Summary: You've Got Mail
Review: As far as I'm concerned, You've Got Mail deserves 2 different ratings: a rating for people who love sentimental re-hash pap, and a rating for people who like films that were not created with the sole intention of garnering money.
People who like sentimental pap, this movie is a 5 star classic.

People who partake in the latter, however, will find that this was made by a group of producers who besides planning to take over the world, made this movie to make money on the side. Of course you have seen Sleepless in Seattle, or you wouldn't be on Amazon.com looking at a review of the long-winded sequel. I call it a sequel because besides having different plot-lines, and other anti-subtlely placed superficial differences; the movies are the same.

I don't want to give away *spoilers*, because I bet you can't guess who wins the heart of Meg Ryan at the end. (Hint: He's on the cover and his name is Tom Hanks). That's NOT THE POINT. The point is how you get from point A to point B, point A being the begining, and point B being the honey sweetened ending.

And that journey which I briefly described is tumutulous, tripe, and lame. One good thing I actually can say about You've Got Mail, they certainly know yuppies as far as Hollywood sees them. They get Starbucks, walk dogs along their Park Ave. street, buy furniture from Ikea and Pottery Barn, partake in internet chats on AOL, and believe in true love.

Tom Hanks is pushing insanity, not to guarantee right off the bat that he hated the script, but look in his eyes, and without lying, tell me that he loved it. Meg Ryan acts a whole lot different than she did in Sleepless in Seattle, or in When Harry Met Sally. She is extremely over-reactive to everything. She walks across the room, and twirls. I'm not bashing her though, drinking 3 cups of espresso before rehearsal does take a toll that's quite cumbersome.

I like to describe the script within a parameter of 3 words. Here we go: Email Buddy Love. Ok. Then there is the sub-standard sub-plot about Meg Ryan owning a small bookstore and Tom Hanks owning the huge chain store that resides over it like a huge tower of destruction. Obviously the producers don't like discount stores, because they are posh to the max, but I found nothing wrong with this moral dilemma.

The end is lame. Not the romantic side of it, that ends up exactly how you know it will before you watch the movie, I'm talking about the sub-plot ending. You would think that maybe Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks would form a merger with their bookstores, or Meg Ryan would give in and go hardcore and sue Tom Hank's bookstore; but no. None of that. This thing was written by Nora Ephron.

I don't want to keep on ranting- hey, if you like trite romantic comedies to sit down on late nights watching; that's fine. It's a good movie for sheer entertainment, but it certainly was made as a money-horse for Warner Bros.

Summary: A good "Feel Good" movie.
Review: A "Feel Good" movie is a movie that you can watch on a rainy day and feel inside like the sun is fully out. It's a movie where it's not complicated but it flows with a simplicity that is to help relax the mind. And most of all, it's a movie that in the end makes you feel better about yourself and life in general. You've probably seen lots of "Feel Good" movies. Most Disney films are "Feel Good" movies. As are "Forrest Gump", "Working Girl", "Bridget Jones' Diary", "Sleepless in Seattle", and most of your Jane Austen adaptations. "You've Got Mail" definitely earns its spot as a "Feel Good" movie. The people you've grown to love come together to argue, compete in business, deal with impersonal relationships, deal with charming friends, then FINALLY get together in the last few minutes in an endearing moment that will (unless you are of the cynical or realistic nature) leave a smile on your face for the rest of the day. It's not the perfect rom-com (there really isn't any) but it is definitely charming. Recommended

Summary: Memories Are Made of This!
Review: Great movie. . .charming! Many smiles! My little French granddaughter, Naomi Roseanna, and I watched "You've Got Mail" together. Naomi is 7. There is a place in the movie where the shopgirl/owner, Kathleen Kelly/MegRyan, closes her children's book store door for the final time. Kathleen Kelly has lovely memories of growing up, going to work in that store with her mother and "twirling" in the back corner. In fact, there is a picture of her "twirling" with her mother on the wall. At the "close out sale" you might notice that picture of Kathleen and her mother twirling, and a sign pasted on the frame saying, "not for sale!"

When Kathleen closes the door of the "Shop Around the Corner" for this final time, now totally empty of books and chairs and pictures on the walls, she removes the large bell of brass from the door, turns off the lights; she takes a final look back and for a brief moment she "sees" that memory of her mother twirling her as a child. She hears the music. It is a most precious moment. It is enchanting.

I told Naomi Roseanna that she always needs to remember that part of the movie. Even though the store had to be closed, and even though a chain store put Kathleen out of business, and even though Kathleen had to leave this place she loved. . .no one, not ever in her life, could take away the memory. Memories are ours forever.

Summary: Better than Sleepless In Seattle!
Review: How could anyone not like "You've Got Mail"? This movie is great! It's funny, it's sad, it's heartbreaking, and it's romantic. When Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan get together to do a film together, they both give such phenominal performances. When these two forces come together, they have such a great chemistry. With Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks, the casting makes it a great film that the whole family can join because they both have such great talents even when they're not exactly with each other face to face in the film.

Starting up an internet friendship, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are unaware that they are confronting one another over the net, being that they are business rivals. When Hank's superstore book chain business causes Ryan's small book shop to close, there is much sadness knowing that the small book store contained precious memories in which Ryan's mother passed it down to her daughter. The other stars in the movie are great, featuring Jean Stapleton (Edith Bunker on the hit show "All In The Family"), along with Greg Kinnear and Parker Posey. While keeping their internet relationship strong, Hanks is able to confront Ryan knowing her identity, but Ryan and Hank's relationship declines when she finds out about his identity when she finds out that he owns the superstore book chain business that ran Ryan out of business. Emotions are running high and you will find yourself easily falling head-over-heels for this movie.

Review: A wonderful romantic comedy. Filled with witty lines and a terrific cast.

Summary: The ultimate feel-good movie
Review: If you look up the word "adorable" in the dictionary, you will see a picture of Meg Ryan. It's true; try it! She is so precious in this film that everyone will fall in love with her. She is the kind of girl that women want for their best friend and men drool over. Tom Hanks' photo can be found under the word "perfect," as in understanding, loving, mature, and funny. Put the two of them together and "You've Got Mail" is the ultimate feel-good movie.

Hanks plays the big, bad chain book store owner who moves into the neighborhood and drives poor little bookshop owner Ryan out of business. Neither realizes they are, in fact, the secret e-mail admirers they've been pouring their hearts out to for months. He finds out first, builds a solid friendship with her, and when she discovers the wonderful secret, all's right with the world.

Yes, it's corny and totally predictable. It's also about an hour too long, but one overlooks this when enjoying the sight of two such beautiful people finding true love. The gorgeous location photography helps set the fairy tale mood; New York City never looked lovelier. The city takes on a cozy, small-town feel, where it seems perfectly possible for two strangers to meet and fall in love. The lovely soundtrack, made up of soft rock and bittersweet ballads, adds to the romance.

I recommend this film as a romantic date movie or a girls-night-out flick. It's silly and wonderful, and Meg and Tom are so right together.

Summary: Worth Watching!
Review: The story is classic Meg Ryan and the pairing up with Tom Hanks is even better than in Sleepless in Seattle.
There are a couple of parts in the movie that move a little slow, but the end makes it definitely worth while. This is one of the better movies I've seen.
If you like Meg Ryan and haven't seen this movie, you are certainly missing out!

Summary: I love this movie
Review: How could anyone say movies like "You've got mail" are old and no longer necessary. This is a wonderful movie, a wonderful love story. I watch it every time it comes on TV and even bought the DVD so I would have it for a long time. This is my favorite Tom Hanks movie.
