BEST movie I've ever seen. It's scary how the dead boyfriend comes back in his living girlfriend. I love this movie sooooo much I want to own it on video. I would recommend this movie to anyone that believe's in magic.

Summary: Fun Movie
Review: A good movie about witches trying to fit into mainstream society. What really makes this movie, though, are the supporting actors. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest steal the show as the eccentric aunts and Goran Visnjic plays a perfect villian.

Summary: Can't get any better than this!
Review: I original saw this movie back in November of '98 with my 5 year old daughter. We've watch it at least a million times since then. Never get sick of it! Another wonderful movie, with a good wrap on witches and the magick they pratice. Soundtrack is AWESOME! Actress are wonderful they make everything look natural. GET IT! You'll love it!

Summary: charming chick flick
Review: Practical Magic is, all puns aside, very charming; I'd have given it five stars if the whole movie maintained the feel of the first ten minutes or so. Sure, there was schmaltz and fluffy feel-good mediocrity aplenty, but in an enjoyable way; though I could have done without the obligatory adult-female-oriented, 30-second commercials for the Practical Magic Soundtrack [the Stevie Nicks song, however, I thought an amusing touch]. I also thought it explored interestingly the themes of women, magic, whimsy, spirituality, and sexuality, and the roles of outcastes and "normal" people.

Summary: cast a spell
Review: Practical Magic was much much better than I hoped. I was already a Sandra Bullock fan, but now I'll have to be a Nicole Kidman fan too. Both play their parts very well,in fact the entire cast wrap you up in their roles in this movie and you laugh when they do and cry when they do. Its more than a romantic date movie, its a place we've all been at least once in our lives. The soundtrack is also a keeper - you find yourself singing along quite often. The transfer and overall sound quality of this disc is very good. Although the DVD has a couple of extras, it seems to feel lightwieght.

Summary: Practically dreadful
Review: Two sister witches try adapting to life under family curse which ensures death for any man a given sister truly loves. Kidman's boyfriend (who she obviously must not have truly loved) turns out to be an abusive alcoholic who attacks her and Bullock when she rushes to her aid. Bullock accidently kills him and the two are desparate to dispose of the body. What builds itself nicely with some actual characters and plot goes for CASPER/THE FRIGHTENERS special effects to move it along and then relies on a BARNEY & FRIENDS style ending to tie the whole thing together. Only entertaining in the beginning. Take my advise and skip.
