Summary: "I can guess the subject of your reverie..."
Review: If I could but give this book all of the stars I've seen since I've read it - five is not enough! The A&E presentation of this book follows the book very closely. Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were excellent -- incidentally, I'd really like to meet these actors one day... and learn how making this movie affected them. The costumes and the music, the settings and scenery! I just want to go to Pemberley! And after seeing it, I read the book, and then I bought the book, and then I watched the movie two more times! I've been in such a reverie ever since... "I have been meditating on the very great pleasure which a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty woman can bestow." Colin Firth is the epitome of Darcy. I love skipping to the best parts - the encounters between Darcy and Elizabeth, seeing the transformation of the two each in their own ways... two spectacular human beings such as these had some work to do! But why did I love it so much? I suppose it's because I see myself in each of the characters, because every time I read it I learn to have compassion on the frailty of human nature, because from my heart I admire how two such powerful people can see beyond themselves to a deeper happiness, a deeper understanding. What strikes me is that Jane Austen didn't write about impossible things - she wrote about what she knew best, from her observations and experiences. Her words teach me to hope. How incredibly beautiful and breathtaking!! Thank you, Jane Austen!!! Your talents are your gift to us! END

Summary: Best adaptation ever! Superb!
Review: If you don't think a movie can do justice to a great book, you haven't seen Pride and Prejudice. The cast is terrific: Colin Firth is the perfect Mr. Darcy -- now I can't see him in any movie that I don't think of Darcy (I was enraged watching "The English Patient" because his wife was betraying him!!!); Jennifer Ehle is witty, pretty (not more than Jane), and elegant (as I'd always pictured Lizzy). They even *look like* those on the cover of the Pride and Prejudice book I have! The adaptation is wonderful, some parts are even verbatim (I *have* watched it with the book in hand!). You don't even feel the 5 hours go by! One of my favorite movies, adapted from one of my favorite novels -- what more can I ask for? END

Summary: Wonderful!!!!!!!!
Review: A&E has done a magnificent job in making Jane Austin's best novel into a wonderful presentation. I never tire of watching it over and over and over again. The casting is just superb! A must see! END

Summary: Jane Austin at her BEST!
Review: Difficult to start, but once you get past the opening formalties you are transported beyond modern times for a wonderful, and emotional, ride through Georgian England. Lizzy Bennet is the perfect heroine. She is beautiful, witty and clever. Her only fault is her predjudice against the first impression of Mr. Darcy, our dashing and misunderstood hero whose pride entices him to behave with such "ungentlemanlike behavior". Lizzy's silly sisters and mother provide endless problems and humor, and the character of poor Mr. Bennet is priceless. I rate this book a 10 of 10 and highly recommend it for anyone seeking a bit of well deserved hyper-romanticism and escapism from our not so very romantic present. END

Summary: The most amazing movie I've ever seen!
Review: If you like the classic romance this is the prefect movie for you. From the first time I saw it I was hooked! Now I wait again and again for it to come on. For all you hopeless romantics out there, this is the ultimate movie! END

Summary: This beautiful story will make your TV proud.
Review: If you ever considered selling your television, and cutting off the world of mass-media--DON'T do it before you watch this story. The A&E producers did a wonderful job of adapting one of history's best English novels and bringing it into our modern homes. I recommend this for anyone interested in looking at something worthwhile during prime-time. P.S. It is even better if you read the book. END

Summary: The best heartfelt romantic book I've ever read.
Review: The most romantic book I've ever read. Darcy is this beautiful person with this so very sophisticated ,romantic and apealing character.Elizabeth is this intelectual beauty, slightly hot tempered with a lovely sense of humor ,but it was Darcy that Ireally fell in love with. He has the makings of a gentleman which you will not find these days. And if you do it is very occasionally. END

Summary: FABULOUS!
Review: Take the time and enjoy the adventure of courtship so far removed from the reality of today. You must read the novel and see the series to do either justice. Let your immagination wander throught the grand estates, gardens and country side of early England. Cheer for Lizzy and Darcy's future happiness at Pemberly. END

Summary: If you like to read love stories, don't miss out this book!
Review: Pride and Prejudice was a very romantic story. It was about the love of two people who have different status in the English society. Mr. Darcy, an aristocracy, fall in love with a middle class young lady, Elizabeth Bennet. When the first met at the ball, she had a very bad impression on him. She thought he was a conceited person. On the other hand, Darcy love her but he didn't have the gut to tell her. He secretly helped Elizabeth through everything such as family problems, the marriage for sister, Lydia, and helped her oldest sister Jane get together with Mr. Bingley, Darcy's best friend. This story has a very happy ending. I really enjoy reading it. I would definitely recommend this book for everyone and hope you enjoy it like I do. END

Summary: Colour problems easily resolved.
Review: For those who have difficulty with colour, the solution is to go to videolan.org, and download their latest VLC (the current one is 0.7.2). It shows brilliantly on the DVDrom on the computer, and is far less grainy than a widescreen TV. Put your brightness and contrast both on 100%.

This is one classic that no-one can afford to leave off their shelves. Colin Firth is the Sir Lawrence Olivier of today, and is one of the few actors today who can portray a range of emotions by seemingly doing nothing... through the eyes, body language, slight mouth movements... Anyone involved in serious drama should possess this DVD, and the book "The making of Pride and Prejudice." The insights gained in this make every moment worthwhile, and the book enhances a persons perception, not only of the problems making such a period piece as this, but also the reasons as to why Colin Firth made Darcy his own.

This film also lays the foundation for his more recent performances. Without seeing this, Bridget Jones Diary (and probably the upcoming sequel, the edge of reason - and flot says there will be a third...) are slightly adrift in terms of understanding the "feel".

If I could give this 10 stars, I would. I do agree that the picture quality, even on the computer, can be lacking, but that is nothing compared to what you will learn, not just in terms of a production, but also in terms of elegance of language, long since lost in the "grunt culture" of today.
